This is a topic taken from the list of MMP topics gt has so thoughtfully put together. Actually she probably did that while procrastinatin’ over doin’ sump’n she should have been doin’ but I don’t judge.
See, I have this bowl full of paper clips on my desk at home. The bowl, btw, is one of MOOOOOOM’s ceramic creations. ‘Tis a loverly deep blue color just perfect for holdin’ the bowl full of multi-colored paperclips. They are red, green, blue, purple, orange, white… a rainbow of paper clips even! They have been here forever. I don’t know how many there are cause, well, I ain’t countin’ em. I use maybe a half dozen in a year’s time. Some get used for a while then go back in the bowl. Will I ever find use for them all? Will I have paper clips to bequeath to those I leave behind when I shuffle off this mortal coil? Should I specify who gets 'em in my will?
So there ya are. Hijack away!
Oh and 'tis 77 degrees Amurrkin out with a predicted high of 97 and a sixty percent chance of rain. It just ain’t a post from me without the daily weather report now is it?
Funny, I also have a little ceramic bowl of paper clips - it’s the first piece I ever made in my very first ceramics class, so it’s not nearly as purty as the one I sent the swampster, but it works, so that’s what counts. It used to sit on my desk in the office, but now it’s in the corner of my desk at home. I guess technically it’s full of paperclips stolen from the gummint… oh noes!!!
Scruffy has adjusted - she didn’t bark till after 6 today, so yay! Taz, on the other hand, is worrying me - he’s looking skinny, as in I’m wondering if he’s eating. I’m going to rotiss a chickie for supper today, and its innards are crammed into the body cavity - I may try chopping some of that up for the cat - raw, of course. We shall see.
We had a real toad-soaker of a storm last night, which means I’ll be mowing some time this week. rah. My 'maters seem to be about done - one plant in particular is full of diseased-looking fruits. I don’t know if it’s stink bugs (I’ve only seen one or 2 this year) or some sort of blight. The peppers are a mess also - I need to pull all the ick plants up and see how the rest of them do. Just the chore in the heat of summer.
**FCD **is still crashed, even after a 3 hour nap yesterday. I expect he has a monstrous sleep deficit, so I’m letting him snooze as long as he wants. Plus I get me time here. Win-win!
Happy Monday, beginning week 2 of retirement. Don’t worry, I’ll get bored with counting eventually.
Morning all. Now that my vacation week has come and gone it’s time to get back to work with enthusiasm.
See. This is me being all enthusiastic. whee.
When I was in eighth grade I sat in a desk right across from my math teacher’s desk. He would collect the homework each day and paperclip them all together. He had one of those magnetic paperclip holders shaped like a rectangle with a hole on the top. One day I got to class early and connected all his paperclips together with the one on the end poking out on top. When he went to grab a paperclip to collect the homework, this three foot long chain came rising out of the holder. I had to spend the next part of class disconnecting all the paperclips, but the look on his face was worth it.
He was a great teacher- if you’re out there Mr. Bastian, hope you’re doing well!
Happy Monday, everyone! I have no paperclips in the house, nor do I have a pot to put them in. If I did have one of Moooom’s fancy pots, would I start collecting paper clips? That could turn into one of life’s unanswered mysteries!
I am at irk and suitably irked. It’s barely 18 degrees (those are British degrees, we like to be different) and windy out there, with a lot of cloud and the promise of rain.
Today I got my new job description for the post I may have to apply for if I decide to stay here. Well, I got the rest of the job descriptions too but I am not enamoured of any of the other jobs on offer so I might just have to apply for my own. It does contain all the elements of my current job, but now appears to contain the 50% of the post one grade higher than has changed from a full-time to a part-time role. I’m still not sure if I am all that interested but part of me says I should apply for it anyway, because it’s better than having no job at all.
My last unfettered day of vacation. I have tomorrow off, too, but the day is marred by the need to take VunderKind to the Bawlmer Airport so he can go back to Indyanner.
