"It is further Ordered that [Mr. Giuliani] is commanded to desist and refrain from the practice of law in any form…and respondent is forbidden to give another an opinion as to the law or its application or advice in relation thereto. "
So, what if he does comment on FOX or another channel about legal issues? Would that be contempt of court or impersonating a lawyer?
She said the committee would investigate the root causes of the attack, including white supremacist and extremist groups, and also Capitol security failures.
“Most of us had our hearts set on an independent bipartisan commission similar to the 9/11 Commission,” Representative Jamie Raskin, Democrat of Maryland and a member of Ms. Pelosi’s leadership team, said. “We just ran into a brick wall of G.O.P. opposition. They apparently see no political mileage in undertaking any inquiry.”
Personally, I’m with Nancy that a bi-partisan commission like the 9/11 commission would have been better. But certainly while the GOP has their fingers in their ears up to their wrists, this is the next best option.
There are still some respected GOP elders out there who never drank the Trump Kool-Aid who could be, and I think ought to be, appointed to such a commission, to emphasize its nonpartisan nature and to keep it from just being instantly shrugged off as a Democratic witchhunt - but none of them are now in the House.
I can’t stand the guy or his politics, but I do admire his standing up for the practice of democracy. You’d think that was a low bar, but an awful lot of the elected Republicans apparently can’t clear it.
Mikey, you’re over five months late in rejecting the concept behind the insurrection. Don’t expect me to give you credit for saying things that could have made a difference in January.
Yep. And Kevin McCarthy gets to decide if and which Republican House members serve on the committee, and you can bet he’s not going to be appointing Liz Cheney or John Katko (who negotiated the original bill for a Jan 6 commission before McCarthy stabbed him in the back). IF Republicans play ball, it’ll probably be Jim Jordan leading the circus.
If these yahoos had been met with hot lead the instant they breached the outer barrier, I would not have shed a tear. But charging them all with capital crimes after the fact would IMO not only look overzealous, but even worse would likely result in a lot of “not guilty” verdicts and cries of “Exonerated!”
