Afternoon, mumpers! It’s 18c/64F and partly cloudy today. Weather app says “Can you wear shorts today? Do whatever the fuck you want. I don’t care”…thus shorts may have to be worn when I go out again.
Busy day so far, bootcamp and spin classes at the gym, then a stop at the pet store on the way back home for some of Shadow’s urinary food, and three large bags of cat litter. Unloaded that at home, then had a shower and a restorative cup of tea. Next on the list is lunch and errands in town, back home for a breather, then I have to go over to my friends’ house and feed the ferrets.
Jane the Cane I agree with the vote to call Herc. I see Hubs’ point of view but clearly if BFF is getting cranky because you’re not asking Herc to help out on something very simple for him, you risk damaging the friendship. You could always offer them drinks/dinner in return, if Herc won’t take money for the work.
Baker ouch! Hope you’re feeling better soon.
Mooom sorry to hear you’ve got plague in the family. We have been exceptionally lucky since we’ve flown several times and still managed to avoid the plague. We are both vacc’d and boosted, plus we’re maskers and careful who we mix with as much as possible. Guess that means we are just lucky.
Sorry to hear you’ll be having that conversation with FCD and Daughter too, but it doesn’t sound like they’ve really thought of the consequences there, and exactly how difficult it could get. Hopefully you can get FCD to see reason without having to batter him too hard.
It’s currently 45 degrees with an expected high somewhere around the mid-sixties and rain.
Adam will be arriving here around 9:00 am. I just need to make a final round of making sure there is nothing in his reach that could be broken or harm him.
Jane, I’d say call Herc and offer to pay him. On the other hand, I can understand wanting a stranger to do it because if something goes wrong there isn’t any awkwardness when calling the plumber back to fix it. Just my thoughts.
Wow, FCM, I’d be pissed too. Nope, that needs to be nipped in the bud and is definitely not cool.
Metal Mouse, glad you’re on dry land again. Well, dry is relative as I’m sure you’ll see water falling from the sky too. This has been a very wet and dreary May.
Well, I suppose I better finish my coffee and get that last bit of work done, plus set up the baby gate. I don’t want Adam getting to the stairs.
I took Thursday off work so I could sleep in and do some cramming before the exam, which was scheduled to start at 2pm. I’d have 4 hours to answer 180 questions, with two 10-minute breaks (one after 60 questions, the other after 120 questions). The testing center asks folks to arrive a half hour early, and I wound up getting there at 1:20. They were able to let me start the exam early, and I finished it with about an hour to spare – including time spent reviewing a handful of my answers in the first two sections, and all of my answers in the last section. The “leftover” time made me a little nervous, but I reminded myself that I do tend to read a little faster than the average bear (Not Our Swampy). I honestly wasn’t sure whether I was going to pass, but luckily I got the results right away: not only did I pass, I scored “above target” in all areas (the minimum for passing was “target”)! I was so relieved!
Afterwards, I celebrated my “above targets” by going to a nearby Target. I hadn’t been inside of a Target in 2+ years, but there are two food items I wanted to try that are apparently only available there (and one seemed to only be available in-store). I figured I might also look at clothes and maybe get some new sheets, but once I was in the store I realized that I was tired and really just wanted to go home. So I got the food items, plus a few protein bars I hadn’t seen in either of the grocery stores near me, and was home by 6pm. I sent quick notes to my boss and the guy who ran the exam prep course I took in March, and for the rest of the night I did nothing more intellectually strenuous than watch Chicago Fire.
I’ve had this certification either in mind or as a goal for a few years now, and the exam has been hanging over my head since the end of March (when the aforementioned course ended). I’m so glad it’s finally done.
Wow.
OMG is that what he’s singing?! I always thought it was “tonight”!
Heaved. It rained, so I had to drag “Princess Pretty Paws” out to do his business. A load of laundry is in the dryer. Nap time!
Counterpoint: chug a pint of Scotch, gather them together, and shake each one and scream " WHAT THE HELL IS WRONG WITH YOU?!?"
It will work just as well as Plan A, but you’ll feel better.
Home fries, bacon, and over-easy eggs for brekky. There were five rashers in the parcel, there was Bonus Bacon. Goo and Abbey helped me eat it. They were both next to me on the couch. Together! Abbey had her ears back much of the time, but she didn’t run away and she ate bacon. Goo is usally very polite about taking bacon, but she almost accidentally bit my finger once.