One thing I didn’t mention about my paper clips. They were in a goodie bag I got at an irk related thing several years ago. They were in a plastic container which I dumped into a bowl before I got MOOOOOOM’s bowl. The previous paper clip holdin’ bowl now sets on the dresser in the bedroom. OYKW uses that to dump change etc in when he stays at da cave. I just knew y’all would want to know that!
Irk is, well, irk. Paper irk. In about an hour I will be off to do some stuff at our center in large and in charge Arlington, Jawja where I wil also have N.O.L.. The lunches are usually pretty good. Oh and tonight I have Vestry meetin’ at the church house so don’t know what dindin will be but I foresee it involvin’ takeout of some variety cause I don’t wanna cook. Or maybe sammiches. We shall see.
I don’t have any paperclips. Usually if I need to clip something I’ll go to the kitchen and get a chip clip. As you’d expect this means we later find those chip clips in some pretty unusual places.
Okay, so Friday was the Cinderella performance. Let me preface this by noting that although she’d been in probably a half dozen community playhouse performances before, she’s always been young and has had very minor parts, never more than probably a dozen or so lines per. It was quite a shock when she came home this time and told us she had the lead.
In short then, this was the first time I’ve ever cried during a play. Not sobbed of course, more like tears of pride welling up uncontrollably from inside. She did awesome. She was Cinderella, humble, modest, kind and the mice were drawn to her like bees to a flower. Her singing voice was more beautiful than I’ve ever heard it and her confidence and presence left my wife and I, not to mention friends and family, simply in awe. I don’t know if she’ll do more, I hope so, but even if she doesn’t this was just a charming experience and memory in the life of a little girl.
In the paper yesterday it mentioned Dr. Gray and the CSU folks are upping their named storm prediction from 14 to 19 this season based on the fact we’re already at 5 when 2 is the norm, there’s little shear working against it and Gulf waters are so warm. Hopefully, somewhere in that mix will be our drought-buster.
My bowl from MOOOOOOM holds rocks. Pretty rocks, but still, rocks.
It’s 5 minutes until 7:00 AM here. The temperature is 54°F, predicted to be right around swampy’s wake up temp of 77°F. Summer is finally here. Well, it’s supposed to rain again tomorrow and Wednesday, but it will still be in the 70s.
Yesterday was Seafair. We watched the hydroplane races and the Blue Angels, along with some other aero-antics, which included fly-bys of the new Boeing planes. There was the 787, of course, as well as the new 747-8 cargo. Lots of Oooos and Ahhhhs were had by all.
There was food and sun and fun, nakeds and half nakeds out on the boats tied to the log-boom. The TV camera guys have to be careful scanning the crowd. No Naked Pictures on the TV.
Hubby didn’t have to be on the Camp-No-Fun boat* this year so we were able to enjoy the fun.
One of the fire dept rescue boats the lurk at the ends of the log-boom.
I was in No Mood this morning, but now that I’ve gotten some food and caffienation in me, that is fading a bit.
I have a tin of paperclips. It’s got Marvin the Martian on it from some gift I got when I was a teenager. I lost the top of it, but it lives in the Random Credenza in the Kitchen so it doesn’t get moved around much. Most of my paperclip-using is at irk, so I don’t use the home tin very often.
swampy, this MMP has inspired me - I have a bunch of paper-clip appropriate ceramic creations that I really need to rehome. So, anyone who is willing to send me the price of postage - I don’t think it’s ever been more than $6, depending on distance, I will gladly ship you a guaranteed one-of-a-kind hunk of fired and glazed clay! This goes for those of you who already have some but feel you need more also. Email me at my username at yahoo with your address and color preference if you like. I promise I will send you an item fully capable of containing paperclips or even pushpins!
We’ve got an appointment this afternoon to get our passports, so yay! Mine can actually just be mailed in, but since **FCD **has to do his in person (it’s been more than 15 years since his was issued) I’ll just go along and turn it in at the same time. We’ll be leaving in about 90 minutes.
