I’d go with overflowing toilet. Same strategy as when he occupied the White House - keep saying and doing crazy stuff so everyone is so overwhelmed no one knows what to focus on. Hopefully, these legal teams for these indictments stay focused.
It is amazing, and telling, that Trump’s legal issues are so convoluted that even the mods here have a hard time sorting what should be where. Seems Trump Strategy-101 to consistently confuse and delay legal problems.
He has something like 94 legal counts against him and he’s still living the good life. Pretty sure I’d not fare as well with even one legal count against me. Different rules for different people.
Don’t forget that there is one, and only one thing which matters much more than anything in this list:
It matters ONLY that all 12 jurors agree on what matters.
It only takes one Maga cultist to make a hung jury, and Trump will walk away a free man.
We smart folks can discuss the minutiae of legal definitions, and convince ourselves that the facts leave Trump with no way to defend himself. But all our discussions and facts are irrelevant. There are only 12 people who count, and none of them are reading this thread.
It’s too soon to start celebrating
I really think the threat of “lying MAGA cultist on the jury” is way overblown.
In addition to all the tools they have for identifying these people……well, I know that if I had to sit in a courtroom for 4-8 hours a day for weeks and listen to MAGA propaganda being presented as fact while 11 of my peers nodded in agreement, I wouldn’t be able to nod and bite my tongue and pretend to agree. I would actually find it intolerable, like watching Fox News every day.
I imagine any MAGA plant would feel the same way, and they aren’t known for self-discipline. I think the chances are very slim that a MAGA cultist would not only make it on the jury but make it through the trial without being found out.
Also, there have been lots of Trump adjacent cases that made it to a jury trial, and I think the juries got it right every single time.
That said, lately I feel a little bit like the dog that caught the car sometimes.
#1: A MAGA person was in the NYC civil lawsuit case against Trump, where he was accused of defamation, and agreed with 11 other jurors that Trump was liable and owed damages.
#2: A hung jury does not make Trump a free man. It just means they need a new trial. It’s possible that the prosecution might drop the case, but they don’t have to.
All of this speculation is based on a misunderstanding of facts and unreasonable pessimism.
Do not ever, ever alter the quote(s) of another poster within the quote box. This is a strict rule on the SDMB. You can make your modifications below the actual quote if you wish, but not within the quote box quoting another poster. You will suffer a warning if you do this again.
In my experience, if the verdict is close, say 11-1 or even 10-2 in favor of conviction, most prosecutors will opt to retry. And they’ll want to do it quickly.
Peter Navarro’s contempt of Congress case is proceeding apace. The judge says that Navarro has not shown thatTrump exerted executive privilege. His trial is Sept 5th.
