A Friday The Thirteenth MMP

shoe, I’m so sorry to hear about your unintended trip - I hope you get a chance to rest and decompress.

nellie, I hear you on the pedometer. I once had one so bad it wouldn’t count anything unless I pulled it off my wrist and shook it half to death. My galaxy watch works pretty well, though it’s slipping a bit (probably just a sign of age).

Went to a doctor’s appointment this morning. Apparently all the waddling is paying off. So I promptly grabbed a breakfast sandwich and sweet coffee on my way back, and both were absolutely heavenly (I need to have something to waddle off, after all). Speaking of, I met my friend at 5:30 again this morning; I still think that time is criminal.

Just FYI, @swampbear, today’s Instacart order couldn’t be going more smoothly. Within 15 minutes or so of the order being placed (and I did NOT select Express), he’s just checked out of the store with all the items yesterday’s shopper “couldn’t find”. In my considerable Instacart experience, problems are very much the exception.

Well, crap in a cracker. My mom tested positive for plague. But my sis who lives with her is negative. So far, it’s just runny nose and sneezing, and they just got their second booster last week. Here’s hoping it passes without getting worse.

SIL’s brother is positive, too. He recently flew to Denver and back, so we’re pretty sure that’s what got him.

Looks like Firday the 13th has struck. Dammit.

Howdy all from Portland. Spent a fair amount of time out of internet range, then today was getting of the ship, finding a cab, and boarding and riding AMTRAK to Portland. Group of about 15 of us came along to see the city and ride a sternwheeler boat tomorrow for dinner. Then I have a couple days on my own to knock around the area and then back to Ali-bama on the 17th.

Was a good cruise to interesting places, but never take a cruise on the first sailing after the ship had been docked for months due to COVID. Lots of little problems.

Have not been able to catch up with all the adventures, so yea, boo, hugs, noogies and other displays of affection to all. Hopefully I’ll be able to start catching up next week.

Howdy Y’all! Been a lazy day here at da cave. I swear if we could get away with it, neither of us would ever leave home. We are two grumpy old men who are contented to hermit from the world. Alas, we must venture forth amongst the great unwashed from time to time. We did consume leftovers for sup and clean up after that, so there was some productivity. Now that I have said all that about bein’ a hermit, tomorrow I need to go to the Food Kitty as they have a sale on Diet Poopsie and ham steaks tomorrow only. I also intend to go help with a spiff up the place day over to the church house. We shall mow, trim hedges and that kind of stuff. OYKW may or may not participate as that kind of stuff really does not appeal to him.

Rebo hope your son is able to get rid of her without too much trouble. Mr. Rebo and you need to take care of yourselves, and I am glad you realize that now.

red hope Nelson is not too traumatized from the separation from lovey, poor baby!

Cookie yay for the bday present!

Nellie to put your mind at ease, we accomplished day drinkin’ on the back porch while watchin’ the rain. We love the porch. It’s like bein’ outdoors, but we don’t get wet. Family issues have a way of workin’ out, so don’t worry too much.

shoe you had an event. You need a day off to rest, recuperate, and be entertainment for Monkey.

WetOne I hope your first week of retirement was all you dreamed it would be.

Bumba glad you have a couple of options for sellin’ the old homestead. If the opinions of others matter, I vote for the kids who sound like they would take care of the place and make it a home for themselves.

Die yay for the free chawklit. I am sure you’ll earn major points with the co-irkers for sharin’ it with them.

Nettie yay for the good Instacart experience. I am sure I’d be mostly happy if I tried. Maybe I should quit bein’ such a geezer and give it a shot.

MOOOOOOM sorry about your mom gettin’ the plague. May she be better soonest.

And now this…

< AHEM > CLEARIN’ THROAT < AHEM >

HAAAPPPYYY BIIIRRRTTTHHHDDDAAAYYY TOOOOOO YOUUUUUU!!!
HAAAPPPYYY BIIIRRRTTTHHHDDDAAAYYY TOOOOOO YOUUUUUU!!!
HAAAPPPYYY BIIIRRRTTTHHHDDDAAAYYY DEEEAAARRR CCCOOOKKKIIIEEE!!!
HAAAPPPYYY BIIIRRRTTTHHHDDDAAAYYY TOOOOOO YOUUUUUU!!!

Happy birthday cookie! And yay! on the house sale.

rebo, do you know how old Lola is? The reason that I ask is that Nelson’s father sired another litter with Nelson’s mother’s littermate, born just two weeks after he was (meaning that today is their birthday). Lola looks suspiciously like Uno or Dos from that litter and you live in the same city as Sis does(and all of the pups were born), IIRC. If she’s ~five years old, she may be Nelson’s little sister / cousin. Wouldn’t that be cool? :sunglasses: Nelson

Friday chores are done, dogpark trip made and supper procured from Panera. Tomorrow, I’ll head up to SIL’s, where my nephew is making chicken fajitas on the grill (he’s a fantastic cook). For tonight, I’ll kick back in the studio and work on the project that I began last night.