**lieu **- that can’t possibly be your daughter! She was barely more than a babe in arms when you brought her to the mini-Dopefest! Then again, that was probably 6 years ago, yes? I know what you mean about tearing up, tho. My daughter is an OK singer, but when she had her little solo in a school play, I was absolute mush! Doggone kids anyway…
In other news, my studio is cleared so that I can get some primer and paint on the walls. I’m thinking the first coat will go on tomorrow, or maybe this afternoon. We’ll see how I feel after we come back from our passport errand.
I got Taz to eat a little bit of gushy food, but very little. He’s so thin - I bet he’s lost a pound, and that’s a lot on an 11# kitteh…
I don’t have any paperclips around here. I used to, but I guess I used them over the course of several years, and now I don’t have any.
I am finishing the caffienation process and then I will start on some chores around the house. No one is here but me and the crazy dogs, so I’m hoping to make a dent in my to-do list.
We had a great time over at our friend’s place yesterday. We went there to BBQ and socialize and we also played badminton. We were laughing so hard our faces were hurting and tears were streaming down our faces. We always have so much fun. No, it wasn’t because of booze. I had maybe a beer and a half over the course of about 8 hours. Mainly I drank water since we were outside, it was warm and we were really getting a workout with the badminton. I took a couple of Jerry Lewis falls diving for the shuttlecock, as did our friends. I’m sure we looked like loons, but who cares; we had fun.
One of my classmates in probably junior high connected some of our French teacher’s paper clips together. When she found out, she made him connect the rest of the biiiiiiiiig box of clips and then disconnect them all. A pretty good punishment-to-fit-the-crime. And pretty funny for the rest of us.
Taters and picu, we were just wondering over the weekend whether you are finally having some summer up there. Has the weather turned better recently? We’re finally having some normal, nice weather. Through June it was cold and rainy, and then the last 6 weeks have been miserably hot and humid. The humidity finally broke yesterday, and they’re predicting highs in the upper 70s to low 80s all week. Now THAT is what I call good summer weather!
I have to start performance reviews for my two direct reports this week. They’re both doing well, but it’s still not fun to deal with HR stuff. Rah.
While the weather isn’t horrible and it isn’t raining, we keep getting a pesky “marine layer” which keeps hiding the sun. It finally cleared up yesterday, but it’s back today. We’re pretty much stuck with this pattern over the next several days. What’s supposed to happen is we have the cloud cover in the morning and it’s supposed break by late morning to noon. It never really happened Friday or Saturday.
Temps are reaching around the low to mid 70s, which isn’t awful, but certainly isn’t summer. We’ve had a few days in the past few weeks where we broke 80 degrees.
Now, I don’t like it overly hot. I’m content with about 75 to tell you the truth. However, I’d like to see more sun.
My MOOOOOM ceramic bowl sits on the mantle and holds various things at various times. Currently it’s a flash drive, a pair of ear buds, the cat’s laser dot thingee and a ticket stub.
Nice day here today, the heat has temporarily broken. I see a long bike ride happenin’ today.
Once, when home on a break from college, I went into my dad’s den/office while he was still out, poured out the paperclip jar, connected about 85% of them, put them back in the jar and the remaining several loose ones on top. I was far away when he got to the connected ones. (we need an evil smiley)
Culinary Boy’s GM just called and fired him two hours before he was supposed to go in to work. Apparently GM decided to spend the last few days training Culinary Boy’s replacement and refused to transfer him to the SC location. I had a feeling things were going too smoothly. I know the job market sucks right now, but there’s no reason to treat employees like that. From the stories I’ve heard, that GM is on a power trip and will probably run that restaurant into the ground until the owner wises up.
Hey, universe, I don’t ask much but I would like my boyfriend to have a job that lasts longer than a month please and thank you.
