A DopeFest proposal (Camp Cecil) . . . (suggestions wanted).

Dammit whistlepig! Where were you when I made this queary? (I’ll still take any hidden gems you have, if you’d like to email me)

Y’know, there is such a thing as inflatible mattresses for them thar folk who are too freakin’ sissified to camp in the truest form: without cable hook up.

As long as their is a 24/7 store with a meat department around, when I can hunt up food, then its aokay by moi.

Shirley
Who sends her regrets on the camping as we are going to the Rat Kingdom this year. Yes, I am a tool.

I’d love to join in, and I’ll vote for a place that has protection from the bugs and a fridge for my insulin.

We could go to Yellowstone and tour the supervolcano caldera. I hear there is increased seismic activity there.

For outdoor activity, maybe we could go geocaching or play some paintball. There must be a massive BBQ; we will need a good kitchen to work in.

Clean rest facilities are also a must.

The campfire conversation will be the highlight of the trip, regardless of what we do. We need to make sure one of the resident storytellers makes it to the camp.

I would be up for it if it were a within a reasonable distance.

What is your present clearance, Citizen?
Are you happy staying inside?
Happiness is mandatory; The Computer is your friend.

I haven’t been camping in a very long time, probably not since 1995ish. I might join a weekend camping trip on this side of the country. So I’m definitely a maybe.

OTOH, if Bad Astronomer is the weekend’s guest star, I’d be highly interested in attending, at any location!

Depending on the timing and details, of course, I would be willing to rough it and camp for a bit.

Like so many of the other East Coasters, I’d be up for it if it were within a comfortable distance of here (parlay it into a visit back East?) I’ve just already overcommitted Verrain and myself on the travel budget, between the NYC Fest, two gaming conventions, and the very real possibility that he’ll have his doctorate and we’ll be moving by the end of the year.

But if we don’t have to fly to get there - count (at least me) in.

I have a matchlock and I’m not afraid to use it, pal. What is it yer CinC said a couple months ago? “Bring 'em on”? :stuck_out_tongue:

Don’t get me wrong, I’ll camp outside if that’s the general consensus. Heck, I’ve slept in a pile of leaves and one of the best nights sleep I got was on a poncho laying against a sand berm.

I’d go to meet the Dopers attending this blowout. Everything else is secondary.

Such dedication! Kickass!

So, beside the locations of Yellowstone or Glacier, anyone got any ideas on locations?

Tripler
Grand Canyon maybe?

  • Shayna and yours truly went camping at Big Bear (CA) for our honeymoon. We stayed at the Serrano campsite - truly beautiful place, great hiking trails, good facilities, room for RVs. But, admittedly, no cabins.

If Big Bear does not meet with the approval of the Teeming/Camping Millions, we’ll certainly take travelling into consideration - this sounds like fun. Campfire songs, s’mores, hikes… Woohoo!

Our idea of roughing it is Motel 6.

But we could probably do cabins, if you twist our arm. And if Phil does his astronomy lecture, that would be an added treat.

I might be in depending on when you do it. Yeah I’m from Maryland but I would welcome the nice long motorcycle ride. However, I’d only be able to come if it was in late July as I plan on spending most of June in Europe.

There is something so wrong with those three sentences.

I wasn’t the one who wrote them.
Sounds like you’re going to have a great summer.

I could get excited about the lodge/campground deal. I have never seen Yellowstone so that would be my first choice but anyplace similar works, as long as it has indoor showers and clean sheets. Since I will soon collect my first Social Security check, sleeping on the ground is out of the question (I think that is a SSA rule).

Yes, well I have been saving up my leave, as in I haven’t done much this past year. I’m not taking off now ect so I have to make my sacrifices as well. However, it’s going to be hard work motorcylcing around Europe for a month or so.

Well, if you need someone to share the workload, I know that I would volunteer to help you. That’s just the kind of person I am, always willing to help out those in need.
