OK, derm appt is now at 230. Grrrr. I look like some kind of allergy victim. It’s not allergies (unless it’s a contact dermatitis).
OK, I just found the source of the problem with the dishwasher (or a main part of the problem anyway). There is stuff caked on to the heating element. I just brushed it off and strangely enough, vacuumed out my dishwasher. Let’s hope it works.
Off to do stuff otherwise it’ll be another Doper day and I can’t have that…
I third the motion for turkey burgers. I usually put some feta and oregano and roughly chopped spinach in mine, in case you’re not a fan of zucchini (if you want to take the Greek theme further, you can also serve on pita with chopped tomato and thin slices of cuke, then slather in tzatziki sauce).
Also, fingers crossed that Kaiser covers CBT for you, Pie. It’s gaining a lot of acceptance these days, so I’d be quite surprised if they didn’t (especially since it’s cheaper for them than drug-based alternatives like upping your dosage or switching meds). IMO, drugs are good things, but even better when combined with alternative non-drug options like CBT and regular exercise.
To do today:
finish a bunch of spreadsheets
walk home (since I’ve been slacking on my training for the 60K walk in Sept)
figure out dinner of some sort
water the garden (if it doesn’t rain between now and then, that is)
eat dinner
tidy up the kitchen
deal with Mt Clothing that has sprouted up magically in a corner of the bedroom
do laundry
Though if I’m still feeling sick when work is done, I may just give into temptation and order crappy Chinese food, plonk myself in front of the teevee and studiously ignore Mt Clothing for another day.
Taxi, yes I make all our own hamburger and hot dog buns. The hot dog buns look funny, but they taste damn good! We don’t like store bought bread anymore…I think I spoiled us, lol.
I know, I know. I’m still here. I’m even reading along, but for some reason I never get around to posting. My day usually runs like this:
Wake up at around 9:30 - 10am
Lounge around until about 1-2pm (write emails, have lunch, brush cat, etc)
Leave for work
Get back home around 11:30pm
Eat dinner, space out, chat with The Guy
Go to bed around 1:30am
I work six hours a day, which isn’t a lot in terms of hours, but for the entire six hours I’m on my feet, trying to keep the attention of a classroom full of brats. And then the freakin’ hour-and-a-half commute both ways doesn’t help either. [/whine]
Basically, you’re working 10 hours a day! And either commuting or on your feet the whole time. I’m working 10-11 hours daily, most of the time, but I drive 20 minutes each way home and back, and do my work sitting down in front of a computer for the most part – and I’m still bushed by the end of the day! No wonder you’re tired.
OTOH, I wish I could keep those hours, too… I have to be up by around 7 AM every day, though. And try to fall asleep before midnight… :dubious: :smack:
You’re going to walk home, Muppet? It’s bloody hot! You’re nuts! Stop for ice cream!
Finally got the little guy to sleep in the car on the way to get the new microwave, and he’s just gone for his second nap. Poor little guy. He was all tired but stuffy and felt terrible when he was lying down. I think. Anyway, he’s sleeping now and I should wash dishes and get Mr. Lissar up to go to the walk-in clinic for a doctor’s note.
In the context of something you might be able to get from your health insurance, what is CBT?
The only translation of CBT I know is rather NSFW… I’m guessing swampy and the fully-randomized young ursus are also thinking the same thing.
Ghost news - He moved DH’s reading glasses from the nightstand to the bottom of DH’s knitting basket last night. At least he left the AC alone - the house absorbed so much heat that the AC couldn’t get it cooled off until about midnight.
Well – knock on wood – today hasn’t been as harried as it was yesterday, so I should be thankful for that. On the other hand there’s still three and a half hours of work day to go.
It’s still hot, but now the just slightly cool breeze of this morning has been replaced by a warm wind that does little to cool. I have central air (or what of it makes it into my office from the next one because my office is behind a firewall that they can’t extend the HVAC system through) and a fan going, so I’m relatively cool in here anyway.
My task list for today?
Work, work, and work 'til 5, with a bit of Doping in between
Get coffee on the way home
Add soundtrack, titling and credits to and edit new app video for iPhone, then post it on the blog
Post one or two other blog entries
Make dinner
Eat dinner
Watch Star Wars Episode IV: A New Hope, because we’ve just gone through the first three over the last four days and we’re on a movie series kick lately, mostly because there’s nothing good on TV
Shower, then bed
Doesn’t look like a lot, but the video editing will probably take 2-3 hours.
