A (dreaded) vaction in the MMP

There is an extreme heat warning starting tomorrow through Saturday night. Temps close to 100. I am taking off tomorrow and Friday to keep an eye on Ariel. I will bring her in from pasture around noon and she will stay in front of her fan.

So I changed my vacation plans(which cost me an extra $150) for nothing. they moved inventory to March of next year. I found this out by searching old to do emails, and clicking through three layers of site links. Just short of finding in a locked file cabinet in a disused lavatory with a “Beware of Leopard” sign on it.
<screams internally>

Vaguely nervous hell; send lawyers, guns and money to wherever spidey lives…
Evening all. Evening storm that passed through was the highlight of the afternoon/evening (such an exciting life I lead).

Have finished going through my vacation pictures, will try to work up the ambition to put some of them on my Facebook page tomorrow.

Speaking of which, Butters, if you do get to Maine, try to add in several days in the Halifax/St. John region, I think hsuband-unit and you will like it there.

Wet one, stay cool.

FCM, happy you found the watch; I’m the same way, like large numbers with good contrast.

We never talk to anyone about our plans; not even people inside the company. And that results to some dumb-bunny moves. We tried a place like ours up near the Old Family Homestead. They should have asked. Try Number One they picked a place with the wrong lay-out on a road that even the locals can’t navigate in the winter and you expect to get 53 foot trailers on it? And for Try Number Two they picked an empty industrial park and again found out why it is empty except for the guards who take snow-mobiles to and from work for a month or three a year. After that they gave up and just filter the stuff through Philly.

But on the good side they have been talking about and investigating places around us for a major FC --------- for five years. I’ll believe it when it happens.
Today was a disaster mostly because of all the bosses trying to boss us at the same time. But I survived with one small wound. A very heavy box clipped a tendon. But on the good side I got a free Gatoraide for it. Go me!!!

Good Mornin’ Y’all! Up and caffeinatin’. YAWN ‘Tis 77 Amurrkin out and clear with a predicted high of 97 and mostly N.O.S. for the day. There are rumors of rain tomorrow and possibly Sattidy. We could use some good rains. The big plan of the day is to go assist with mowage over to the church house this mornin’. I envision doin’ the big part of the front forty. Rah. Sup shall be boxed lasagna (don’t judge!), sallit, and cheesey garlic bread.

Now I need more caffeine and rumbly tummy demands sustenance. Then I suppose I should make myself somewhat decent and go forward and mow. Rah.

Happy Thursday Y’all!

SIL took us all to Salsa’s last night with his first paycheck. Sadly, I’m living a stereotype - gastrointestinal distress. I love their shrimp tacos, but last night, they apparently didn’t love me. Dammit.

Then I was hoping we’d get some precip, since it was clouding over forbiddingly. Nope, it all passed north and west of us. Dammit. And now we’re promised 100°+ heat indices for the next 3 days. Dammit.

Other than that, it’s a lovely morning. Happy Thursday! :stuck_out_tongue:

Up, caffeinated, and sheveled. Off to work

One and a half days to vacation, and tomorrow is WFH so except for The Dreaded Phone Call it’s going to be a sit on my ass day. I’m pretty much all packed up already.

How long till Quit O’Clock?

Calling out today. I was up too late with some sort of digestive woe (had to let it get done and over with before going to bed, so I wouldn’t keep DH awake with dashes to the bathroom).

Happy Thorsday!

It’s a cloudy 75 degrees outside, supposed to rain and get up to 91.

We did get a good rain yesterday afternoon, and the temps dropped from the 90s into the 70s.

Other than irking, I am not planning on doing much today. My hands still hurt from pulling weeds and dragging branches across the yard.
I also woke at 3:30 and couldn’t get back to sleep. I wanted to sleep in today, but I forgot what time I was supposed to log in today, had dreams about being late for irk, and so got up at my usual time.

