OK, why haven’t I been able to get to the Dope till now?? Weird. **Taters **was in the same situation. I suspect a plot!
{{Kai}} glad ta see ya!
I came home early and finally planted the stuffI bought last week. I also have some ceramics pics, two of which include plants, since the pottery is a planter. Also, my final Save the Whales project. It still needs its shiny glaze firing - I’ll do that myself eventually.
My last instructor pointed me to a pottery workshop being held in Aug where I can learn to throw a big (over 10# of clay) piece - so YAY! I’ll be signing up for that soon. I also looked at taking 2 classes in the fall - Color Theory and Advanced Ceramics. 'Cept it’ll cost almost $900. So I won’t be signing up till closer to August. Yikes!
Bernie is crashed on the floor next to me, farting like a Mel Brooks campfire scene! While I was playing in dirt, she went walkabout, but I can’t imagine that giving her gas.
FCD just got home. He got stuck in traffic on the Nice Bridge. Daughter should be along soon. The basement is drying - the dehumidifiers seem to be doing the job. Maybe I won’t have to tile it after all… <fingers crossed>
Next thing we know, you’ll be saying that it’s perfectly OK to buy that frozen fried chicken that comes in a box. HEATHEN! What would your mama say?
I’m full of grumble.
When I bought my new camera, I bought an 8GB card. Massive acres of space. Enough that I can take something like 340 photos in highest resolution and include the “RAW” data for easier Photoshop work. For comparison, my old camera that died could only use 64 meg cards - just enough to hold four pictures on the new camera.
So, I took some pictures, and then popped the SD card into my card reader. Nothing. No errors, no complaints, just nothing. I pull out the card and try an older 2GB card. Two seconds later, it mounts and shows up on the desktop. Drat.
Back to Amazon to order up a new reader that can handle “Class 6” high speed and hign capacity cards. Until it shows up, I have to be satisfied with looking at pictures on the camera’s display.
Looking forward to dinner. I’ve got two racks of beef ribs getting happy with some spices right now, and will be grilling them ever so slowly and tenderly in a couple of hours.
I got myself an mp3 player (Walkman, if you’re interested) today instead of graduating. As I told my family in an email, I don’t think I’ve earned it yet so I’m planning a victory lap around the state after I defend.
I can already tell a definite benefit to my new toy: I want to take lots of long walks so I can listen to music again. I’m going to use my old headphones though. Earbuds hurt.
We have just very tentatively started talking about maybe thinking about asking Attacks Husband if he’d like to possibly look for a house to rent with us. His marriage has collapsed- he was waiting for his wife (who’s Hawaiian) to do the paperwork so he could emigrate to Hawaii, and she’s told him she wants a divorce. One reason he’s been around so much lately- mutual support.
It would mean we’d be able to afford a house, maybe, he wouldn’t have full rent, and we already practically all live together. We’re tossing it around. It’s an idea that’s come up before, and we don’t see many cons, except for possible unforseeable marital strain, or him deciding he hates us.
He’s already here, oh, say, five days out of every seven. We already know that we can do chores and spend twelve-hour periods together for days on end without killing each other.
I’m sure there’s huge flaws I’m not seeing, but I’m… not seeing them.
I was wondering how you were doing, rosie. Hope you’re better soon. Hugs.
And hi kai!!! You know you can stop by here even if you don’t have nice things to say. Hope things are better soon.
I suspect renting a house with Attacks Husband could work well, LiLi. Sorry about his relationship stress, by the way. People live with extended family in a whole lot of the world quite happily. I imagine that being able to choose the extended family you live with gives the situation even better chances for success.
Bummer on the card reader, gotti. At least it won’t be too long before you have the new one.
Hope the tooth troubles are resolved posthaste, snowbunny.
Pretty pics, FCM. I especially like the 3-part planter.
Left work a bit early to go see Star Trek. What a fun movie!
Poor Attacks Husband. Seems to me like you all get along famously, so there’s no reason to expect you wouldn’t suit as housemates… as long as everyone has a little space of their own to go hide when they don’t feel sociable (plus, having an extra person around is never a bad thing when you’ve got an inquisitive kidlet and nature didn’t see fit to provide you with a bonus set of arms to rein him in while doing other stuff).