Well, if you explain that hubby really doesn’t want to take advantage, and Herc decides to show up anyway, then that’s on him. Perhaps you could insist on re-paying them with dinner or something to soothe hubby? Note that I’m making the assumption that BFF is the middle person here, but adjust as needed.
If you can, I think you should get it checked out. At a minimum, PT could help with the shoulder injury and with standing up from the floor. If there is something more going on, then it’s better to know sooner rather than later. Poor Butters walked around for weeks with a break.
Good luck. You’re right, it needs to be done. It sounds bananas coo-coo pants and completely unsafe.
Why can’t you set your monkey free?
Woo-hoo!
Until later. Later won’t be as fun.
'Beamette is off with my mom to a quilting workshop. Daughter isn’t staying for most of it. She’s meeting friends for lunch and going to library.
My shingles vaccine seems to be kicking my butt today, so I shall be a sloth. I plan to read, nap, watch movies and eat popcorn. Dinner shall be sole, rice, and mixed veggies.
It was a cloudy and muggy 66 degrees at the park this morning.
It’s supposed to rain all day, but I haven’t seen any rain yet.
A new dog came to the park, but my two scared him away. I wish people would just open the gate and walk in. Instead, they stand at the gate, which has the dogs on either side getting excited, and the longer they stand there, the more excited they get. Just as well he went to the other side as we could see he was not neutered and our lovely Urban has an issue with unneutered dogs.
Lucy’s dad said we should get a big banner that says no unneutered dogs allowed. It’s in the list of rules that nobody pays attention to.
It doesn’t bother me so much; it depends on the dog’s behavior. I’ve seen some really nice well trained unneutered males that didn’t cause any issues.
I say call Herc and let him decide. He’s a grown man, he can make his own decisions.
Hope you are feeling better soon Cupcakes.
It’s bad enough when people make plans for you without asking first (my mother is good at that), but when the plans are unfeasible, you need to put your foot down.
I feel for you FCM
I need to get busy around here, even though all I really want to do is nap.
Yoshi feels that the neighbors are up to no good. The gardener is on one side, and the kids from the house on the back are hanging over the fence talking to him. They think it’s funny when he barks.
Sari I’d like to take Yoshi to a dog park. He’s a big goof, and I think he’d love playing. He’s a pandemic pup though, and I’m not sure how he’ll be with other dogs. I’ll probably be one of the other side of the fence lurkers.
I think the National Weather Service has given up and just copy-pastes the same forecast every day, then skips out the door to go play in the sunshine. Yet another cool, cloudy day with a chance of rain. (“Chance of” means “Of course it’s going to rain, you ninny.”)
Today’s excitement is washing the bed linens and going for a long walk. I haven’t decided in which direction yet.
Mooooom, good luck with addressing the troops. Let us know how it goes.
Oopsie, congrats on passing the test with flying colors! Very impressive!
Baker, are you feeling any better today?
Sari, I had no idea dogs could tell the difference between neutered and un-neutered dogs, and I’ve had dogs. So interesting! Thanks for enlightening me.
flyboy, I forgot to thank you for the pedometer app recommendation. I’m definitely switching.
What I did was take Ripple by the park and if there were other people there, I left. When we were there by ourselves, I walked with him around the park so he got comfortable with the space. Then I would go in when there were only a few dogs there. At first, he would hide under the bench where I was sitting, but eventually he came out to play.
The first time he got knocked on his ass, he came running to hide under me. The next time he got knocked down, he looked at me, I told him he was okay, and he went back to playing.
Now he is a very confident, friendly dog. It’s been good for him.
Go when it’s not busy, walk in the gate with confidence, and get him off leash as soon as possible. Dogs on a leash will fight faster than dogs off leash.
He would probably love it, and if you get into a routine, he’ll make friends. It’s a lot easier when they make friends, they are much more forgiving of bad behavior.
Nellie, I have no idea how they know. I suspect they can smell the difference. This is recent with Urban, and I think he got attacked by an unneutered male which started his behavior. Urban is such a good boy, big Airedale who could easily kill other dogs, and he puts up with so much nonsense from ours. Echo’s favorite thing is to run up behind him and bite him in the ass. He’ll lay down and let puppies climb all over him, he’s great with small dogs. He’s had other dogs attack him and he will play fight back. However, he can pick out an unneutered male from across the park, and he gets nasty really fast.
