A Creative MMP ...plus... It's Summer! A Garden Party MMP

CutiePie IMHO get somebody else to fix the window and never bother with those folks again. Sometimes it’s just best to move on.

Supper has been et, cobbler consumed and we’re goin’ to lie down and “watch tv”. Can one ever get enough of euphemisms?

So, I’m sayin’ nitey nite y’all! Just wanted to post real quick. Actually I came in to turn off puter cause there’s a tstorm a brewin’ and I feel better with it off.

Later Y’all!

That makes sense, gotti, I tend to lose sight of the fact that most laptop users are not like me and occasionally turn their computers off… :stuck_out_tongue: Mine’s pretty much always busy doing something so I never know when the scheduled maintenance goes off.

Mork, I’m having a hard time believing AT&T was the naysayer on third party apps because Cingular/AT&T has offered smartphones with third party apps since WAY before the iPhone was ever a tickle in Jobs’ pants. No, I think he pulled his comments out of his ass because he just didn’t want to say “sorry, but this is a very inferior smartphone compared to what’s already out there.” I’m not alone–in this 2007 article from Macworld the writer points out what was glaringly obvious about Jobs’ keynote speech:

As far as I’m concerned all the current hype about the NEW! IMPROVED! iPhone is silly because all they’re doing is just bringing the thing up to where it should have been a year ago. Heck, Himself was freaking out Apple store people because he installed an iPhone interface skin (WITH all functional icons!) onto several T-Mobile Dashes (HTC Excalibur) months before the iPhone actually debuted. The irony of it all is that many of the functions and icons he grafted onto the iPhone skin were apps that the actual iPhone would not support! If he’d had a Wing (HTC Herald) instead he’d have done the same thing, but with the touchscreen as well (and it would have been a screen that orients in two directions to match the keypad [the keypad the iPhone still doesn’t have!]) Sorry, color me just as unimpressed with the iPhone as I am with pretty much every other Apple product, all show, not nearly enough go for me and usually overpriced by a factor of 2-5.

Then add in the fact that I wouldn’t go with AT&T/Cingular/AT&T on a bet, a dare or under threat of death and it all adds up to “no iPhone in the SmartAleq house!” However, we do help our poor wayward child who DOES love the Apple products with PC apps to crack iTunes and Himself is planning on turning my old laptop into a Hackentosh for the daughter. We’re hoping she grows out of it…

Himself says that Apple products are for people who really just don’t like computers…

I also wonder how long it’s going to take for the iPhone apps store to catch up to the other smartphone apps? Shoot, we have over 3000 third party apps JUST for Windows Mobile on a hard drive right now, and probably nearly as many for the Palm OS… Something tells me it’s going to be quite some time, especially since the SDK is extremely circumscribed and it’s damned difficult to get apps certified by Apple to be marketed by them.

finally the weekend is here.
I may be having a “girl’s day” Sunday - lunch, shopping, ice cream (or adult refreshments, we’ll see) if it’s not too frickin’ humid.

That’s very cool!

ETA: I love my iPhone (1+ year old now)… love it, love it…

I’m cheap; I won’t buy an iPhone. I do however, have AT&T/Cingular, just because at the time and I think still, I got the biggest discount from them. I receive about a 20% discount because I’m a federal employee. Hey, I’ll take any discount I can get. I also rarely have coverage issues.

The weekend has begun and I’m finally home. However, I think I’ll be dashing out to the grocery store because I want some Diet Coke and there isn’t any in the house. We have Orange Fanta, Diet Cherry Coke and Diet Lime Coke. Blech to all of them. We’ll orange is okay, but I have to be in the mood for it.

Also a new Del Taco just opened up yesterday right down the road. I’m thinking that maybe that’ll be dinner. I don’t feel like cooking.

My daughter got her work schedule for next week. She doesn’t have to work until Wednesday and then she’s only working Wednesday through Saturday.

The check for our boat was deposited, and according the bank, we’ll be able to access those funds by Tuesday. They were nice and only put a two day local hold on it, versus a seven day hold.

Right now we’re wrestling with whether we want to go with a BMW 525 or a BMW 330 or 325. The 330 and 325 are much smaller inside and I’m thinking that there wouldn’t really be any knee room for the passengers in the back. The 525 offers a little more leg room inside for the backseat passengers. We sat in each of the models last night, but we didn’t want to take up the salesman’s time because we weren’t actually buying yet. We kept telling him that, but he insisted on staying with us. Anyway, as the time nears, we’ll see what we end up with.