I doubt we will go to the park today. It is going to be hot, and I’ll sit outside with the brat for a while. It won’t be enough, but it will have to do,

My son said he was putting out the stone today, but he was already in bed when I got downstairs, so that isn’t happening, Not that I care. I wanted him to get to bed earlier. He sleeps all day, gets up late, then he has a ton of school irk that he wants me to proofread 10 or 11 at night. When I am so tired I can’t see straight. I told him he needs to get up earlier and get it done.
Yesterday’s work was to write response posts to 3 classmates on a message board, which doesn’t sound like a lot except each response has to been several paragraphs long and include inline citations and references. As the professor said, each response is a mini paper. You don’t churn out three mini papers in an hour or two. First you have to read all your classmates’ posts, which had to be a minimum of two pages each, including cites and references. Then you have to pick something, anything, to respond to, craft a response, add in the citations, which means reading more material, and then format it. Took him about six hours. He is a very slow writer.
Since there are only 5 students in the class, and one of them didn’t do the original post, he couldn’t even pick and choose who to respond to. Less reading, but he totally disagreed with everything one student said and had a very hard time responding to her. I told him to check her sources, more reading, and see if he could add to something she said. He still wrote that he disagreed with one of her points, but he had the sources to back up what he said. Which I’m sure is the purpose of the assignment. It takes the place of classroom discussion, but he doesn’t like to disagree with people, he is afraid of appearing to be rude.

Red, you may be right about the utility company doing the spraying, however, my neighbor has told me she has gotten letters from the city about the weeds around the telephone pole.
We usually spray out there but we have been too busy with other stuff to get out there.
Fortunately, my area of the parking pad doesn’t get very weedy, probably because I use it.

I’m thinking I want to paint the porch and the shutters out front. I’m okay with the floor being gray, but the railing are gray and I’d like a different color. The shutters and door are a sort of brownish red, I think I’d rather they were blue. If I leave the floor gray, then I don’t have to worry about the porch being one color on one side and a different color on the other. The neighbor and I do share one shutter between our doors, I think it would be stupid to have it two different colors, so if she agrees I’ll paint it and if she doesn’t I’ll leave it.
Then again, it’s probably not going to happen anytime soon anyway. I don’t know why I keep coming up with more things to do.
I’m already behind on my list and I’m tired

Yet another day. Got my elbow brace on and ready to be productive for 12 hours or so. I will be curious to see if we rolled anything over last night.

Morning all. Stayed up until midnight, so of course I woke up at 6am…nappage is a definite possibility later on. Rained late last night and 50% chance today, so getting the lawn mowed is going to be postponed again (it is getting rather long).

Sari, you’re getting nearly as much education as Son-unit is; and for free (grin)

Nava, enjoy your vacation.

FCM, hope your tummy gets to feeling better.

I got home yesterday and Buddy had been in his crate for 8 1/2 hours and held it. I took him to he nearby ballpark and threw a tennis ball a hundred times to wear him out. Sometime in the middle of the night he wanted off the bed ( went and peed on pee pad ) and he actually used the stairs to get back on the bed. He is a very smart puppy. He just wants to chew on my hands and arms. I have given him all kinds of chew toys. Today he has more space as I put a fence around the cage and left it open. I can see on the cameras that he is in the crate sleeping.

New visiting director was back by here. I am not thrilled about him. It’s going to be a long month.

Today is my lead clerk Ms. Judy’s last day and I actually got permission to close for two hours so we can all go to lunch. We are going to a nice place right on the beach.

Nettie and FCMooom Here is hoping the stomach woes clear up soonest.

I am grumpy today.

I think I need to find a new carrier for my cell phone. I have been with at&t for years, since they were at&t, then another name, then back to at&t. Probably close to 20 years.

Their website sucks. OAOASO I still on my plan. A while back he made a 3rd party purchase, he told me about it, but as per usual for him, he took his sweet ole time paying for it. For well over a month I have been trying to block 3rd party purchases. I cannot get into that part of the website. It either sits there trying to load, I have gotten up and walked away from the computer and 45 minutes later it is still trying to load. Or it logs me out and makes me log in again, over and over and over. I have talked to several cs people, who tell me they can’t do it and send me emails with the instructions, which are useless if you can’t get into the website to do it.
Of course the parts of the website where they want you to buy a new phone, or add a line, or buy accessories works just fine.
Techs have told me to delete cookies, clear my cache - still does not work.
So today the cs person said she would mirror my account and walk me through the steps and guess what… SHE can’t get in either. Does the same thing to her, hangs up, or logs her out, or sends her through loops.

The website is a piece of shit, and I would really expect more from a company that offers wireless, internet, and directv.