Congrats Ooopsie!
I haven’t gotten much done today, and it’s already after 5.
I washed my jacket in the washer. It was supposed to be hand washed only, but it is too heavy for that. I hope it survives. I put a towel in with it and washed it on light load.
I had to wash it though, a sprite (the drink, not the creature) exploded all over it.
I think it might be safe to wash my winter coat, hat, and gloves now.
I hate to tempt the weather.
I may have mentioned this in the past, but MIL seems to think she knows better than the doctors who prescribe meds for her and FIL. She won’t follow instructions. For example, FIL is taking something for his Parkinson’s - 10 tablets a day. She thought that was too much, so she cut his dosage… until he started to have bad reactions. So she dosed him as the doctor prescribed, and SURPRISE!!! - FIL is doing better. She refuses to take a full course of antibiotics, instead saving pills just in case she needs them later. Makes me crazy, but she’s not my mother so I just don’t say anything.
Daughter has the basement mostly ready for the party. She’ll be back early tomorrow to finish frosting and decorating. SIL will bring the kids later, so I’ll be able to help her finish up. Toby kept me really busy today - even when I got him to nap, he was sleeping on me and I didn’t dare try to move him. They’ve gone home now, so chillage shall ensue. Whew!
I haven’t had a chance to talk to FCD, but I will.
Sorry to hear about your mom, Moooooom. I hope that she has the lightest of cases. As far as the outing goes, have you considered just saying that you won’t go? FCD and your daughter may have to rethink heading out with the babbies, old folks and the other gimp if they’re the ICE.
jane the cane, what doggio said re Herc.
Yay on the cert oopsie!
sunny, I don’t have much to add to sari’s advice, given that Nelson has been going since his puppy shots were complete. I especially agree about the leash thing. Most dog parks are double gated and I take Nelson’s leash off between gates so’s that he can’t get out, but once I open the interior one, he’s off leash to run.
Keep stayin’ alive shoe.
Went up to my SIL’s today. My nephew made some terrific chicken fajitas for lunch and we met my niece and her fella for coffee this afternoon. I did get caught in construction traffic right outside of my town (SIL lives ~1 hour away with good traffic) and it took 40 minutes to go 6 miles on I24 before I could get into the right lane to take an exit for surface streets. I’m glad that I don’t have to deal with Nashville traffic on a daily basis anymore.
I want to thank those who were concerned about my fall. I didn’t end up going to the doctor though. I woke up this morning still feeling pain, but something odd happened. The building I live in had a garden day, to spread mulch in planting areas. I knew I couldn’t do much but went out and was able to help do a little raking and sidewalk sweeping. It made me tired and achy, but after I went back inside and rested, snoozing a little more, I noticed that although I can still feel it, it’s not as bad. Maybe I needed to work the muscles and stretch. I can breathe in fully now without that stabby feeling, When I go to bed tonight I’ll take some more painkillers, nad hopefully in the morning I’ll be even better.
I’m so glad you are feeling better @Baker maybe use your long handled duster to get the upper corners in your place tomorrow. I understand you need to work different muscles on different days.
I like this approach very much, but not being a fan of confrontation, I would just “slip” on the stairs and “twist my back” so badly that I wouldn’t be able to attend. The totally unrealistic dreams of boating will slip down the steps too because they need you, FCM.
Thank you all so much for your input about the plumbing and plumber friend. You guys really helped me find the words to try to tell hubs that he could be hurting our friends.
We didn’t have to have that discussion because our friends got tired of us not letting them help.
If I’m not understandable, it’s because Angel and Herk showed up on our doorstep wanting to sit on our porch and smoke weed and drink beer. Herk is high energy without beer, get a couple in him and he turns into a steamroller.
Angel wanted the misters working cause it was too hot without them and Herk (who had coincidentally just happened to drive his gas hog work truck home which he never does) started cutting pipes and wrenching and taping and all the stuff that plumbers do. He even made sure to yell when he was sure that we could get a good look at his plumber’s crack.
Hubs wanted to pay Herk so Herk wanted to pay hubs for the beer hubs is brewing for the next clean up party and for the needlework piece I’m doing for Angel. In Herk’s words “You can’t have it both ways, dude.”
We had pizza and wished there was a Taco Bell anywhere close.
