I’m up too. Didn’t sleep enough, but hope I can get a nap in later.
Need to get some park organizational stuff done. And then there’s laundry to do. It’s not raining right now, but still looks a bit wet. Really need to mow. And will probably prune the crabapples, if I can’t do other gardening.
Apparently I’m off! Husband and kids planned a day of shopping, spa-ing, a night in a hotel (alone! Just me!) and then pick up to a M-day brunch tomorrow.
I’m up! I’m up! I’ve actually been awake for about two hours, but I was trying to sleep. Unfortunately, my back was having none of THAT!
So, I’m up and caffienating.
You have a nice family, Soapy! It sounds like you’ve got a very nice day ahead of you.
I think today we’ll work out in the yard. If the sun doesn’t disappear on us and bring rain, that is.
I have to go to my sis’s house for Mother’s Day tomorrow. My mother, MIL, and my sister’s MIL will be there, with assorted other folks. It’s a MUST do, because my mother, and probably my MIL, would be all “hurt” if we didn’t do something with them.
I’ve NEVER had a Mother’s Day where is was just me, the husband and kids. A day like **Soapy’s **would be divine.
There was quite the thunderstorm this morning, but it seems to have cleared up quite nicely… this does put a damper on my plans to spend the day gardening, though. sulk
Don’t worry, LiLi, we’ll BBQ regardless of weather. The Boy picked up some delicious-looking beef ribs, which we’ll throw into the smoker for a few hours with a dab of BBQ sauce right at the end (I think he and gotti were on the same wavelength last night). Plus there is bacon ice cream in the making.
Soapy, that sounds absolutely wonderful. After the week you’ve had, I think a day of pampering is exactly what’s needed. Enjoy!
My four-legged crankypants just crawled into my lap and rolled herself into a ball. This is a most irregular experience… guess the storm scared her a little bit (either that, or she figures she’s bribing me into sharing some of the bacon that’s thawing on the counter).
Back from running around - I ran by the Amish market, but they just had flowers. So I went to another place and got 'maters and cabbage, followed by a stop around the corner for strawberries. I also filled the gas can. In a little bit, I’m going to go out and mow.
My mother’s day is going to be quiet, but that suits me fine - I always thought it was a silly holiday. I’ll probably go touch up the deck on the boat. My sisters are all going to my mom’s house, but we’ll be there on the 24th, so we’re not going tomorrow. I’ll call Mom somewhere along the line.
G’morning! Actually, I was up earlier and caffeinated, but then napped a bit after I read the paper.
Sounds like a great day for you, Soapy, enjoy! And Mooom, however you want to celebrate your mom-ness is fine. I’ve heard whisperings of breakfast for tomorrow, possibly including pancakes … with molasses for me. laughs Yes, I’m still on my molasses kick! And I doubt anyone else will eat it but me, so … Happy Mother’s Day to Swampy’s Mom, and to all other Moms as well!
Mother’s day was last Sunday, in Spain. Littlebro got Mom a small potted rosebush. I’d gotten her a new computer (the old one managed to freeze up while playing Solitaire) and Middlebro says he’ll give me some money toward a piece of the new computer.
Tomorrow we’re having lunch at Middlebro to celebrate his birthday (it’s next tuesday); Monday, Mom leaves for a week in Barcelona. Tuesday I’ll be having a double movie session :D: Star Trek and Wolverine. Several people in the Scottish project went together on opening day, they told me they missed me… sniff
Quasi-Daughter, Attacks Husband and I went to a church garage sale this morning, after it finished hailing tennis-ball-sized hailstones, and QD got a Cuisinart for $5. I got a bunch of clothes and toys for Nat for $12. I like yard-saling.
We are all chilling prior to involved lunch-making. Nat’s asleep. Thank goodness. Muppet, I’m excited about the ice cream. And the ribs.
Break time! I did all the riding mowing I could - except for the front yard. FCD painted the new hatch boards and they’re drying on the front porch. We don’t need blown debris sticking in the paint. I also hooked up the mulcher vac and dragged it around to the ditches out front and sucked out the accumulated soggy leaves. The mulch has been dumped in the woods and the mower and vac are back where they belong.
After I cool down a bit, I’m going to get out the push mower and mow the ditches and the hill. I was going to ask SIL to do it, but apparently he’s not coming home. I foresee mowing being daughter’s chore this summer, since she’s not planning to get a job. Unless she doesn’t get rehired at school - then she’ll have to find some kind of work.
She whines much about working. This is her first year at her first real job. She isn’t allowed to whine. I can whine if I want - this summer, I hit 35 years with the Feds. I’ve earned my whining card, dammit!!!
Hydration would be good - off to find a refreshing beverage. Or some ice water. Either way.
I watched that last night with Complicated Roommate. He’s a HUGE ST fan and I would probably be one if I tried. I found myself in a strange situation once again watching a movie with him: I had to explain to him that the time-travelling finally worked the way it was supposed to. I went into parallel time-streams and Nimoy’s role in the movie and sounded like more of a geek than he was. He liked it, but he said it has to grow on him. I loved it wholeheartedly, especially Karl Urban’s McCoy. He looked just like DeForest Kelley.
A new roommate moved in today. No internet name for her yet, but she has an Airedale. Zelda likes New Dog. Peter does not. Bobbye Froggye has no opinion because she’s in a cage.
