A Charitable MMP

Umm, this?

Small tubs is my vote.
Okay, is it too hopelessly foodie to take my own hot sauce to a buffet? We’re going to the Mandarin (sound of Muppet rolling her eyes) (look, I have to take my Dad. He won’t go out for Indian or Greek) and I’m thinking about taking either my Sriracha or the Hakka chili-garlic sauce. They don’t have hot sauce at the restuarant. Or rather they do, but it’s this pathetic flavourless red goop.

What VBob said! That’s quark, it’s a kind of skimmed milk soft cheese that doesn’t really taste of very much at all. It features quite a lot in low-fat desserts and it makes a great mousse.

On the subject of mousse, we have a moose loose in the hoose. Apparently Ophie brought it in yesterday and was playing with it. Of course, 'im indoors didn’t bother to mention it until today…

Evening all. Busy week, getting back into the swing of regular working hours after Ramadan and Eid. I read everything, but can’t remember much, so just refer to rosie’s sig, wouldja pleez?

LiLi, HRH went from creeping round on her belly like a commando (from 5 months), to crawling on all fours (about 6 months), to cruising the furniture (from 7 months, which went on for months) to finally launching out on her own at about 12 months. Previous dumping grounds (like the coffee table) had to be cleared, and we now have a decreasing circle of not-for-HRH stuff on the dining table. I have to unplug the home phone when HRH is around, as she has been known to dial 999 (the equivalent of 911) on occasion! The funniest thing was watching her trying to sit down after she just figured out how to stand up - all she could was fall on her butt, since she didn’t know to bend her knees!

Ohh, and take your own hot sauce! Who cares what they think, as long as you enjoy your food! Hubby usually takes his own green (jalapeno) Tabasco with him when we go to some restaurants.

Okay, off to forage for din-dins!

Mornin’…er…um…Afternoon all!

This morning was crazy at work. My normal catching up with the MMP time became set someone up with Bloomberg and make a mess of it time. Aparently Docking stations for laptops are very sensitive and if it gets even a little bit disconnected you lost keyboard, mouse and monitor function. Good to know!! Anyway, all is fixed and Bloomberg is running as intended.

There was somethin’ else I was gonna say, but now I can’t remember. :smack:

Oh yeah! I went to Trader Joe’s last night for some things. They didn’t have what I most wanted though–milk chocolate chips and mini peanut butter cups. I want to make cookies with the pb cups, chocolate chips and peanut butter chips. That sounds really good to me, but alas, it will have to wait. I did get some really good Kalamata Olive Hummus though as well as the super awesome BBQ soy chips. Those of you that have TJ’s, you must try the BBQ soy chips. (Oh and don’t listen to the package, of course the whole bag is one serving. )

Cookies sound good Pie. Is there anyway that you could offer both sizes? More of the small, but a few of the larger ones too.

Ooooo **those of you with pecans **can send them to Pie to put in cookie dough which can then be sent to the rest of us poor things without cookie dough or pecans!! It’s a brilliant idea if I do say so myself!

Congrats on the job, Swampy

EEK for a mobile Gnat.

Off to finish lunch and prepare for a 1:00 meeting. :: waves ::

Did you ever have something that just keeps coming back to hurt you over and over again when you least expect. It’s happening right now.

LiLi, bringing your own hot sauce is somewhat snobbishly foodie-like, but I’m pretty sure that eating out at Mandarin is so horrendously not-foodie that balance is achieved.

Speaking of buffet, a few of us snuck out for a looooong lunch at the local Indian restaurants and are now stuffed to the gills with curry (it’s becoming a bad habit - we’re up to our third loooooong lunch in as many days). As it turns out, there will also be cake in the upstairs boardroom in 10 minutes to celebrate… something, I suppose. I’ll have to take a nap later to digest it all.

Hopefully we have something to do soon, because it appears that boredom at work is both expensive and fattening. :stuck_out_tongue:

Pie, I also vote for smaller tubs. Piglets like me can just buy two at a time.

I would have liked to go to Siddhartha, but I’d also like my Dad to be able to eat something. He doesn’t eat Foreign Food. I think I’ll take the Sriracha.

Have they found you any work yet?

Ciao! Ciao! Ciao! I actually climbed Vesuvius this morning. I thought I was gonna die! Holy Moly, though, what I saw was incredible. Seeing the ruins almost didn’t happen. More later. This is a beautiful place despite the garbage strike. We met such a character at dinner tonite.

Laterz!

No, still sitting around trying to find ways to look busy. I reached the end of the Internet on Monday, and am now making a second pass to see if I missed something interesting on the first go-round.

They say they may have work for us by Tuesday… an eternity of boredom looms between now and then. AAAAaaaaaugh.

Based on her last post, it sounds like Puggy used up all the fun.

This is a 24-hours-late response to the mac-&-cheese question, but we had non-mac-&-cheese last night. I had experimented previously with using the cheese sauce from mac-&-cheese on soybeans and found we really liked the resulting casserole. So that’s what we had last night, and that’d be my recommendation: try non-mac-&-cheese.

Tonight’s dinner will be some fish that one of KT’s coworkers caught “up north” last weekend and brought in to work for him yesterday. Yum!

Home. Gotta prime the last door. Back later with a real post.

MWAH!

Hmm. Soybeans. I do cauliflower cheese fairly often, and potatoes and cheese are just sort of scalloped potatoes. Hmm. You know what would probably be good? Curried cauliflower and mac’n’cheese. Muppet, do you still go to New York Subway? I miss their curried potato and cheese subs.
I should do fake lasagne tomorrow. I have ragu in the fridge. I could even make bechemel.