Today was among the top 5 best Instacart shoppers I’ve ever had the pleasure of drawing. His tip got bumped upward substantially and he got a glowing rating.

Quick heave at work. LP was interviewing all of us in Smalls, the phone thief still is loose. Got my knives back from the sharpener. They’re better than when they cam out of the box.

HAPPY BIRTHDAY cookie!!!

{{{{FairyChat Clan}}}}

Bumba, I’d go with the kids, too.
Rebo, hope you can spring your son from that situation. And Lola is a cutie.

Wifey wanted ‘I don’t know’ for dinner, so I suggested fish tacos and margaritas. And that’s what we had. I had 2 hot wings (brought four home), 2 fish grilled fish tacos, and 2 margaritas. Mi Esposa ate one of her fish tacos and had one margarita. And we both had some chips and salsa. She’s having a Jack Daniel’s and talking about going to bed, and I made myself a ginnintonic. I might watch [i]Wings[i] (1927) tonight.

Don’t touch the monkey!

FCM I hope you all survive the week with the in-laws. Do you have a life jacket that you can preemptively strap onto FiL before he gets anywhere near the boat? I afraid he’ll just fall right into the water whether or not he gets into the boat.

Rebo Rude of them to make Friday a work in the office day. I’m sorry about the kid issues.

Cookie Congrats! Also, Happy Birthday!!!

Happy Firday!

Happy Firday the 13th!

Happy Birthday Cookie!

It was a cloudy 65 degrees at the park this morning.
Noisy too as Barky showed up.
It’s supposed to rain all day today, but no rain yet.

None of our group has shown up all week except for us, Lucy, and Barky and Humpy.
However, now that the mornings are earlier and warmer, all the not so nice people are coming out. Wednesday a guy came with two unneutered pitties. He stayed on the small dog side all day blasting music. Yesterday some guy came with a Keeshond? or maybe a Chow mix? The poor thing was all matted, had dried poop in its fur, almost got into a fight with Barky, and the owner never once looked up from his phone. Today, some poor man got pulled down the hill and landed on his ass. His dog was totally out of control, and I have no idea why anybody walks down that hill anyway. He had to wait for somebody to leave because his dog is too aggressive to be in the park with other dogs.

My mother got her test results back and now she has spots on her hips as well as her spine. The oncologist wants her to get another PET Scan but her insurance company won’t pay for it. Her doctor says it’s not necessary because if it is cancer, the chemo will kill it.

Lola is a cutie.
I always tell people to talk to a lawyer before letting your spouse know you are thinking of divorce. Find out what you can expect, what it will cost, get everything lined up and ready to go before they even have a hint of what you are thinking.
As my father used to say, ‘Do unto others before they do unto you’.

Hope you are feeling better soon Shoe

Sorry for the rough week Jane the Cane

We never did get any rain today.
;

It’s BS like this that makes me hope I get to see who’s burning in HELL. I hope people at the dog park figure out hownto play nicely with othersl

Another day spent playing in the dirt. I got all the new plants potted and planted four more tomatoes in the raised bed.

Happy Birthday Cookie.

Sari so sorry your mother is going through that. Fucking insurance. That’s insane.

Here’s hoping FCM Mother has a very mild case of the plague. It’s concerning when one is that old. Hopefully her vaccines will protect her.

Not much else happening here at Chez Butters.

I sure hope that next week is better for everyone, this week has seemed to be kinda sucky.

The plumber was here and we now have water outside again. I was kinda tired of carrying buckets of water. I wasn’t fully aware that we have 6 trees until I was carrying water for them. I figured they were a little stressed by the local drought so hubs turned the water on for an hour and I thought I would give them all some food. One of the trees in the front was getting NO water and the drippers on the other trees out there were just d r i p p i n g. As I was going in to complain, I noticed that one of the dripper hoses on the front hedges was split (the sun is hard on plastics out here) so all the hedge was getting all of the water.

So I went in and complained, LOL.

This leads me to a question I wanted to ask you guys…

My BFF’s husband is a professional plumber and works down in the Valley on large builds. He makes pretty good money and they have never mentioned him wanting to do side work. Hubs used to be in the auto repair business and he always resented it when his friends asked him to spend his weekends working on their vehicles.

A couple of years ago, one of our toilets started leaking between the floor and subfloor. We could and did shut the water off, but needed to get a plumber out to pull the toilet so the flooring could dry out. Hubs refused to let me ask Herc to stop by on his way home because that would be taking advantage of our friendship. Hubs couldn’t get anyone else to come out that day. I texted my BFF to get her thoughts and Herc stopped on his way home from work and spent less than 5 minutes pulling the toilet.
This did not spark joy in hub’s life.

So, now BFF got a little snippy at me when she learned that hubs was hurting because he was under the sink (she knows he’s too old for that shit) working on the faucet and is now crabbing at me because the plumber will be coming out on Monday to change our ball valves to gate valves, so we are going to be paying too much money to someone else for something Herc could do in half an hour while I’m showing her what I’m doing on her piece.

