A Creative MMP ...plus... It's Summer! A Garden Party MMP

Poor Pie, it just keeps gettin’ better, don’t it? Re the relationship crapola I have all the sympathy in the world–been dere, gots da teeshirt, alla dat. Re the A/C I recommend taking a small towel, soaking it, wringing it out, putting it in the freezer for a while and then draping it around your neck. Amazing how well that works.

I’m working up the enthusiasm for beginning a sewing project–as the second (seekrit!) part of Grandboy’s birthday present we’re taking him to an SCA event in a couple of weeks. He’s wanted to go to one ever since he heard about it and twelve seems like a perfect age. Of course this means I have to make him some garb and we’re having to drag out all our old tourney gear from where it’s been stashed for the past ten years, yeesh! I think I’m also going to make him a pair of boffer swords and a hunkerhauser set because that pretty much ensures he’ll make a shitload of friends in about ten seconds… I’ll tell ya one thing–what with purchasing fabric, the time to make it up, site fees, food, gas for the van and upgrades to our own gear it probably would’ve been cheaper just to take him to Hawaii for a weekend! Well, not quite but I’m entitled to a little hyperbole…

C’mon, girl, get your ass in gear here… gronk

Have I mentioned how stunningly beautiful it is outside?

It’s gorgeous. We’re getting ready to go out to breakfast, and then will stop at the store to buy some paste wax for the rig. I also need to pick up a couple of other things, so I think we’ll hit Fred Meyer to do this. After that, we’ll come home and wash and wax my Expedition. I’m sure that’s going to take several hours.

If I wasn’t so damn cheap, I’d just take the rig to the auto detailing place just up the road.

Break time!

We got the kids up early (8-ish) and took them to Denny’s for breakfast. Then we came home and started some work. Daughter did her laundry, SIL and I moved some sheetrock downstairs and installed the first piece on the ceiling. FCD installed the bath surround. SIL has left for work, daughter is folding her clean clothes, and I just finished slicing up 2 Amish cantalopes. We’ll be heading back to work shortly. Good times, good times.

Gonna ask you to keep your fingers crossed just a little longer for **FCD ** - he thinks he may hear this week about the job he really wants. He’s gotten several cryptic but encouraging messages from the man doing the hiring. I really hope he gets it - NASA is really starting to drive him crazy, and honestly, I don’t blame him. I’m used to dealing with the gov’t and what he’s up against is worse than anything I ever encountered.

Well, back to work.

SmartiePants young lady, get busy doing whatever that is you’re doing. I didn’t understand any of it. Still, it’s not going to do itself you know! So march right in there and get busy. The sooner you start the sooner you’ll be finished. Don’t give me that look! Do you want your face to freeze like that?

Some motivation for ya.

Home from churchification and lunchification. It’s hawt outside. I considered pool time but it’s nice and cool in da cave so I think a nappy poo is in order.

A mosquito has followed me in the house and bitten me twice now.

Thanks, swampy, I needed that!

Pie, I left a response in that other thread and after I posted I saw your final entry–I respect your feelings but I just gotta say I think you deserve better. And a hug. {{{Pie}}} And a bugswatter for the skeeter–WHAP! :smack:

It really is gorgeous outside–I really, REALLY wanna go swimming or somethin’…

kicks own ass OW!

the crud returns… I wonder if I have a virus–

headache, joint ache, stiff neck…

stay away, I sick!

Hope Nat stays cheerful, LiLi.

No A/C sounds like no fun at all, Pie.

I went to Home Depot, then to church, have now had lunch and procrastinated for an hour (well, I hung dropcloths in two doorways to keep sawdust to a minimum.

Now I’m gonna go sand stuff. (I was gonna do laundry, but decided that should be done at the end of the day.)

Off to sand. No really. Not procrastinating any more. Honest. I promise.

GT

If I read her answer right, she actually does get Firdays off. Still a bone crushing load!