Our friend has a dealer’s license, so he’s going to pull a listing from the auto auction for us. If we could save a few thousand that way, it would be a great help.

Also, our other friend is a manager type person at the BMW dealership that we visited last night. We haven’t asked him, but maybe he could cut us a deal too. We’ll see what happens.

Hmm, my tummy is gurgly. I’m thinking I should head to the store and Del Taco now.

If any of you have stock in Lowe’s, you can thank me for making you rich. I swear, we can’t get out of there for less than a coupla hunnert bucks. Sheesh.

We went to a new-ish place to eat, and we’ll never go back there. It was allegedly an Italian/pizza place. I ordered shrimp scampi on angel hair pasta, and **FCD ** got the seafood linguini (mussels, clams, shrimp, calamari), I had water, he had iced tea. Our dinners came with the saddest salads I’ve ever seen. Chopped up semi-limp romaine, one 1/4" thick cucumber ring sliced into quarters, three teensy pieces of tomato (honestly, barely 1/2" square!!), one onion ring sliced in quarters, and a few croutons. I will give them props for the bleu cheese dressing, but that’s all.

My entree (for $16.99) consisted of 7 large shrimp on top of a bowl of angel hair. There was a watery, oily “sauce” in the bottom. The shrimp were tasty, but they weren’t scampi, at least not any scampi I’ve ever had. Oh, and there were two extremely over-toasted wedges of garlic bread. **FCD ** said his was good - he certainly got lots of seafood, all arrayed on a large platter. He gave me a couple of his shrimp, which were exactly the same as my “scampi” His was also $16.99, and they charged me for my water, so the tab came to just shy of $40. Not at all worth it. So we won’t be going there again.

Oh, and for atmosphere, there was a “pub” sharing the building - 2 or 3 guys were singing something about Sex and Beer when we walked in. We peeked in there - the “pub” consisted of something that vaguely resembled a bar, plus some plastic folding tables and assorted mismatched chairs. Decidedly cheezy. I’d always wondered about that place. Now I know.

So we’re home, enjoying our house ourselves. Bliss… Lots of work tomorrow, but slugdom tonight. AAhhhhhhh.

The Boy and I decided that we should have a date night, since I’ll be gone all weekend keeping Mumsy company and we haven’t really had much “us” time this week. We ended up snagging a nice patio table at a neighbourhood Eyetalian joint for a leisurely din din, and then meandered on home. 'Twas nice.

Sorry you didn’t have quite the same luck with yours, FCM. I’m always annoyed when I end up overpaying for crappy food.

Taters, I will happily take the Cherry Coke off your hands. I miss Cherry Coke. They discontinued it up here in Canadia several years ago. Same with Vanilla Coke. :frowning: I always get a little weak in the knees when I look down the pop aisle of an American store - y’all have the good stuff!

So now I’ve packed my bag, double-checked that I have all the essentials for a weekend away, charged all the electronic doo-dads (camera and Blackberry), and have everything lined up by the door so I can grab it on my way out at the crack of 6am.

See y’all in the next MMP!

I’ve read it all and - well, it’s not a week where I’m able to keep up all that well. Stuff I remember: Yay on selling the boat!!! Nat has developed an attachment to the floor. A restaurant that sounds downright awful. Miscellaneous flirting. I agree with swampy on the sign thing, Pie. snowbunny is stressed…hugs. I was cheated out of memorable dreams last night. Safe trip, Mahna! There’s more, I’m sure, but I’m tired.

We ate at our local bad Chinese (which is actually pretty decent as buffets go) at lunch today. Work wasn’t horribly stressful, but I didn’t get as much done as I would have liked. (So, what else is new?)

I did a bit more planting in my garden tonight. I have a few miscellaneous plants that I haven’t planted yet; I’d like to have everything taken care of by tomorrow, just so SOMETHING is done.

Guess I should crawl into bed so that I can maybe get a decent night’s sleep.

Hugs…

Whew. We had a moment’s panic earlier – we figured we should doublecheck to make sure that our flights to Wisconsin next week hadn’t been canceled, but we couldn’t get the airline website to take our record locator number. Fortunately, a phone call got it all straight – and it’s a good thing we checked since they’ve reassigned the flight #s on our return flight, and the original number is now a flight leaving 3 hours earlier and stopping off en route. We can’t see the point of a stop on a 1 hour flight!