So, what say you guys? While I’m tempted to save the hundreds of dollars hubs will be paying the plumber, I can also see hub’s side.

Last Saturday night I took a fall when leaving a film festival at a local university. I was beside my car and reached down to pick up my keys. I overbalanced and went down. It didn’t seem too bad, and I went onto the grass, so it wasn’t hard. But I had trouble getting up again. Other folks leaving helped me up and I felt shaken but otherwise okay. But starting Wednesday, when I got out of bed, my left shoulder area has been aching. I’ve taken some painkillers but they arent doing much. If I sit up straight I don’t feel much, but anytime I have to reach, or twist, or bend it’s been hurting. No stabbing pain, I’m sure nothing is broken or I would have hurt sooner. Probably like a bad sprain. The most uncomfortable thing is laying down in bed, and then getting up. At least it’s my left and not my right. Kind of sinister of me, huh? I just hope it goes away soonest.

Dang! That must have been so scary. You probably twisted your back and pulled something. Can you take a hot bath?

It might not hurt to call your doctor, but I’m guessing you are right about it being a sprain. But, I’m here to tell you that sprains take quite a while to heal up.

Jane the Cane, I get where your hubs is coming from, but i think maybe he doesn’t recognize the differences between his situation when he was a mechanic and Herc’s situation now. You and your DH aren’t just “people”; you’re dear to your BFF and Herc. They want to help, don’t want your hubs hurting himself, and might even be a little miffed that you’d go to someone else for simple (to Herc, anyway) plumbing issues. You two do kindnesses for them, plus of course they know you wouldn’t take advantage of their friendship.

But IMHO, the person who could best persuade your husband of this is Herc. Any chance of that?

Baker, ouch. I hope the injury heals fast.

Up, caffeinated, and sheveled. Off to heave. It’s my Firday!

I’d say call Herc, and maybe offer him some cash to do it. Save money, time, and your Hub’s back. Plus paying would mollify Hubs a bit about taking care of the friendship

Good Mornin’ Y’all! Up and caffeinatin’. YAWN ‘Tis 62 Amurrkin out and mostly cloudy (partly moony?) with a predicted high of 88 and cloudy for the day. I am up early cause I want to be at Food Kitteh when they open at seven a.m. so’s I can get the stuff, then schlep it back to da cave, and then head over to the church house to participate in spiff up the grounds day. I say day, but really it’ll all be done around noon if enough people show up and judjin’ by who I already know is comin’, we will be done by then, Nappage and major sloth shall follow that. Any need to feed today will be via forage as we have plenty of sammich makin’s, chips, and such.

Jane The Cane since it appears Herc would be more than willin’ to come over I say call him. I see where hubs is comin’ from, but this does not seem to be a case of just callin’ up the plumber friend and askin’ a favor, and also y’all do not have a history of doin’ this. I agree with doggio’s idea of offerin’ him some cash for his expertise. Herc may very well refuse the offer, but at least you will have made the offer.

red I do believe Nelson manages to just keep gettin’ cuter! ::skritches:: for him from Unca Swampy.

Now I need more caffeine and to feed rumbly tummy. Then, onward into the midst of the great unwashed! Rah.

Happy Sattidy Y’all!

I’m going to have to have a come-to-Jesus meeting with spousal unit. And our daughter, too. They, without the courtesy of even talking to me, made plans for all of us, including the grands, to go out on the boat on Tuesday after school. Here’s the cast of characters:

FIL - you all know his situation.
MIL - virtually blind.
FCD - again, you know his situation between the spinal stuff, the knees, and the neuropathy
SIL - recovering from knee surgery - yesterday he stepped wrong and hurt the knee
Roxy and Toby - adorable, but less than worthless on the boat, as they’ll require constant attention.
Daughter and me - the only more or less physically whole individuals, and neither of us are exactly in great shape.

FIL will want to go up to the flying bridge. MIL will be hovering around him, but she’ll need watching. Both kids need watching. SIL is not a boater, so even if his knee was perfect, he’s close to worthless as a deck hand. And on top of all that, FCD and I have operated this boat exactly once. And he’s been futzing in the engine room for several weeks - what if something down there is just a little off? We get out in the river and start experiencing problems - with all these people aboard, we’ll have a mess trying to take up the floor to reach the engine room.

So now I have to be the bad guy again, and it pisses me off. The two of them did the same thing before we were going to bring the boat across from Oxford - thankfully, the weather killed that plan, but I wasn’t included in that discussion either. But I can’t count on the weather this time. I’ve got to get FCD somewhere private and talk to him. I know his folks really want to see the boat and they love going out on the water, but to me this whole plan is bat-crap crazy. We shall see how it goes…

Other than that, Daughter and Tobester are coming over today. She’s going to bake cupcakes (N.O.C.), then start setting up the basement. SIL is going to work for a short day, and Roxy is going to her other grandmother’s to get her hair gussied up for tomorrow. Then the two of them will join us for supper. Not sure what I’m going to make. And I need to push the vacuum around up here - the area rug in the living room is far too furry.

Deep, cleansing breaths…

Happy Saturday, I guess.