In ten minutes we’re off for Bad Chinese! I have packed my hot sauce!

Evenin’ Y’all! It’s thundery out so I won’t be here long. Just checkin’ in. Work was ok today. Had some folks come up and say they’re sorry I’m leavin’ which is always a nice thing to hear.

I went by the soon to be place of employment after work to fill out some paperwork stuff and all that jazz. I met a few folks and got shown around a little bit. I actually already knew what the place looked like cause I got a tour when it first opened and they had an open house type thingy. They are in the midst of upgrading stuff from computers to work stations. It’s a general refurbishin’ of the place which will make it feel kinda like goin’ to work in a brand new place.

Supper was leftovers from last night. Ol’ y’all know who is workin’ late tonight and tomorrow with his new staff person, poor thing!

Ok, the boombooms are gettin’ close so Ima get off’n my puter.

Hugs, yays, boos, trouts as needed.

Later Y’all!

P.S. Again, thanks for all the congrats!

It’s chill time - the primer on the door is still wet so I can’t do a second coat. I’ve had supper (leftovers.) I checked my TSP account (401k equivalent) I lost about 25% <insert weeping> thanks to the markets crashing. So now I’ve got time to share last night’s dream.

I dreamed my spousal unit bought a house without consulting or telling me. It had 2 kitchen sinks and 4 stoves (one wasn’t hooked up yet.) It had an elevator that took you downstairs to the bomb shelter, which was filled with hunting trophies - specifically deer heads and legs. There was no air conditioner. There was no lock on the front door. Strangers kept walking into the house. The garage was full of a bunch of stuff that my daughter and I decided we’d yardsale. The house was orange. Three lots down, there was a gas station.

I woke up angry at my husband. No, I hadn’t been drinking. No, we’re not house-hunting. My brain just went weird.

Looks like we’ve got a loverly weekend ahead. Daughter and SIL are going to the RenFaire on Saturday. FCD, daughter, and I are going to the sailboat show on Sunday. Bernie and Scruffy are getting cleaned and pressed on Friday. I’m off work Friday and Tuesday. Yep, good times…

Speaking of good times, it’s ice cream time!

popping in to say I love Two Lumps - might be back later to try to catch up

I vote for smaller tubs, too, Pie. Are you going to sell things that are already baked as well? Hope things start going better very soon.

Hugs to Smarty and Soapy as well.

Glad you’re having fun, Puggy! It’ll be fun to see pictures.

I have crash hot potatoes in the toaster oven and have already had some grape tomatoes.

Off to check whether the potatoes are done yet…

GT

I’d feel better if beebs were around…

Yep. We’re probably going to go with either smaller tubs or else ‘pre-formed’ scoops of cookie dough, aka, pucks. Personally, I think that pucks are easier to deal with and also will allow people to purchase more of a variety of cookies.

Trees fear me, for I am the Anti-Lorax! It’s sunny and beautiful out and since the credit union called me to set up a face to face interview (YAY!) I figured I might as well take advantage and trim down some of the horrible cypress trees in the back yard. Some imbecile planted SIX of these things about 2 feet apart and now the trunks are so big there’s barely room to squeeze between them–I’ve managed to nearly kill #3, which helps a bit but the rest are more than robust and they S-P-R-E-A-D O-U-T for miles and one of them overhangs a corner of the roof and drops crap all over it, not good. They also make the back yard very gloomy in winter and I’m just tired of that nonsense! So I got out my ladder and my bow saw and my loppers and I went out there and did some bidness! I also killed off a whole bunch of volunteer maples–I get these all the time since I have the hugest maple in the world in my yard. Now I have two huge piles of cypress branches, some of them over 20 ft long and 3-4 inches in diameter and my hands, arms and shoulders are TIRED!

I still need to get up on the roof and trim some smaller branches away and sweep off the needles and moss but right now I’m too tired and floopy to be trusted on a roof. Looks like it’s going to be nice right through the weekend, pretty much, so maybe I can get Grandboy to come over and help cut up the branches into stove lengths–daughter’s house has a nice woodburning stove and cypress is pitchy and makes good starter for oak and maple chunks. I also use some of the straighter thinner branches for garden structures, pea vine trellises and the like.

It was chilly last night so I’m putting the thermal blanket on the bed tonight–hell with that huddling together in one corner for warmth nonsense! Of course, when I could actually USE a hot flash is when the hormones decide to behave…

**Pugs **is giving me a terrible case of vacation envy!

This might give you all a giggle–the California Democrats rented a big billboard sign in LA right next to a Palin rally venue then started taking text messaged questions from the nation–whatever they’d like to ask her–and putting them up on the board. Some of them are hilarious, if a bit snarky, but all in all very respectful–must have been moderated! Check it out! Full video runs something like 45 minutes so don’t feel like you need to watch the whole thing…

It’s supposed to snow this weekend. Hopefully there’ll be a bit on Friday so I can see it since I’ll be going south and dropping several thousand feet on Saturday so will miss any snow that day and it’s way too early for it to stick for long.

Yes, I like snow. Some people think I’m insane, but I do.

Of course, the weather here is unpredictable enough they could be totally wrong. It’s going to be cold, though, no matter if it snows or not, they’re pretty good at predicting that. It’s supposed to get down into the low 20s tonight…brrrrrrrrr!