Sounds like Nat is doing an excellent job being a little boy, LiLi. Papa Tigs and I were discussing over-protected children the other day, especially the ones who are never allowed near any germs, and as he said, “Every child needs to eat a little dirt now and then!” So apparently Nat heard him and is taking his advice.

If you don’t think you can afford a lawyer right now, Pie, your mom can certainly file a complaint directly with the EEOC. I highly recommend she does that. There’s no earthly reason for her to have to stand doing a cashier’s job when there are so many cashiers who have to sit occasionally.

I’m very glad snowbunny has such an awesome boss who’s willing to convert her to full-time any time she wants! A good boss is really worth their weight in gold. And I agree that it would be nice for her not to be so dependent on Social Security. They’ve jerked her around a lot over the years, creating panic and consternation just by being idiots – guess what, folks? She ain’t gonna grow any more or outgrow her nerve damage, and she was diagnosed by a leading world expert on her particular form of dwarfism so yes, she does indeed have that! – and so it would be nice to not have to worry about that any more. I must say this couldn’t have happened at a better time for her, in terms of where she’s living and her job. Sometimes things work out well even though they don’t look good at first.

Everybody keep your fingers crossed for me – they’re having a special weekend at the Amish market and are drawing for prizes, including a beautiful quilt, which is what I want, obviously! So send good thoughts for the drawing – I covet that quilt!

I’ve had a not terribly productive day, but I do need to get this job finished over the weekend, so I guess I should shut up and do something. It’s just been a lazy day, and I’ve appreciated that. But first I need to eat some of that home-churned chocolate ice cream Papa Tigs brought home from the Amish market this morning. Umm…home churned ice cream from happy Amish cows. What could be better? :: drool ::

I’m not doing anything (again). I watched HP3–I seem to be on an HP kick. But I did ILL “Chries and Whispers” so I need to watch it this weekend. I’m kinda embarrassed that I’ve never seen it.
It got dark out while I watched HP3 and started a puzzle. I’m old already… It’s supposed to be thunderboomy tomorrow, so I think downtown is out. Maybe Sunday. Dunno. No ambition to do much, but know I’ll regret having not done it. gack.

Ooh, a beamer? Love either one–they’re so fun to drive.

Muppet (the original), I envy you! One of the houses I lived in as a kid had blackberry bushes everywhere and we would just stuff our faces with the buggers whenever we could. Which for me was until I saw a bee and then I’d run away.

Smarty(pants) , et. al, a month ago when I lost my iPhone I was all pumped for their release today, but I don’t have 200 bucks to spend, and won’t for a very very long time - the place I’m living now is so cheap that my rent is going to literally quadruple when I move to the new place. (Well, it’s not /totally/ a fair comparison because the new place is utilities-included, so it’s really only a doubling or so, but it sounds more dramatic that way)

Moooom, that sounds exactly like the place that used to be here in town. At first it was an awesome casual Italian place, and made FREAKING AWESOME calzones AND delivered - then it turned into a really shitty yet expensive Italian place, where you got served small piles of mediocre food on too-big white plates and paid for the lavish experience. Oh yeah, and we’re in a dry county so no wine or cocktails. They ended up closing some months after someone there was caught skimming money off credit cards - I forget if they were stealing the numbers or just running it through the machine for extra money, I guess they never got over the bad PR.

Now I’m home and tummy is full. Local Daddybear took me out for KFC (he had a coupon for a free 8pc meal ;)) Then he got to watch me take all 5.5 of the pills I had taken with me (I’ve been halving the hydrocodone so I can still function, 3.75mg is still plenty.)

Tomorrow should be an interesting day, two of the three pharmacists are on vacation, and the third one finally has a day off this week, so it’s all in the hands of a visiting pharmacist. I hope we’ll be able to trick him with the whole “Well normal pharmacist lets us take an extra break on Saturdays”, and “**Normal pharmacist lets us leave putting up the drug order for Sunday” and such.

SPEAKING OF WHICH, I have two job offers for my new move - one of them is super close to the university, and one is super close to my house. The only other advantage to the one that’s super close to the school is that the other girl who’s moving to Little Rock is taking a job at that one, because pay would be the same at either one. And the pharmacy manager at that one sounds like he’s both cute and family. I need to go google his name…

Home. Just had a few dizzy spells today. I like my cat. Also:Braaaaaiiiiiiinnnnnnssssss!!!

Hi Haze

Is there a problem with that? :slings trout mush at muppet :

Yay for bunnyboss!

Beerverages and then bed.

doggio, lulz @ the face on that dog in the second picture.

