Nut, hope the hive works out; sorry about losing the swarm.
FCM, got a friend with a 2yr old boy that is way taller than most kids his age. Maybe we should introduce him and Roxy (one problem; he’s in Australia…
Butters, Maine is beautiful, so very different than the Keys (and not so hot). Hope Buddy and Scooter reach a detente.
Afternoon was a Tokyo Raid (Do-little). Then decided to go to Red Robin (Yum) for dinner just about the time it started raining. Rain stopped and started 3 times while on the 8 mile drive to the restaurant, but it was dry at the parking lot and I made it indoors without a bit of rain.
Once inside, I was seated in the bar area, about 4 minutes later a couple is seated and they get waited on first (I haven’t even been acknowledged yet). Two minutes later another guy comes in and HE gets served. I get up, walk back to the front, and let the (manager?-she was in a different uniform) know that I was not amused and requested seating where I would be waited on. To her credit, she immediately took me to a seat, took my order, and made sure the guy working that section took good care of me. By the time I finished the rain had come and gone, so I remained dry.
Bleah. The callers were their usual selves. No one memorably stupid, crazy, or obnoxious, but lots of small annoying antics, and I am going to have to ask my sup to move me to another area when she gets back from vacation. There’s a very loud group of chatty types, who somehow manage to be on slower queues, so have lots of time to loudly socialize, while those of us getting hit with back-to-back-to-back calls can barely hear our callers over the gabfest, and somehow they’ve managed to be moved all near each other.
I’d love to know how they’re going to absorb a good-size training class of newbies when there are barely enough working workstations for the existing crew.
Library changed their hours, so I barely missed being able to pick up a hold item today. I still have enough time before deadline that I can do it over the weekend, but I wanted to hermit this weekend, dammit!
I do hope the Princess does not decide to make 1am wailing howls to find her humans a habit. We’ve lived in this apartment for 7 years, she’s only 9 (so not senile yet), she knows where we are at 1am - in bed.
I have to work on Saturday. It is a celebration of the moon landing, and I have to glaze Moon Pies to make their color look like the moon. They are going to be ugly as sin, and not worth the trouble or my time. I am at the point where I would rather stay home than work extra, even if it is overtime.
Good Mornin’ Y’all! Up and caffeinatin’. YAWN ‘Tis 76 Amurrkin out and clear with a predicted high of 98 and N.O.S. for the day. I shall lay in provisions this mornin’ and then deal with stuff over to the church house this afternoon. Rah. I shall decide upon sup whilst at the Pubic Sto’. Hopefully sump’n will inspire.
Nuts innerestin’ about queen bees and such. Hope her majesty is residin’ in the hive already.
CupCakes make moon pies look like the moon? Are you coverin’ 'em in green cheese?
Butters yay for Buddy beginnin’ to adapt. I’m sure Scooter will learn to tolerate him in time.
Now I need more caffeine and to feed rumbly tummy. Then, alas, alack, and bother, I suppose I shall purtify and don appropriate bein’ about the public attire. Why must life be so hard!
Running really late today. It started when my alarm went off and I couldn’t find the remote - I turn the TV on first thing to see the weather (and in the thin hope that the Cheeto-in-Chief might have been abducted by aliens overnight.) I looked on the floor, under the bed, all around the room - even out in the living room - before finding it on FCD’s night stand under his lounging-around t-shirt.
Shortly thereafter, I heard a noise of something falling and I assumed Taz knocked down something in the bathroom. Turns out he knocked over our Galileo thermometer, dammit. Daughter and SIL found it while I was getting ready - SIL vacuumed up the glass that shot all the way down the hall. I don’t know what kind of liquid is in those things, but I figure I’ll pull out the carpet cleaner when I get home. Dammit.
Taz is also on The List for peeing on the couch, but I think it was because Cozmo was left upstairs yesterday, and he and Taz are NOT buddies. The couch has been sprayed several times with the enzyme stuff, and I expect this weekend, I’ll toss the cushion covers in the washer and use the upholstery attachment of the carpet cleaner on the rest. Dammit.
After some of the things I went through saving Dad’s desk ----- washing it with 50% bleach and then sanding it down; ever sand bleached oak? ------ I feel for you. But in a strange way its always worth it.
On the good side I survived HellDay One and I think everyone else did as well. Some question about the two folks who went out on stretchers but ------ after this past winter 2 a day is nothing much of note. And thanks to our resident paramedic we haven’t lost anyone yet to the Grim Reaper. At least not on the floor.
**ruble **- I thought about you last night. There was a news story about locals opposing a planned Jungle distribution center. Apparently there were no public hearings, and folks are a bit miffed about the thought of many tractor-trailers going up and down the one road that accesses the proposed site. There goes the neighborhood…
It’s hot out already.
Going to be N.O.S. and in the mid 90s today.
I dropped the brat off at daycare, came home and did a little irk in the yard.
I didn’t last long, the mosquitoes were already biting, and it is hot.
I need a tree cut down, but it is in the neighbor’s yard. The branches are resting on the roof of my shed. I should have cut it down when I moved here, I could have done it with lops at that time. Anyway, I know she won’t care, but if I get a pro in I don’t know if they will do it without getting permission from the landlord.
