7 Jan 2021 and beyond - the aftermath of the storming of the Capitol

They should impeach him before inauguration day and hold the trial afterwards. As Mitch McConnell might say, nothing in the constitution prohibits an impeachment trial after the person has left office. Give the new Senate plenty of time to investigate, hold hearings, and get witness testimony. The penalties following impeachment can include a bar on holding federal office so the proceedings would not be moot. Trump could be forced to testify. He could not use his pardon power to protect people who would lie on his behalf. He could be jailed for his own lies.

Agreed, but how to get them to do it.

I’ve watched my family over the last few years go from people with whom I had mild disagreements over tax policy and immigration issues to people who rabidly insist on a completely alternative reality to the one that we actually live in.

I don’t know if there is coming back from that. The first step is to admit that you have a problem, and that means acknowledging that they are wrong, and that is what they have been so thoroughly coached to never do.

I have no idea if it is the case, but I honestly cannot imagine that twitter doesn’t have him on a 5 minute delay to vet and pre-approve his tweets.

If nothing else, it force the senators to take sides. It lets us see who is in favor of insurrection.

Then he’ll call into Fox and Friends, or Hannity.

You reap what you sow, Lindsey. And now you shall reap the whirlwind.

Mindy Robinson :us: on Twitter: “Lindsey Graham just made the mistake walking by me and a mass of angry patriots at the airport in DC. All America wants is for you to AUDIT OUR VOTE and purge this election of this massive corruption…and you won’t do it. We’re not letting this “slide” so expect more of this. https://t.co/pbemr2Gcr9” / Twitter

I think that even they won’t give him a live platform.

If they take the call at all, it will be on a delay. Hannity can cry all he wants, but Fox’s lawyers cannot be stupid enough to be part of supporting an insurrection. If they air him at all, it will be pre-taped or on a substantial delay, with lawyers ready with a censor button.

Sweet! That one made my day, I’m out of here.

We’ll see.

Remember how Fox was pretty good for a couple of days after Trump gave his first press conference claiming election fraud without evidence? That only lasted 2-3 days, then they slowly slipped right into promoting the election fraud narrative.

They were appropriately horrified Wednesday at the endgame to their bullshit, not quite so much yesterday and even less so today… By next week I think they’ll mostly be crying about poor persecuted Trump and his fine upstanding misunderstood followers. And Antifa. Their narrative is slipping

Wednesday late afternoon Geraldo, playing the Dem, wanted Trump impeached and removed for inciting the riot. Yesterday, he still thinks Trump incited the riot but he thinks removing him would be going too far.

Mike Huckabee reluctantly agrees that maybe Trump could’ve chosen his words better, but blames the violence on the Democrats that wouldn’t let his daughter eat in their restaurant.

They’ll take Trump’s call next week.

Here’s what boggles my mind.

As we know, the target of this insurrection was Congress. Amid the sound of gunfire, their debate was cut short and they had to flee to a secure area. They had to shelter in place for hours, some of them in rooms with makeshift barricades against the doors. From their smartphones they knew that a pro-Trump mob had stormed the building. They knew that the president’s false allegations had led to this moment.

Finally, the Capitol was once again secure, and the House and Senate were able to vote on certifying the election. Having personally been threatened with bodily harm, 139 Republican representatives (two-thirds of the Republicans in the House) and eight Republican senators still sided with the insurrectionists and voted to overturn the election.

This fever is not going to break.

Maybe, if they are stupid enough to want to be accomplices in another attempted insurrection.

I dunno, I don’t put it past the hosts to want to, but as I said, their lawyers are probably not nearly as dumb.

We’ll see. You could be right, and that would be fine, as it would be a good reason to prosecute Fox and sue them into oblivion.

The comments on that tweet are pretty amusing.

It’s full of right wingers calling him a traitor and worse.

I can’t feel sorry for him, he knew what he was signing up for.

Hahahaha. “Here’s your mail, and here’s you summons”

I think they should swear in Newman from Seinfeld.

I was just thinking about this again. Your rendition made me think of it in a different way. Maybe that’s why they did it. Maybe they were so afraid for their lives, they thought that if they turned on Trump’s supporters, they might be literally dead. They might have realized how illogical Trump’s supporters have become and how they might be the next target if they do anything to piss them off.

Maybe that’s a stretch. It was probably the money angle. They’re getting donations from the Trumpsters. But the corporate CEOs have been defunding them, so I don’t think that’s a good trade.

Hi Ms Hedonia. I just wanted to say that you’ve been putting up a lot of very fine posts over the last few months.

Wait, why didn’t anyone do this before? Like 4 years ago. Also, catchy title.

Pelosi wants to strip the nuclear codes from Trump.

I didn’t know this was even possible/legal.

Remember back in early 2018 when Senator Al Franken (D-MN) resigned amid widespread Democratic/liberal criticism of his sexually inappropriate conduct described in several “Me Too” accusations?

That’s what it looks like when reasonably rational and principled people “turn on one of their own” who’s perceived as letting them down. Establish a sensible rule, such as “don’t nonconsensually creep on people”, and if one of your own allies turns out to have violated that rule, condemn them and dump them. Handled like grownups.

What Graham’s got himself into, on the other hand, is more of a psychotic folie à deux that one partner’s trying to disengage from and the other partner won’t stand for it. He sweet-talked the Trump supporters with encouragement of their delusional fantasies of a “stolen election” that never actually happened, and they got so worked up about it they acted out violently, and now the situation is scaring him and he’s tentatively attempting to pull back and they’re all “Oh no, you son of a bitch, you can’t just walk out on me!”.

I’m sorry on some level for anyone who’s incurred the enmity of a violent delusional mob, but he absolutely made his own bed here.

To be completely accurate, he was part of the crowd in Trump’s bed.

Unsee! Unsee!
