The other day I was expertly avoiding work by browsing google videos.
I came across the 911 coverup video and was hooked. Much if it is shaky and much of it seems plausible. The idea that the towers were rigged with explosives seems most implausible and I have not chosen to believe the whole thing but none the less I found it interesting.
I wondered what the SDMB consensus is/was when this video and this theory were first published.
P.S. I don’t mean to dredge up old issues or anything and I know this is not current events stuff but I am simply curious what was said here.
We’ve discussed this video, and related 9/11 tinfoil-hattery, quite extensively; you’ll no doubt be shocked to learn that the consensus is that these [del]theories[/del] [del]hypotheses[/del] [del]wild-ass guesses[/del] babblings are in fact pure bullshit.
For some dumb reason (I blame the lack of caffeine this morning) I thought this thread would be something like: “What if the government tried to cover up the 9/11 attacks?” You know, like in some weird Total Information Control sort of way they managed to obscure the thousands dead and suddenly different NYC skyline and differeent parking around the Pentagon.
But this kind of logic can only lead to a new sit-com, which we really really do not need…
From now one when someone opens a thread about 9/11 it should be SOP to paste in every link you’ve given. Then we tell them to read each one before we will continue debunking.
It’s frustrating to spend 10 pages debunking this crap, then a month later somebody comes in and says, “Boy, this was interesting. It seemed plausible to me! Anyway, I just wondered if anyone else had seen this move!”
It’s not worth explaining why the movie is wrong to such a person, because they aren’t interested in learning. They saw it on the internet, so there must be some truth to it…
That’s putting it more than a bit harshly, Lemur. All of us have certain ammounts of ignorance, it’s inevitable. Nobody can have a substantial level of working knowledge in every field of human endevour, let alone expertise.
I’m sure that a great many people are ‘interested in learning’, and once they see something that makes claims that they can’t easily debunk or confirm, they come to the Dope for more information. It doesn’t matter if they saw a cheesy video on the 'net, or an infotainment product on mainstream teevee. They still came here to learn more. And, that’s to be applauded in my book, and not scorned.
CurtC’s website is an excellent debunk of all of LC’s garbage. But if you truly want to know all you need to about LC, read the forums that support them!
Hey, haven’t you seen Men in Black?
Now, a post about a “coverup” of the Bush Administrations inaction before 9/11 might be interesting. I’ve avoided the conspiracy threads, but my impression is that even devout Bush haters sneer at these conspiracy theories. That should be enough evidence for anyone.
