7 Jan 2021 and beyond - the aftermath of the storming of the Capitol

I think it’s been addressed before, but many of the protesters were charged with criminal trespassing, which isn’t as easy to prove as it would seem. With regard to the Oath Keeper suspect, they want leverage against the most serious offenders. He is part of the organization at the center of the most serious charges. If there’s evidence of sedition, insurrection, or other violent crimes, he would probably have direct knowledge. He could testify as to the intent of future defendants.

Geophysicist on the one hand, cfsg follower on the other. Would be nice if Oliver Sacks was around to study this guy.

cfsg? = am I being dumb?

Bizarre aside - I googled it: CFSG = Cycle de Formation Spécialisée en Géostatistique (Specialized Training Cycle in Geostatistics). But I assume that’s a different cfsg.

Missed the edit - OK, I found it, Cheeto Faced…

j

??? Now I’m lost. How do those letters represent Cheeto Faced?

I was hoping someone was going to answer you.

First, thanks, because I thought it was just me. Second, I was being a bit dumb - I’ve seen the phrase numerous times before, just not as an acronym (which threw me); the last two words being…)

… Shit Gibbon.

I believe he was once a prominent public figure.

j

Thanks. I don’t remember seeing that phrase before. Certainly didn’t know it was a thing.

Sigh, nothing we like better here than trotting out obscure acronyms… 99% of the usage of cfsg is right here, almost always with NO explanation.

“The Dope: Come for the facts, stay til we make you feel stupid.”

Must… resist… suggesting… adding apostrophe… before… “til”…

Variously explained as “Cheeto-Faced Shit Gibbon”, or, “Crap-Flinging Shit Gibbon”.

(Although, to be sure, I saw a news item recently saying that he’s abandoned the alien Orange-face schtick. Offensive to Oranges, y’know, as if he cares about that.)

Nah. Simply too much trouble keeping up such appearances while his access to adoring throngs is virtually nil.

“The Dope: Come for the facts, stay til we make you feel stupid.”

VERY well played. Ne’er before have I enjoyed feeling stupid!

Full marks for irony: I just retired from teaching design, including †¥p0, a typography class…where I was quite the 'Postrophe Nazi.

Until , till , and 'til are all used in modern English to denote when something will happen. Until and till are both standard, but what might be surprising is that till is the older word. 'Til , with one L , is an informal and poetic shortening of until . The form 'till , with an additional L , is rarely if ever used today.

All this time I’d been thinking that “till” was only a cash drawer.

It ends not with a bang, but a whimper.

Honestly a bipartisan commission was a terrible idea when one of the parties on the commission were enablers/coconspirators of the insurrection. This should all be handled as a criminal matter and whatever comes out about the R side should be publicized. Bipartisanship meant these people would be investigating themselves.

Or, as the right put it, “liberal indoctrination”.

Instead of a bipartisan commission, it could be a non-partisan commission. Like the Warren Commission.

That’s what I was wondering. Contentious inquiries like this get put into the hands of a senior judge over here, on the assumption that they’re non-partisan, and good at sifting and weighing evidence. Parliamentary committee inquiries do happen but though they are good at throwing their weight about they tend to generate more heat than light.

Given the enduring controversy over the Warren Commission’s findings, on an issue that was not in the least considered partisan at the time, that is perhaps not the most encouraging precedent.

Just released

He. Wasn’t beaten to death or bear sprayed. The stress might have contributed, but not included in the ME account.
