It appears that he makes a habit of “going postal” with ketchup, so…
I had not thought of this when I, last year, predicted prosecuting Trump will lead to Democrats being similarly, even if unfairly, arrested. Donald is making it all sound good.
Restraining the imperial presidency would be a plus. If Biden is more careful to obey the Presidential Records Act, and, more important, the War Powers Act, for the remainder of his presidency, however long, what’s wrong with that?
(Quoting the motion, not @rocking_chair)
And yet, somehow 44 prior presidents managed to skate by without ever having to crawl to the SCOTUS begging for immunity for their actions while in office.
Of course, none of them were brave enough to take on the Deep State. /s
Their actions while carrying out their proper duties need to be protected; and that’s what immunity is for.
Inciting and/or supporting an insurrection isn’t in any way part of POTUS’ proper duties, and should not come under presidential immunity.
If the duties of the President cause him to violate criminal laws, there is either something wrong with what we are asking the President to do, or with the criminal laws, or both. I can see situations where official duties could result in civil liability which probably should be protected, but criminal law should apply to everybody, or nobody.
Right. Obviously the President cant be sued, that would be a nitemare.
I posted this in the “how is Trump a viable candidate?” thread:
There’s an article in this month’s Harper’s Magazine about the overlap between 1960s-70-80s hippie woo/spiritual seeking (Ram Dass, Shirley MacLaine, etc.) and 21st-century MAGA Trumpism. This overlap is embodied in Jacob Angeli-Chansley, the January 6 “Q Anon Shaman,” who served over two years in prison. (The author traces these threads to Carl Jung).
If you haven’t used up your two free articles this month, here you go:
Interesting. It’s actually also between the overlap of woo/spiritual seeking and actual science in some of the same people – a number of very skilled scientists also have gone in for woo (though no, the article isn’t trying to claim that Angeli-Chansley is one of them.)
Which I suppose isn’t as surprising as it seems at first glance, because humans appear to come with brains that are built to keep trying to explain the universe, but which aren’t equipped to do so. The ability to explain some bit or aspect better than most may also come with a really strong drive to do such things – but not necessarily with any particularly good ability to apply it to anything outside of that bit or aspect.
Hmm.
Is not Angeli-Chansley the same guy who demanded a vegan diet in prison?
One of those words is not very vegan, though I will give him credit, it sounds quite delicious. He, on the other side sounds quite delirious.
ETA: I was wrong, not vegan, just organic.
My second point stands, that was a bewildering insight into someone who can only be insane.
I sure hope you’re right. But as unlikely as it seems (and we live in an era when unlikely things happen all the time), God help us, if he loses he just might run again in 2028.
Yes, I’ve been having thoughts that if T loses this year, the only thing that will change is that he’ll have two elections to claim he was robbed of.
That and being robbed of his actual fortune.
True. But that’s four more years for his court cases to progress – somewhat increasing the chances that he actually lands in jail, and significantly increasing the chances that his finances will get further screwed; plus, it’s four more years during which his health may get him, one way or another.
And he’ll be 81 years old. We all know what he thinks about 81-year-olds running for President.
Oh, but that won’t apply to him!
Nothing he accuses other people of is supposed to apply to him. (Especially when it does.)
Ah sweet summer child, you expect consistency from DJT?
Naw, he will either be dead or totally senile by 2028. Not to mention with several felony convictions, and dead broke.
I believe that prisons can accommodate reasonable dietary requirements, including vegetarian, vegan, kosher, gluten-free, etc. But Q-Shaman demanded organic vegan, which was unreasonable.
And the MAGAts will still vote for him.
I’da given him all the inorganic vegan food he could eat, 'cause I’m reasonable!
So a reverse of Daley’s Chicago, then. Instead of dead people voting for live politicians we’ll have live people voting for dead politicians.