Especially **humble **moms… :stuck_out_tongue:

**Pie **-- you know what they say: troubles come in threesomes. Hopefully the mosquito counts, and is the end of your troubles for today. {{{}}}

{{{Ivory}}} – feel better! Being sick is no way to spend the weekend :frowning:

My favorite is Tapestry. It reminds me that if we got rid of something we don’t like about ourselves, there’s a good possibility that something we do like about ourselves would disappear as well. It’s often a package deal. That doesn’t mean we can’t change, just that our personalities are very complex, sometimes in a good way.

And btw, I spent the morning trying to find the recovery disk I made when I originally got this computer after all the talk of computers crashing. I remember putting it in a very safe place. Now where would that place be?

: putting on the gas mask:

Get better, Soapy!
ETA: Lunch, you’re ignoring me again, aren’t you? Well, we’ll see about that. . . .

Yes.

Oops…:stuck_out_tongue:

ETA: added smiley, just in case…

Also – first. It never works when I try!

We quit. We brought all the sheetrock from the trailer into the basement. We put a second piece of sheetrock on the ceiling, installed the return air duct, finished the tub surround, and then just quit. **FCD ** is hurting, and I can’t do anything down there alone - it’s just too physically demanding. Getting old sucks.

I think I need ice cream. Yeah, that’s the ticket.

Nope, you’re a big girl now, snowbunny (well, not literally, but you know what I mean!) so you get to handle this one all on your own. You can do it. You’ve already proved that to me by the way you’ve been handling it thus far. So there! :stuck_out_tongue:

Good thoughts for FCD to get that job! It sounds like what he’s gone through at NASA is totally ridiculous; I hope it works out for him to get the new job!

I fondly remember living in Lalaland with no AC – we were close enough to the water (about 1.5 miles inland from Venice Beach, a couple hundred feet up on a hill on the ocean side) that we got the ocean breeze 99% of the time and the temp was perfect. Granted, it got boring as shit having the weather the same year-round, but it still was nice to not need AC except for maybe 2 days a year, and even those weren’t bad. But I cannot imagine how my poor father grew up in Fort Worth pre-AC. Although I did adopt a lot of my grandmother’s keep-cool techniques to keep my electric bills down – those pre-AC folks knew how to get the most out of what little cooler air there was!

Back to work. It doesn’t get done by my sitting here reading the Dope, no matter how preferable that is. Sigh.

ETA: Damn, I’m losing my mind! The whole reason I got online was to say that Papa Tigs brought me home two bars of Green & Black’s chocolate, one milk, one dark! I haven’t tried the dark yet, but the milk is amazing, and I’m not even a milk chocolate fan! Nom nom nom! You folks who said it’s the best weren’t kidding!!!

I’ve done not much today.

I still have to take my loaded car over to recycling, and I am thinking I need new jeans, but I don’t know if I want to hit the mall today or go after work tomorrow (I’m down to two pairs that don’t have holes and one is getting pretty thin, and the buttons catch on my driver’s seat and are wrecking it… why are there buttons on the back pocket? I need seat covers too. Tried to buy some but they won’t fit so I need to return them…)

Ah yes, such an exciting day. I just got off the phone with TVMan’s local ex. She wants me to make a cake in the shape of a tombstone for her boyfriend’s birthday. Sounds kind of like fun.

Forgot to mention that GilaMonster told me today that she will probably lose her home by the end of the month. It turns out that the church that her husband works for may have a house that they can rent for a low price. The house is supposedly much nicer than where she lives now and would have a nice big yard for her kids. Still, it’s upsetting. I’m upset that I can’t do more for her. I wish I had the hours to give her to make up the difference in house payment. It’s a sad situation and I feel helpless. :frowning:

{{{Pie and Gilamonster}}}

I’ve been pretty busy today. Took all three dogs to the dog park, where some drama unfolded. I was sitting on the bench, watching all the dogs playing together. Lots of dogs on Sunday! These two in particular were lots of fun to watch. A bloodhound and a smaller mixed breed (Sally) were wrestling and jumping, rolling on the ground. So cute to watch! They played for about half an hour, I would guess. In their running around, I got bumped hard and ended up twisting my ankle. The mom of Sally got bumped pretty hard, too, and was saved from falling by grabbing a tree. That wasn’t the drama, that’s just life at the dog park.

