7 Jan 2021 and beyond - the aftermath of the storming of the Capitol

Yes. And they even got together and discussed with parents how best to do that! What an odd thing to do!

I will be overjoyed if he gets convicted of conspiracy and sedition.

Or seditious conspiracy! It’s two… two… two felony charges in one!

“The FBI easily tracked down Chansley … due to his distinctive tattoos on his arms and chest, his red, white, and blue face paint, and his furry hat that had horns on it.”

OK, well, he’s apologized. Why is he still in prison? He SAID he was SORRY! If he doesn’t get let out tonight, he’s going to have his mommy do another press release discussing how unfair this whole things is.

He was mislead and he’s sorry. And the organic food he’s being fed isn’t cooked properly.

If calls to string up Pence were peaceful, I’d hate to see what he considers “violent”.

According to Open Secrets, Trump’s campaign paid more than $3.5M in payments to Jan. 6 organizers.

At point does RICO come into play? (RICO is a federal statute written to fight criminal organizations where it’s difficult to pin a crime on a specific individual.) Trump’s pyramid of shell companies and payments through them sure seem to be vulnerable.

As to RICO… heheheheh.

Wow, that method of concealing who the payments went to – if it isn’t illegal, it should be.

From that article:

And the ones who just go back to their oval office to watch it all on tv.

This is an insightful post.

Did this get brought up at the trial?
(Wait. . . I’ll go read the Trump Impeachment II Thread, all 126 posts of catching-up I need to do now, and see if it’s mentioned there . . . )

I am 49 years old and have been hearing stuff like this MY ENTIRE LIFE. None of these Republicans should ever have won elections, because people were saying in 1992 that conservatives were all old and were dying off.

Yeah, I agree. I think it’s pretty typical that people are generally more liberal when they’re younger and turn conservative when they get older. That has certainly happened with Gen X.

Anyone who said that wasn’t paying attention to demographics. Yes, old people die, but then middle aged people become old people. You have to look at the size of the generation that’s in old age. In particular, the biggest generation ever (yes, the Baby Boom) has only now gotten into that age range (57-75), so that’s why it hasn’t happen yet. Once the BB dies off in significant numbers (which should be in about 10 to 15 years), then you’ll see what they predicted happen.

This is a myth. Lots of studies have looked at the question and largely debunked this as a generalization.

I’m Gen X. By comparison to earlier generations, we might have been more liberal in a relative sense, but we still freely told terribly offensive racial and gender-role jokes, among other behavior that doesn’t fly now. Go back and look at early 80s comedies for a (pretty gross) reference point.

What happens is that society evolves. It’s not that my generation became more conservative over time, it’s that what we used to think was acceptable behavior has aged out. The context has changed, and social drift has left us behind. In response, my generational compatriots may have hardened their beliefs and behaviors, which makes them seem like generic obstinate right-wing dickheads. And, again, in a relative sense, that may in fact be accurate.

But it’s not that they started out on the left side of the line and then slid slowly to the right, for the most part. Instead, the line has been slowly shifting under them.

You’re wrong. See cervaise’s post above, it’s a nice job of explaining the reality of it.