Had a lovely dinner and martini with the Yuppie Banker. She talked about her latest boy issues, which as usual involve a narcissistic, commitment-phobic, baggage-laden Romeo. I have no idea where she manages to find these lovely specimens, but she really does have a talent for finding handsome men with zero relationship potential. Makes me grateful to no longer have to worry about these sorts of things…
waves to rosie
Carrot, we lost SmartyPants during the last Great Exodus From The Board Over Ed’s Latest Dumbass Move. Twas most disappointing… though I understand she’s posting on one of the splinter boards that sprang up during that little episode.
Housework Fairy has the day off and HRH is being absolutely irritating - combination of head-cold and Terrible Twos[sup]TM[/sup]! Plus, she decided yesterday to toilet-train herself, and now demands to go “toilah” every 5 minutes, primarily so she can wash hands afterwards!
I get the feeling today will be a LOOOOOOOOOONNNNGGGGG day!
When Middlebro was little, he hated going to sleep because the world had the nerve to go on without him and he didn’t want to miss anything. His kids now have the same problem.
Lilbro never had it, I’m not sure whether he was too self-important to recognize things happening without him or he just likes his bed that much. He’s one of those guys who believe with all their heart that anything which took place before their birthdate is of no import whatsoever…
Spaz, I can’t stand earbuds either. I figure out we can’t be the only ones, as They still sell headphones, but all I want is a foam thingee that goes on the ear - too many stores carry only buds or those noise-cancelling, heavy-as-a-toddler monstrosities. LiLi, best wishes on the various domestics situations. Sucks on the divorce thing
Hee. I just got home from the late Star Trek show. Lotsa fun, just don’t think about the plot too hard.
But what might be my favorite bit wasn’t in the movie at all – there was a group of young teenagers there, looked thirteenish, and before it started I heard a discussion of Kirk vs. Picard. (Depends on the situation, IMO. 'Nuff said.) Kids young enough I could be their mom. I am such a nerd, I almost told them they’d made my evening.
Up bright and early. Looks like we had some rain over night, but it wasn’t loud enough to wake me, so there’s that.
We watched the newest *The Day The Earth Stood Still *last night - the one with Keanu. I’m not a huge sci-fi fan, but I am willing to suspend disbelief up to a point. If the story is worth it. This wasn’t. Even **FCD **was not impressed. It was the perfect role for Keanu, tho - never once did he have to change his expression.
The big thing I hated about it was the way the gov’t and military were portrayed - sooooooo stereotypical and soooooooo predictable and sooooooooooooo far from reality. Kathy Bates was a cartoon of a character - too bad, too. I like her. It took all my strength not to keep snarking. What a stoopit movie.
Anyway, dunno what the plans for today are. It appears the rain is pretty much out of the picture, and they’re talking 85° this afternoon. I need to mow the grass and I know **FCD **plans to go to the boat. Daughter has rehearsal for her part in the Va RenFaire, and SIL has work. It’s looking like we may not have to rip up the basement floor after all. Many many towels and 2 dehumidifiers running full time seem to be drying things nicely. We’ll keep them going for a while and maybe be spared. Maybe.
I expect the day will start with breakfast out. Beyond that, we shall see.
Good Mornin’ Y’all! Up and caffienatin’. Need to get a move on. I’m headin’ up to ye olde home towne in a bit to see my mom etal. We’re havin’ a cookout this afternoon. What? That’s what mom wanted for Mother’s Day and it’s easier to do on Saturday. Anywho, after it’s all over I foresee loungin’ around sis’s cee-mint pond whilst beerverages are consumed. Sis lives out next to mom so that’s convenient.
Ok, gotta go purtify and get on the road. Y’all be good! I might try to sneak in a post from mom’s if’n I can.
Morning all. Up, and already fished the pug out of the pool. She’s old and rickety and wasn’t looking where she was going. At least she was swimming and didn’t sink like a stone. Got my heart rate up, though, by golly!
fcm, the original DTESS with Michael Renny was probably just as unbelievable but I think they were aiming at a commentary on the state of the cold war which doesn’t translate well to this day and age.
li-li, just be sure to discuss “house rules” between yourselves beforehand and everybody promise to stick to them.
doggio, Boston must be pouting cause the Magic beat the Celtics last night.
