A Charitable MMP

I stayed up much too late catching up on my shows–Pushing Daisies is the cutest, weirdest, most macabre thing that’s ever been done on American tv, bar none. I love the color palette, too, it really makes the show.

My daughter has discovered Goodreads and now everybody on the flippin’ planet wants to be my friend! That and I discovered the Never Ending Book Quiz so I could probably just kiss my day goodbye–except that the Grandboy is coming over to help turn huge branches into small manageable branch chunks. It’s cold out today (36F right now, brr!) but it’s supposed to be mostly sunny. I will believe this when I see it!

Swampy, you get going on that homework, young man! Don’t make me get my ruler out… I think someone has spoiled that JoeDawg and he needs to be subjected to some strict discipline to put him in line. Pudding, indeed! Perhaps he needs a special chicken flavored pudding…

Mahna[sup]2[/sup], that is indeed a kickass bike–looks very comfy. I ride a lot off road so I need a mountain bike but mine is more of a cruiser and has a big comfy squashy seat on it–us girls who’ve had kids can’t really use those narrow little saddles anymore. It’s funny, but Himself used to tease me about my squashy gel seat until he had to borrow my bike for a while, now he sighs in envy of it but won’t replace his because it wouldn’t be manly… Suffer then, beyotch! :dubious:

FCM, you are avoiding the inevitable encounter–it’s something you SHOULD tackle when you aren’t mad so he won’t be able to discount your words as hyperbole born of anger. He sounds feckless and needs to be set straight and better now when it’s manageable than a divorce or bitter fighting later. It’s a favor to your girl, really…

Taters, dear, what’s a “99 shindig?”

Pie, the answer is “more cookies!”

Have fun in Seattle, kai!

I put the thermal bankie and flannel sheets on the bed and it’s soooooo toasty and lovely in there it’s a wrench to get up! I love winter bedclothes–I keep eyeing the down comforters at Ikea and getting ideas. They also have a royal purple duvet cover that would look smashing on my bed. I don’t understand people who use poly/cotton sheets and pay no nevermind to quality and comfort–we spend a third of our lives in our beds, they should be marvels of comfort and high thread counts. Then again, most people will eat at McDonald’s so I shouldn’t be so surprised…

LiLi, Thanksgiving already? Did I miss a few weeks? Que?

Smartie, 99 is a simple card game. I once did an MMP on it. Yeah, hard to believe I actually wrote a MMP, huh?

Anyway, it’s simple because…well…folks tend to have adult beverages when playing this game.

You play with two decks of cards, jokers removed.

The object of the game is to get to 99 without over.

Every card equals it face value except for the below:

9=99
8=Reverse
7=Pass
A=1 or 11 (players call)
10=-10 (negative 10)

Dealer deals everyone three cards and puts the rest of the cards in the middle of the table face down. He or she then flips one card up from the draw pile. Player to the left of the dealer is up first.

Let’s pretend the card that was flipped over was a king, so that would make the value of the pile 10. Player to the left of dealer throws his card on the pile and lets pretend his card is a six. The player MUST REMEMBER TO DRAW a card before the next player proceeds. The value of the pile is now 16.

At any rate, play progresses around the table, but the direction can be reversed because of the 8 card, and reversed again because it’s common.

Anyway, value of pile can’t get beyond 99. You can play a 9 card whatever the value of the pile, but always have a back-up (another 9, 8, 7, or 10) because the next player could reverse play back to you. If you can’t play, you’re out.

We usually play five bucks for two outs. It’s fun, and as the night progresses, it’s funny to watch some people start counting on their fingers.

I forgot to mention, the dealer changes with each round. The next dealer is the person the left of the previous dealer. Previous dealer always cuts the deck before the next dealer deals.

Play progresses until only one person remains and he or she takes the pot.

Again, it’s a simple game, but there’s always laughter and good times.

Anyway, time to shower.

Ok so I now know AT&T uses GSM. I read up on what that means. I didn’t check out the others. I figure if TPTB at the new gig think I need to know all that they’ll tell me.

Oh and SmartiePants ol’ y’all know who is da squeeze. He’s also known as ACBG (A Certain Burly Gentleman) and he’d love bein’ subjected to some strict discipline. :smiley: He got some puddin’ so he’s happy right now. Actually he’s nappin’ right now. Maybe I should go attack him.

OK…I’ve had lunch with bro, niece and nephew and also finished the first coat of actual paint on the baseboards and floor of my room. It looks very…purple. It’ll tone down with the next tone and be fine once the furniture re-invades, but right now it’s a little bit loud.

Now it’s off to figure out how to patch the front steps. Well there’s power washing and stuff. I’m deciding whether to brush rust off the railing first and possibly paint it. I’m more concerned with getting the steps patched (they’re sad), so I’m thinking that comes first.

Need to dig up the instructions I’d found…

Back after further accomplishments.

Dammit! I lost my post. There is some key on this keyboard that makes it go to the homepage.

Anyway, I’m back from volunteering. We built six raised gardens, each of which used 44 40-lb cinderblocks. I probably moved about 60 blocks, as well as shoveling dirt and moving wheelbarrows. I somehow got volunteered to be a team leader, and the BIG boss joined my team! I got to tell him what to do! Sorta. :wink:

I’m tahred and my arms are jello.

Laterz…

I forgot to add the following to my 99 instructions:

The first one out is the “beer/drink bitch”.