LiLi - That … was not ice cream. That was a list of 100 of the world’s most heinous dairy abominations ever committed by humankind, and I’m glad I read that after lunch.
Gotti - I think it is a rare insurance clause wherein if a certain set of qualifying circumstances arise, you are eligible to inherit the Count Basie Theater in New Jersey.
Mahna[sup]2[/sup] - I wore a T-Shirt today, but I could have used that auto-ironing humidity yesterday.
I know… there’s probably an entry in the Geneva convention about that, but such is life. Besides, one of the important parts of training for a 60K walk is training under all sorts of weather conditions to toughen yourself up since you have no idea what awaits you on the weekend of the big event (last year we had blazing hot sunshine and nearly 40C with Humidex on day 1, and then cold drizzly rain on day 2).
Also, wasabi ice cream is Teh Yum. Seriously. Right up there with black sesame, which is ridiculously yummy despite the fact that it is alarmingly… well… black.
**gotti ** (and the rest of you who are floating in the gutter with gotti ) CBT = Cognitive Behaviour Therapy. Or rather, “behavior”, since y’all spell funny.
Hot. Have just rearranged kitchen. Without QD, so I’ll be in trouble.
Okay, I have a bag of mixed berries that I found in the freezer out and thawing. Something I can make with them that doesn’t need heat or an ice cream maker? Raspberries, blackberries, blueberries, strawberries.
To Do Today:
[del]1.make hair appt for me and the boys[/del]
2.go to dermatologist-I now have a rash around my eyes. I look BEAUTIFUL!
[del]3.get to laundromat to wash King sized comforter, dry at home if no more rain[/del]
[del]4.dinner-need inspiration, have ground turkey thawing. I don’t do peppers, EVER.[/del]
5.clean something–something probably needs it and if you think I’m gardening in this heat and humidity you’re crazy!
[del]6. get gas for the car[/del]
7. grade #2 son’s “homework”
8. put together #1 son’s driving stuff so he can take the btw next week.
Glad to see we’re all busy today. Thanks for the dinner ideas. I will most likely make some kind of Italian inspired patties with it.
I still have to go buy a paper to see if I made it into it. I really doubt it. Off to derm soon.
Wow! I like to make bread, but I’ve never attempted anything like that. Do you just use a regular white bread type recipe and then shape it into buns? And how do you shape the hot dog buns? Really cool!
My afternoon… well, we got back from a team lunch to welcome the new guy. He seems nice. And we got coffee on the way back so I’m awake despite my run of sleep-lite nights. (Well, they haven’t been sleepless nights. So I’m making up my own word to describe them. ) And I’m getting used to the mouse being on the left to try to cut down on the stress on my right arm, which is causing the right shoulder pain. Beyond all that…
Finish up about 3 tasks that have deadlines today.
Learn how to do a different task to cover for a coworker who’ll be out the rest of the week.
Getting out of here (hopefully) by 6 if I can get everything done.
Grabbing dinner somewhere fast
Heading to church for an Emergency Preparedness meeting. We’ve got someone from the Red Cross coming tonight to check out our facilities to tell us how we might be able to help in a regional emergency. I don’t think we’d be able to shelter people who’ve been evacuated from their homes, but there are probably other things we could do.
Reading more of Lean Mean 13 which I finally picked up yesterday. Yay!
Spaz, I also swear by the baking soda cocktail (1 tsp of baking soda in a glass of cold water). Repeat every couple of hours for a couple of days. It’s disgusting, to say the least, though somewhat tolerable if you chug it down fast. Between that and the juice, it oughta set you straight.
Pie, glad it turned out to be nothing serious.
So I’m killing time until I can corner my manager and ask him a 2-second question. Unfortunately, he’s up to his eyeballs with Important Stuff and doesn’t have the time to answer right now… which sucks, because until he does, my spreadsheet gets to sit in limbo. Oy.
I’M IN THE SUN-TIMES TODAY!!!
And the derm tells me I’m addicted to my face med–apparently it’s a steroid and that is why my face gets better, only to get worse. <sigh>
Awaiting Rx to be filled. Need to start dinner soon. And do the rest of the list. ugh.
Eek, that’s a **lot ** of sodium! (There’s 1230 mg of sodium per teaspoon) Just something to be aware of…the RDA for sodium is only about 2400 mg.
I don’t wanna go home! Current temperature there is 108, and it’s only 3:00! Too bad I can’t bottle the cool air in the office and take it home - it would be nice to be able to save a little electricity.
