7 Jan 2021 and beyond - the aftermath of the storming of the Capitol

Also, he still has his lips firmly planted on Agent Orange’s ass. Check out the last paragraph of this article, which I quoted below:

On Thursday, Pence, widely viewed as a potential 2024 Republican candidate for president, was careful to show no animosity toward Trump, even eliciting applause as he compared the former president favorably to Ronald Reagan.

“President Donald Trump is also one of a kind. He, too, disrupted the status quo. He challenged the establishment. He invigorated our movement. And he set a bold new course for America in the 21st century,” Pence said at the Reagan Library. “And now, as then, there is no going back.”

A quote from romansperson’s post, not romansperson:

Well, that’s true, but not in the way I think he meant.

As a House Select Committee, it would be composed of sitting members of the House of Representatives. The proposed January 6 Commission that would have been created through the legislation filibustered by Senate Republicans would have allowed for the appointment of members from outside of Congress.

The details regarding this select committee will be part of the resolution the House will adopt creating the committee. Some of the key questions will be what is the specific investigatory scope of the committee, what is the partisan ratio of the committee, will it have subpoena power and if so how will subpoenas be approved, and what timeframe are they given to complete their work.

Thank you.

After crying and expressing remorse in court and only getting probation, community service and a fine, Anna Morgan-Lloyd appears on Fox News aiding their “what insurrection?” narrative. She’s emphasizing that she can only speak to what she saw from her position, but if it’s not in her probation conditions to stay the fuck off Fox News, it should be in any future ones.

Was that segment pre-recorded?

Two- Moscow Mitch and whatshisname.

There’s an interesting article in Politico this morning regarding the internal House Republican politics over whether (and whom) to appoint to the House Select Committee on the January 6 insurrection. Kevin McCarthy still hasn’t said if he’d appoint members as Minority Leader, although he already has volunteers in Marjorie Taylor Greene, Matt Gaetz and Lauren Boebert.

Interestingly, the article seems to suggest that Adam Kitzinger and Liz Cheney may agree to serve on the committee even if McCarthy declines to appoint any Republicans. There’s no rule against the Speaker appointing Republican members against the Minority Leader’s wishes, but it would be a pretty public break with the caucus on their parts. Maybe they both figure they’re toast in their next primaries and want to do some good with the time they have left.

Bless 'em if they do.

Kinzinger became a very vocal Never Trumper around the time His Orangeness started the “stolen election” bullshit; after the insurrection, Kinzinger started his own PAC to attract rational Republicans. I don’t think he has anything to worry about.

#2!

THEY LITERALLY MADE SHIRTS.

ETA: Tbf those are highly unlikely to be the same people. But let’s not pretend that the attack was all a spur of the moment thing.

Good news:

And bad:

Kinzinger says he doesn’t give a shit about McCarthy’s threats:

Rep. Adam Kinzinger knows GOP leaders wanted to scare him away from serving on the Democrat-led panel investigating the Capitol riot. And he doesn’t care one bit.

Why the hell is he even a Republican, though? I think the only way for Republicans with a conscience to beat back the neo-confederates is to help Democrats destroy their party, and they don’t do that by staying in the party. With renewed gerrymandering capabilities, Kinzinger’s going to be driven out of office by his own party anyway, as will Cheney, though redistricting won’t be a factor in her case.

Kinzinger’s a cult survivor. He was raised in a fundamentalist group and cut ties with them as an adult. I’m pretty sure this informs his attitude towards Trumpism.

Kinzinger supported Trump and the vast majority of his policies. Until that “stolen election” bullshit.

He’s now a Lincoln Project Republican, intent on wresting the party away from Empty Greene and the marching morons.

I don’t know about that. As I mentioned above, he has his own PAC now.

He and his family are members of The Calvary Baptist Church. Not really what I would call a cult.

Not the church he belongs to now, but the church he grew up in.

I have read elsewhere that it’s an IFB (Independent Fundamentalist Baptist) church, which many people, including myself, consider a cult.

Here’s an article where he talks about his relationship with his family. I don’t think he’s ever directly referred to the group as a cult, but in this article he talks about his family “experiencing brainwashing by conservative churches that misled them”.

The “brainwashing” he talks about was a recent occurrence. It all stems from his stance on the the first impeachment. His family believes he’s crossed over to the devil’s army because of his disloyalty to the ex Prez. While this is certainly an extreme view, imho, it’s one that is shared by alot of the country.

As to the cult thing. As far as I know he has always been a Calvary Baptist. His father was even the leader of a Baptist ministry: the Home Sweet Home ministry.

Eta: Kinzinger and his wife are currently members of The Village Christian Church in Minooka, IL