I asked them to remove the charges, which OAOASO denies making. I believe him, because he is pretty honest when he does such things, he just takes his time reimbursing me. As well as the same purchase was made twice in the same day, why buy the same thing twice? He can be stupid, but he is not that stupid. Sounds more like something one of his sons or nephews would do.
I’ve already been arguing with him all morning about it, but now that I have cooled off I realize he is probably telling the truth.

So I told at&t if they didn’t remove the charges I was finding a new carrier.
When I get off irk I will call back and see if I can get a supervisor.
If not, then I guess I need to shop around.
I don’t like verizon or nextel.
I have always been happy with at&t, so it is not an easy decision.

Then yesterday, to improve my mood, I got an email from an ex employer, with whom I did not leave under nice circumstances, asking me to subscribe to their service. My expletive filled reply with requests for them to FOAD and burn in hell afterwards should make it pretty clean my answer is ‘NO’, but knowing them, I will get another email. I thought I had them marked as spam as I have received previous emails, but maybe they sent it from a different address.
If they pay back the money they stole from me… I’d still tell them to FOAD.
I always said if I won it big in the lottery I would offer all the lowly employees a years salary in cash to walk off the job without giving notice. Or maybe I would start a bogus company and pay them to sit around and do nothing as long as they didn’t go back there.
Probably why the universe doesn’t let me win. It knows I will use the money for evil instead of good.

But is it evil to put a hurting on an evil company?

I actually got to do a little design work today, and I worked right thru my usual lunch, so I’ve lunched a bit later. My gut seems to be mellowed, so yay for that! And I got an email from WalMart that my watches are ready for pickup, so yay for that, too. I haven’t been to the WalMart in LaPlata in years, so it’ll be an adventure!

I have a Seiko Bellmatic I bought in Hong Kong in '69 or '70 that doesn’t keep good time anymore so I took it to the jeweler in town to be cleaned and timed and they sent it into Portland to a Seiko guy who wanted $500 for the work!:eek:
For a watch I only paid, IIRC, $39 for back in the day. I hate to throw it away, but sheesh!

Gatorade fixes tendons? I’ll make a note.

There’s a guy up on our roof measuring for a re-roofing estimate and Gibbs is having a fit. Vinnie, of course, is asleep on the bathroom rug. He couldn’t care less.
We had a trusted friend give us an estimate last week. $24,000! Old Victorian houses have lots of roofs going every which way, but still… le sigh

Bumba - that’s a heck of a lot for a roof! IIRC we paid $12,000 for ours in 2013, but it wasn’t a Victorian.

Tuesday 'Beamette went back into the hospital for another round of head treatments. I’ve been driving back and forth instead of staying with her this time. I’m just trying to help out at home and be there for her. It’s a balancing act.

Take care everyone.

Speaking of watches, mine are ready for pickup at the LaPlata WalMart. I’ll probably pick them up tomorrow - maybe I’ll take **FCD **out to supper somewhere up there, because I’m nice, dammit!

Weird thing with a guy who came to the door yesterday. Actually, not up to the door, but stood out on the entry sidewalk loudly saying “Hello” until I went to the door to see da fook was up. It was an African American man, who had a some sort of folder in one hand.

Now, I mention that he was black because there are companies whose tactic for selling is to load a van up with young black folks that they have trained to sell magazines and such, to give a sad story to go along with it, and then drop them off in neighborhoods to go door to door. In a liberal city like Portland, it’s not a bad tactic. Portland is also very white. A black person coming to your door in this end of the city is unusual, so I suspect they teach these folks to give home owners some space.

This guy, however, was older than the others I’ve seen in the past. He seemed fairly sad, and the first thing he said was that he wasn’t selling anything or trying to change my religion, just trying to turn his life around. Then he started talking about growing up in Chicago, surrounded by “nothing but knuckleheads”, and asked me if I’d ever been there. I said no, and he seemed surprised. “Never been there?”. Again I said no.

“Well, okay, have a good day.” And he left. Now, I know that he was there to try to sell me something, but I think he may have missed the part of the training that tells them to keep pressing. Or maybe his life really is crap and his heart isn’t in it. It was just kind of weird and sad.

Sari, T-Mobil uses the same frequencies and protocols as the Death Star. Sprint and Viagra play on different bands. They would require new phones. Some phones now are agnostic–they speak all carriers.

Of course, by now depending on how old the phone is, you need something with a new battery anyways…
