A DopeFest proposal (Camp Cecil) . . . (suggestions wanted).

An honest proposal for the Teeming Millions:

Would you be willing to go to a Dopefest, anywhere, where you went camping for a weekend?

And I’m kicking around about the idea. What if, someone planned a Dopefest in a national forest like Glacier or Yellowstone, figured out a couple of scenic hikes, a bonfire or two (and a few beers and steaks), maybe Bad Astronimer on hand for some stargazing [sub]Good Sir, what form of currency may I bribe you in[/sub]?

Would you go? I’m thinking that once I get back from a little three-month ‘business trip’ overseas, I’ll have some time I can use to plan just such an event.

Drop me a line here if you’re interested. Also, what would you want to have with you/at Camp Cecil? Totally out of the blue, I’d pick June or July for a tentative date. When it’s warmer, and a little more pleasant outside.

Like I said, I’m kickin’ around the idea.

Make that Bad Astronomer.

Sorry! I’ll add a six pack of any cold, carbonated beverage to your fee.

Damn keyboard operator.

Camping? Nah. Let sleeping bags lie, I say.

Hey, sounds like a fun idea.

I love to camp.

You…you mean…outside? gazes in horror through the windows

How often do you camp inside?

Nah, there is no outside. It’s just a myth that parents use to scare their children.

“If you don’t stop whining we will go camping next year!”

I can’t imagine this group without a dedicated connection and coffee IVs.

Glacier: Grizzlies: check.
Yellowstone: Grizzlies: check.
How about somewhere in Colorado?

The US Forest Service offers cabinsand lookouts In some states (I stayed at a few last year). I couldn’t do a rockies trip in 2004, but Northern Minnesota is a lovely place
Ginger, they actually sell campfire *espresso * machines!

If it’s at Glacier (Waterton-Glacier International Peace Park), showers at my mom’s are within driving distance.

That’s what I thought. huddles in the comforting glow of his monitor, stroking the Ethernet cable and mumbling “My precious…”

In a tent, sleeping on the cold, hard ground, and perhaps no way to get up off said ground in the morning? Not a chance. My bones being some 25 yrs older than the rest of me, that’s not happening. In a cabin out in the sticks, with hopefully indoor plumbing? Sure, count me in, if the timing works. Glacier is too far away, and therefore out of my budget entirely. Somewhere Conus is a lot more likely. What about Big Bend National Park? I can drive there in a matter of hours.

Seriously, count me as a definite maybe, depending on location, dates, etc.

Wait.

You mean outside? With bugs and wild animals and plants that can make my skin break out and stuff?

No thank you.

Robin

I have never in my life been camping. I told my husband this 20 years ago and he said he’d take me. Still hasn’t happened.

I’m not at all interested in sleeping outside, being a month away from my 50th birthday, but I’d do cabin camping. However, considering I hope to be transferring on June 1, what with the move and all, there’s no way I could do anything this year. But it sounds like a lot of fun, and I know I’m strong enough to survive a few days sans internet.

Seriously.

Quick sniggering!!!

That sounds great, Trip! As long as it’s, like, real close to me, I’m in. Moderately far, an I’ll have to run it by the Activities Director. Make sure she doesn’t have Plans.

Look for plans for a very low-key (car) camping Fest with attached picnic (and book swap!) in the Adequate State of Ohio sometime this Spring. (The end of May? Early June?) Well, not you personally since you’re booked. Unless you’re back by then. And the plans gel this year.

Heck yeah! I’d actually go out of my way for that kind of Dopefest. I’d be OK with pretty much anywhere in the west, although I might actually be able to help with organization if it’s in one of the four corner states.

I vote for somewhere with hot springs.

The Bluesclan loves camping, but the parks you mention are a bit far for us to get to. If you ever want to do some tropical beach camping, though, let us know!

I love camping, I think it’s a swell idea. We should go winter camping and we could go dog sledding, and make on of those snow shelters, and we could make hot chocolate.

I’m in, particularly since I’m halfway between Glacier and Yellowstone.

There are some forsest service cabins available for rent, even in summer near Yellowstone and others in Montana.