I’m managed to shower and I’m currently enjoying a roast beef, horseradish cheddar cheese, and deli mustard with horseradish, bread and butter stackers, on dark rye sammich. It’s tasty.

I figure I better get a lil food in my stomach before tonight’s happenings.

Soapy, if you’re out there I hope today is a better day. Take care of yourself.

Done for the day. The base cabinets are installed, and we’ve made the decisions about the 2 wall cabinets. When the cabinets are done, the flooring has to go in the nook and kitchen and all the baseboard has to go down. Ceiling fan needs to be installed in the living room (I may do that on one of my days off) and the countertops need to be made and installed. Still need to finish the stairwell and install that door. But all things considered, not much left to do.

**FCD **is taking a shower and I’ll be feeding the critters in about 30 minutes. No idea what we’re doing for supper - there’s some leftover bean soup and some meatloaf and assorted veggies. Or some chili in the freezer. I’ll see what my sweetie wants. Neither of us have eaten since breakfast and I expect we’ll be stahvink soon.

Smartie, one of the problems with SIL is similar to training a dog - you can’t effectively yell at him 3 days after his indiscretion. However, we’ll be breakfasting with both of them tomorrow, and I intend to initiate a discussion about responsibilities around the household, among other things. He will know what is bugging me. And if he accidentally gets knocked into the harbor at the boat show… :eek: :wink:

Yep, I’m stahvink - where the hell is the Supper Fairy??? :mad:

Ok, so I’m all dressed for this little soiree commencin’ in just a bit. Know what though? I don’t really wanna go. I’d rather just stay in and be a hermit. I can’t though. I made the cake. I’d be hunted down with pitchforks and torches if I don’t show up. I mean, no cake at a bday party? :eek:

I’d like to note here that **swampy **never gave me a cake for my birthday. Come to think of it, all he gives me for any occasion is abuse. Guess I know where I rate…

Just woke up from another nap and I’m tired.

That probably has to do with too many cookies (too much sugar). Oh well.

It sounds like we may be in business at the flea market place. My dad was there today selling stuff outside and talked to the inside manager. He seems to be interested in our cookie dough idea. So, I think this evening I’ll be researching some of the other stuff that we’re going to sell. More about that later.

Here. and I’m trying.

Thanks…

Anybody know anything about Hobby Lobby? I’m wondering which would be cheaper, Joann Fabrics, Hobby Lobby, or Michaels.

I’m worried about you…

I understand if you want keep whatever it is, private, (been there, done that), but I hope you know you can email me even if you just need to vent.

Just in case you were wondering, the Supper Fairy works at Bad Chinese, at least tonight.

:smiley:

So we’re fed and in for the night. Looking forward to a boat-filled day tomorrow. yay!

Good luck with the job, Smartie!

Aye, one of the weirdest phenomenons IME is that of the people who got hired as managers out of college and who have kept being in managerial positions, but who don’t know how to do the work of the people they’re supposed to select and train. I don’t expect the company’s CEO to be able to do a warehouse guy’s job, but he should be able to at least wing the job of Operations VP, and the Lab Manager should know enough about the daily QA tests to be able to poke a pHmeter into a sample without making a mess out of it. Ideally he should also be able to do it without sounding like the effort and effrontery are going to cause him to bust a gut.

[/soapbox]

Now excuse me, I’ll go back to having a weekend and, right now, to bed.

Hope things start to look up soon, Soapy.

Yay on the probably going to be able to sell cookie dough, Pie!

Done with round 1 of chisel and wimpy power washing (setting the hose on “Jet.”) There’s enough additional concrete off the steps that I might need to buy more supplies. But I’ll wait till I’ve run out to get more.

I’m gonna go for a walk and then decide what exciting indoor thing to do… Feeling rather productive. Yay!

Tonight’s dinner fairy in Ohio is Pizza Hut.:smiley:

CutiePie, I’ve been to both JoAnn’s and Michael’s recently–it’s hard to say if one is pricier than the other. Michael’s had a bigger selection, but that may have just been due to the location of both stores (the Michael’s was in a more upscale market). Mind you, this was just yarn and crochet accessories; I actually think Michael’s prices were a bit lower on some of the yarns.

Hope that helps!

Swampy, I just kinda assumed that the majority of the pudding was for you know who and the leftovers would then be a go-home for the puppy! Whoops! :stuck_out_tongue: Okay, good job on the GSM–now can you tell me the fastest and easiest way to tell if a phone is a GSM phone? Bonus points–can you use a Verizon phone in England?

Taters, I will take your word on it that 99 is a “simple” game because I couldn’t make heads nor tails out of that explanation! I’m sure it’s because I’m totally exhausted right now–the Grandboy and I beat up that HUUUGE pile of cypress branches and reduced them to a nice stack of stovewood, a box of kindling sticks and a large heap o’compost in the backyard. My arms also feel like jello! I took a nice shower afterward and now I’m all collapsed on the couch, Grandboy is absorbed in a new video game and Himself is making hamburgers for us and vegetarian corndogs for the kid. Widget is outside running around with my daughter’s dog who came along for the playdate–he gets lonely now that he doesn’t have SpaceDawg to pal around with, poor thing.

It’s hard to type because my hands are tired from using tools!

It’s Thanksgiving Weekend here in Canada. We celebrate it early, because we know American Thanksgiving means Turkey Overload. This way we’ve got time in between Thanksgiving and Christmas. :smiley:
Oof. Tired. Working tomorrow. Bleh. Going to bed. Kisses all around.