Also, not quite a durnken post, but I’m real tired, and took a whole tablet of my painkiller along with my regular sleepytime meds and so I’m kind of struggling to stay awake, and at my fine motor skills. Like typing.

Need to add, for my 3rd post in the last couple of hours - today is my little brother’s birthday. In one more year, he’ going to be able to buy porn and cigarettes!!! :eek;

donkeybear, my little brother can buy porn and cigs (though he doesn’t smoke, but I’ve seen him drink beer!). It’s a weird feeling. He’s 24, so he’s got a few years on your brother, but he’s still my little brother. It’s weird that he’s all grown up and stuff.

I’m trying not to totally freak out, because I sort of asked for this. Ya see, at the start of the year, I thought, “Hey, if this job works out, I could do it full-time, and tell Social Security to go away and leave me alone for another forty years. Yep, I want to do that…before the end of the year.” Apparently somebody has decided that now is as good a time as any. I’m going to have a few words with whoever that is when I figure out exactly who is responsible.

I can handle this. I just have to get used to the idea.

On a happier note, I found out today that I have a front row seat for the Great Big Sea concert in Boise in exactly three months from today! They had a pre-sale and I put in a request for an aisle seat if I didn’t get front row (they had an online presale, I guess seats got assigned in the order that people ordered)…I got both! Woohoo!

So. Cute!

Exhausted after staying out til 2am last night. Thank God I only have one class today. One hour down, two more hours to go!

Still about the sex life of the grandparental units…
From SmartAleq:Nava, that’s a pretty disturbing story about your grandma–did grandpa never think of maybe going down on her to get her ready for The Act? Jamming a fist into a virgin in order to break a hymen sounds like a fabulous recipe for a sex-hatin’ wife. - end quote

They’d already gone to town in every way except penile-vaginal intercourse and anal. The problem wasn’t that she wasn’t ready, it’s that she was “a hard virgin,” in her words. He could penetrate her, he just couldn’t break her. So, since boners don’t have bones, he used something which does.

Sex-hatin’, me ass… he had his prostate out about ten years back and she complained that he didn’t last as long as he used to. He had a stroke two years ago; the doctors list him as 99% recovered (his affected hand trembles sometimes when he’s trying to do delicate work) but she reckons it’s because the docs don’t ask about their sex life - so far the daughters have managed to keep her from blurting “but his dick still isn’t working!” to the doctor, who’s divorced (cheating ex) with two kids and no boyfriend.

Grandma is 95, Grandpa 94. My parents on the other hand stopped having sex in their 40s… I’ve got a family of extremes, I do.
Yikes Nava…are you trying to compete with DonkeyBear for Most TMI post ever?! LOL That’s definitely in the running. I thank you for spoilering it, but at the same time regret my own insatiable curiosity!

And good morning all! Or whatever it is in your part of the world. I’m up and caffeinating, yes early on a Saturday, but am headed to the grocery store shortly. Tomorrow it’s the Farmer’s Market for fresh veggies and fruits.

Wow - I actually slept in till after 6! Yay!! **FCD ** is still snoozing, so I’m taking advantage of quiet time.

Speaking of little brothers, yesterday I was marking up the calendar on my desk at work and realized that in about a month, my baby brother turns 52. And the youngest of my sisters is 43. So shaddup, the lot o’ youse, and get of my lawn!!! :stuck_out_tongue:

Nat’s floor-eating reminded me of a little boy I babysat in college. His parents had no problems with him sharing chew toys with the dog. That to me was just a wee bit extreme. Tho I guess it worked out OK - I did hear that he made it to teenagehood, and by my calculations, he’d be in his 30s now. Criminy, he could be a Mumper and I wouldn’t even know it. So Eric, son of Dan and Jean, are you OK???

It’s gonna be a busy day here again. Then daughter gets in tonight - dunno if she’s bringing anyone with her. Guess that depends upon who’s on her schedule. I expect since she’s gonna be here, SIL will come back early. Plus he has to work tomorrow. I like saying that!

Still haven’t heard about a teaching job for the girl, but the county website still lists a need for elementary teachers, so I’m going to assume they’re still wading thru apps… Fingers crossed for gainful employment.

I need breakfast. One of our favorite places closed down - something about a dispute with the landlord. So we’re pretty much stuck with Bob Evans - ick. I’m sick of Bob’s. I wish we still had Perkins. Or even another local joint. Alas… woe is me…

<sigh>

Anyway, Happy Saturday!

Nava:

That was fantastic.