Anyway, I walked over to the water fountain. In the meantime, a new dog had come up and tried to get in the middle of the two wrestling dogs. I didn’t see it, but the new dog got bit somehow, on the face, and was bleeding. It was just one small spot, but the owner went ballistic! Got Sally’s mom’s phone number, since supposedly her dog was the “vicious” one. She had no problem giving the info. Irate Dad stomped out of the park.

I decided to leave, and Sally’s mom, too. We walked out and Irate Dad had called the cops! Totally over the top! She asked me to stay to be a character witness if needed, since I had just observed Sally being as docile a creature as any could be. The cop said no report would be filed, since it was a “dog fight in a dog park,” and they had come to an agreement about vet bills. They didn’t need my statement.

I just can’t believe how pissed off this guy was. His dog wasn’t disfigured at all, just a pea sized little scratch. I’m not sure how I would have responded in his shoes, though. Every time Lucy has gotten in a scuffle we just separate the dogs and go opposite directions. She’s never been bleeding, though.

So then I came home and washed Blaze and Lucy outside in the yard, and took Ernie in the shower with me. He looks like a drowned rat when he’s wet! I’ll have to get a pic sometime.

Anyway, my ankle hurts! It’s not bad, really, and not swollen. But I haven’t had time to elevate it, and it’s kinda throbbing. I’ve been to the grocery store and put them all away. I watered the plants and flowers, and refilled the birdbath after Mr Rebo mowed and weed-ate (weed-eated?) The yard looks much better! It was a [del]bit[/del] lot overgrown.

Tonight’s dindin will be meatloaf, parsley potatoes and green beans. A yellow cake has been baked. There will chocolate icing, and Blue Bell vanilla ice cream.

OK - enough rambling! Off to see about the Feud, and the Quirky Party games…

See y’all tomorrow!

Wow, sounds like someone needs to get a little help with anger management, Rebo. Seems like you have to expect the possibility of dogs getting into a scuffle if you’re in a dog park and as long as you’re able to break up the scuffle quickly you should be able to deal. Of course, I don’t own pets, so maybe I’m way off.

Hugs for snowbunny. Isn’t it fun being a grown up?

I’m done sanding the floor, I think. Decided it’s too messy to actually finish and that I’m going to paint. I’m going to lay hardwood over it later anyway, so I don’t think it’s particularly important for it to be lovely for a couple of years. There are some scratches and dings that would take quite a bit of sanding to get out, so I’m not gonna bother.

Just need to finish sanding the baseboards and the door frame and door and I’ll be ready to clean up and start patching. I’m thinking I won’t get to paint till tomorrow.

It’s turned lovely out and I’d really like to go out and do a bit of gardening. (Already did a little bit of pruning and deadheading on my break. Also went to get an iced coffee drink and walked around the block just to stretch out.

Back to the saltmines.

Hugs to all…

Are you still planning to start us off tomorrow, Spaz?

GT

Rebo I say that y’all should tell butthole his dog is welcome to play with the other dogs but he is not welcome to play with the humans. Idiot!

Ok, I am on longer Mr. Meanie Pants. Le sigh. Why do I have to be so nice dammit! I helped my friend get his new phone activated. Turns out that the “can only be activated at the toy store” line did go down the tubes what with all the problems on Firday. So, uber nice bear that I am, I assisted him in gettin’ his phone all activated. I had to get a little mean though. He was dillydallyin’ about what the wanted as his itunes id, password and security question. I finally said, either tell me sump’n now or I’ll make it all sump’n ugly and tell everybody what you registered yourself as. I got an answer then cause, well, he knows I just might do that.

Appropriate/Inappropriate appendages crossed for FCD and the job.

Feel better Soapy!

I am so not going through 7 pages of posts just to get caught up. If someone posted a recipe, please let me know.

I’m home from camping. Had a ton of fun. So don’t want to be back home. We managed to survive a Severe Thunderstorm Warning on Thursday and HUGE downpours Friday night. We were in a tent and no leaks. YAY.

I so want to go camping again.