Howdy y’all! Sneakin’ in a quick post from mom’s place. I’s full. Burgers, beer brats, N.O.T. sallit, coleslaw and baked beans. Still have chawklit cake, ‘nanner puddin’ and ice cream to consume. However will I eat it all!
Soapy have a great time! Tell us all about it when you get back!
Gotta go. Time for the Mother’s Day present givin’.
koff koff You’d think with all the rain we’ve had lately that mowing wouldn’t stir up so much dust. koff koff You’d be wrong. But almost all of the mowing is done. SIL did the ditches. I just finished riding around the front lawn. I’ve just got to do one section of hill.
I should probably think about thawing something for supper. Mebbe we’ll just do hot dogs - I’ll get the kid to stop on the way home and get some buns.
koff koff My teeth feel gritty. The ice water isn’t helping much. Stoopit yard work. As soon as I get the last bit mowed, I’m hopping into the shower. All this fresh air and exercise is kicking my butt!!
Howdy, all. I’m still here. Barely. Still working my ass off; it’s been either working or sleeping, pretty much. Not a very exciting life, I fear.
Papa Tigs, however, made a visit to a Delaware casino this morning, just to get away for a while, and came home with a tax slip. Which means he hit a $1200 jackpot, big enough to have to report to the IRS. Aw, shucks. Plus several other assorted Bens that he picked up here and there. I was only able to pry one of them for my own personal spending, but I guess that’s only fair since the rest of it is going to pay bills that I help run up. But I still like a little slush fund money occasionally. I already have the yarn in mind to buy with it – the softest wool I think I have ever felt. It’ll make lovely bed socks, keep the ol’ toes warm in the winter.
Anyway, back to work so I can get some time in the knitting position myself. In addition to the charity hats – which are adding up fast, since a number of other folks have joined in, and thanks to them sending me samples to approve their knitting quality, I’ve been able to send in about 30 hats, only about half knit by me, yay! (although 12 knit by another wonderful person who shocked the crap out of me by sending me this huge package of hats when I was expecting one single one) – anyway, in addition to the hats, I have several unfinished pairs of socks here to get going on, including a pair for a knitalong of Cookie A’s new sock book, which has some easy and some insanely challenging patterns in it. This group on Ravelry is knitting one pair a month, in order, with three substitutions of other Cookie A patterns allowed – which is good, because I think there’s at least one pair that I may have to substitute for because I’m not sure I have the knitting chops to do it, it is that crazy! And I’ve given up on getting the scarves knit for my nieces’ graduations, since on graduated yesterday and the other today, and meantime I’ve got about 3" of one scarf done. But they weren’t expecting them, so I’ll finish them and get them off for Christmas gifts or something. Plus I’ve got a really cool scarf started that I’m just doing because I just love the swirled hexagonal pattern, and another one I want to cast on because it’s really cool mitered diamonds. We won’t discuss the other projects sitting here awaiting their turn.
Anyway, I won’t have any knitting time at all if I don’t get this work done, so back to it!
Got plenty of our own here, thankyouverymuch. So far today, we’ve had torrential downpours and blazing sunshine… at the moment, we’ve got pre-thunderstorm winds blowing through. Fun stuff.
But because we’re crazy like that, we’ve got some beef ribs on the smoker anyways. A little nutty weather isn’t about to stand between me and some BBQ, no sirree!
Done - at least with the outside stuff. And I’m showered, and the critters have been fed, and I’ve got a pound of weenies thawing for when daughter gets home from Ren Faire.
**MamaTigs **- I have 2 hats for you, but I want to knit at least 2 more before sending them along. I’m hoping to get another one done tomorrow.
I’m also just about done with another kidlet afghan for Project Linus. Next afghan will be one for daughter and SIL - she picked out a somewhat complex pattern, so it’ll be a challenge.
We’re under a severe T-storm warning till 7 this evening. Yeah, like we need more rain.
No rush on the hats, Mooooom; I just sent in another batch, so won’t be sending more in for another week at least, probably longer.
I hate to admit it, but one thing I really missed when Rusty was still with us was the ability to enjoy a good thunderstorm. Not the kind that scares you half to death, just some nice thunder and lightning, not too close, not too loud. But any electrical activity within 10 miles would cause Rusty to freak out, poor baby, so for the last eight years we kept an eagle eye on the weather so as to make sure he’d be okay.
I was lying in bed the other night enjoying a nice storm, and I really felt guilty about it. I know I shouldn’t – I know Rusty, given the choice, would NOT have been so afraid of storms – but I still did anyway. I do miss him terribly…but he was not the world’s easiest dog to deal with, poor baby. The world’s sweetest, hands down! But quite challenging when it came to weather, and a few other foibles of his. So I’m going to have to get used to enjoying storms again. And try not to feel guilty in the process.
Back to work. I’ve decided I’m going to finish this transcript tonight and then – gasp! – I’m going to not work tomorrow. On paying work, anyway. I’ve got a pile of laundry and endless quantities of other assorted housework to do, so I’m sure I’ll be busy, but if I can’t take off on Mother’s Day, what’s the point? (And snowbunny, wanna wager on whether I get a call from your brother tomorrow? )
Actually, he called me the other day…and mentioned it. So if he doesn’t call you, I will get in line behind you to kill him, because he remembered earlier this week!
