This sounds very much like he’s sorry for the consequences of his actions to himself, not that he’s acknowledging that he was misguided and that his actions were traitorous.
We need to come down especially hard with the full force of the law on anyone in the military or law enforcement who participates in or colludes with illegal violent acts of any kind, and most especially sedition and insurrection. In a civilized society, the state has a monopoly on violence, and the agents to whom the state grants license to enforce the law and the security of the people are in a position of immense power and privilege. It’s appropriate to hold them to a higher standard of duty.
We may go through some tough times, but I think the only way we are ultimately at risk of failure as a nation is with the collusion of the military.
Mo Brooks has released a 2800 word statement claiming he wasn’t involved in planning a riot. I will post the link shortly but before you click on it, I want you to remember that this statement was, presumably, written and approved by actual adults, for whom English is a first language, and who presumably have mostly received post-secondary educations.
Pence may have ambitions beyond this year but even if he doesn’t, he seems done with Trump and McConnell’s politics and his approach are more aligned with Pence’s. I also can’t help but think that Republicans with a brain are genuinely fearful of Trump and what he might do next. They’re just waiting for the shit storm to pass, hoping it will pass but cautious at the same time. Trump’s popularity has declined considerably this last week or two, but they also know that ex-presidents almost always become more popular once they’re gone.
This morning I briefly saw a mention that a representative claimed she saw reconnaissance tours being led through the Capitol on Jan 5th. I can’t recall whether I saw this on TV or online, or who the representative is, and I don’t see any current headlines about it so I apologize for no link. But, if true, this would explain how the raiders found Pelosi’s office so easily.
Could Oregon just carve off some of the Eastern counties and give them to Idaho or something? I mean, meth consumption might go down, but other than that…
For a lot of Republicans who’ve been at this game a long time, they really don’t have any idea how to handle Trump. He’s like the wayward old ‘buddy’ who needed a place to crash for a month and is now living rent free, refusing to leave, drinking all their beer, fucking their wives, and laughing at threats of eviction.
You don’t need an insider tour to find these offices. There are maps of the Capitol interior available all over the internet, including on Wikipedia. Finding out where the House Speaker’s rooms are in the building, as well as the location of Pelosi’s Congressional office in the Longworth Building, is pretty straightforward.
I couldn’t get through that whole thing, but I didn’t see mention of this accusation. He seems to have gone to the trouble of refuting accusations except this one.
Mo Brooks was one of the lawmakers that the ‘Stop the Steal’ organizer claimed helped them plan the insurrection.