If it didn’t have wires running through it I would do it myself, and probably knock myself out getting hit in the head or something.
In some ways her management company really pisses me off, they don’t do shit in her yard. They must have sent somebody out to kill the weeds around the telephone pole behind her house, but that is all they killed. Sprayed around the pole, that is it. We have been taking care of the entire parking area behind her house as well as behind our house and the next neighbor up. This year we haven’t done it. It also pisses me off that I will have one weed growing through my fence and the f’ing bitch at the city will send me a notice, but the neighbors have weeds that are 3-4 feet high out there and not a word gets said to them.
Although I haven’t heard a word from the city yet this year. I’m surprised but maybe the dumb bitch got wind that I was planning on going over her head the next time I got one. I think the real problem is (as I found out last summer) that she is friends with one of the sisters that tried to block me from closing on the house. I think there was a little intended harassment going on.
Part of me feels like since we use the entire back yard, we should keep it mowed, etc. But now I am out there trimming trees and bushes. Her sidewalk is totally overgrown. I having enough trouble keeping up with the jungle on my side. I swear some of the weeds and shit grow several feet every time it rains.
I would love to smack whoever it was that lived here before and put bricks everywhere. Every time I try to plant flowers I hit brick.
My son said he was putting down the stone today, stuck his head out the door, and said never mind. I told him he needs to get out there early, it is 80 feels like 90 degrees out there now.
I’m staying in today. There is enough to keep me busy in the house.
Afternoon all (or at least it will be by the time I finish this message). Rained most of the morning and we might get another shower here in a bit, but then it should start to dry up. Temperature is down in the 70’s getting to 83F, so the rain has cooled us down some.
Need to put the dishes away from the dishwasher, but other than that no major plans for today.
Blurf Irk for a while longer. Buddy Boy is locked in the crate all day. I feel mucho guilty. He has a bed, toys, food and water and a pee pad in there. I will be so glad when hubby is back so he can take him out at least once during the day.
We have a visiting Director so I can’t bring him to irk. The old (new) director is out. This visitor is only here for 30 days to make a report. He is very nice and runs an excellent installation but he is cramping my style right now. So over this place.
I spoke to hubs and he is fascinated with the differences in tides in Maine vice the Keys. I hope he is taking photos. He is staying in Winter Harbor but was visiting Bar Harbor today and is eating good seafood so he says.
We did a schooner cruise in Maine 9 years ago, then 2 years ago, we stopped in a couple of ports in Maine on a cruise ship - I love that part of the country! It’s beautiful! Plus lobsters.
Was going to to ask one of my fellow Mumpers to do me a favor & call the airline & tell them that you wanted to say “Hello” to your friend, Jack. Just to make such i knew it was from you, I’d ask you to use a code name, something unique, like, “Dionaea muscipula”. Now i gotta pray for an earthquake or hurricane…unless Ruble can launch a cannon barrage & take out the local roads.
Eureka!!! I found my watch!! Not that I lost it, but it’s older and the crystal is really scratched up. Plus the latch keeps unlatching. So I googled a number I found on the back of the case and discovered it’s available at the WalMart in Prince Frederick. YAY!!
I ordered 2 (a whopping $7.88 each) and they’ll email me when they’re ready for pickup.
The reason I’m excited - it has a large, but not crazy big, face with good contrast between the back and the numbers and hands. It has a link bracelet rather than a stretchy or buckled band, so it’s not too tight or too loose. And I just like the way it looks
Howdy Y’all! This mornin’ I took care of procurement of provisions and stuff over to the church house. I had considered some quality cee-mint pond time this afternoon but ‘tis too hawt out! Seriously the water is warm out there. I bought some salmon steaks whilst at the Pubic Sto’ and those along with wild rice and peas 'n carrots made for sup which was pretty good. I did the salmon in the oven as I did not even want to go outside and light the grill as is my usual wont. Inside in the a/c is the place to be right now.
So I did 6 and a half hours at irk and two more driving to and fro and Buddy managed to hold it. Such a good little guy but he was more than ready to go and go he did. How can such a little dog crap so much?
Hubby did send a few pics and I foresee a return to Maine one day with me in tow.
I need to make a trip to the grocery store as I need cat food and me food but that means doing it. The cat will survive without her special food and I can always scrounge up something. Decisions, decisions. I could just call it a day right now at 5 PM.i wrote this at 5 but didn’t hit post.
baker, maybe decorate your moon pies like a human backside? I hit the age where I didn’t want to do extra hours a few years back, so I don’t unless needed (like EoM)
sari, the spray around the utility pole in your neighbors yard was likely done by the utility.
Mooooooom, you’re lucky on the watch issue. I needed to have a vintage wristwatch repaired (so vintage that it’s a wind up) and couldn’t find anyone closer than Franklin, KY. I took it and my grandfather’s pocket watch up there to be repaired and came away $350 poorer, but with some cool photos of G-grandad’s watch on the inside (my late uncle was a watchmaker and had done the last repair, leaving his watchmaker’s mark).
Irk was irksome. When I got home, Nelson had horked a little in his crate. He’s had some tummy troubles this week, so now, there’s a pot of chicken and rice on the stove to give him something bland to eat. I hope that does the trick.
