Pasadena would be fun, too, Java. It’s a really charming little part of town and I think he would enjoy it. When will you know your schedule for work? We have no preference on any of those nights, so whichever one works best for you so that you can join us is the one we’ll pick.

I usually don’t know my work schedule for the week until the Friday before. I know for sure Thursday is a definite out for me (our busiest night, getting ready for the weekend), and I usually get either Tuesday/Wednesday/Friday off, but it depends on the parties that are being catered during the week.
Yeah, I’m wondering what’s happened to all the L.A. Dopers, too. But, don’t worry, the exact same thing happened when I tried to put together a holiday dopefest last year–barely anyone responded. You still have a month before your Great Dane shows up, so we’ll just keep this thread afloat and hope more people respond.
I’ve more or less on my own decided to leave the choice of venue to my beautiful Shayna, as it’s pretty hard to compare the pros & cons of diverse watering holes at this long (way, way, way too long :() distance.
So - ehm - consider this thread bumped, I’d love to see you. And if Johnny L.A: and I get too deep into motorcycle discussions, please throw something at us.

Spiny: It may have been a bit extravagent, but I had the Seca II detailed yesterday. It’s a pretty bike, even with over 67,000 miles on it!
Pricciar said he would take me to the next Doper meeting because both me and him had to stay home during the last dopefest . So, put me in as a maybe while I go huntdown Pat. Where is this all happening?

I apoligize for my lack of posting to this thread, I love a dopefest, and I try to be among the first to respond when one is nearby. Thanks Mercutio for letting me know about this one.
I am way up for a dopefest. I do have one request. Can we have it on Wednesday or Thursday, my Mondays and Tuesdays are usually packed.
I put my vote in for Tu Tu Tango. I had a good time we were there last time. Pretty waitresses, good food and good drinks. Oh, and I vote for the Universal City Tu Tu. Driving all the way down to Orange County on a weeknight. That makes my heart all aquiver.

As for the dates, Javamaven said she usually gets Tuesdays and/or Wednesdays off work; Mercutio can do any day but Monday (making Tuesday or Wednesday work for him) and Patrick prefers either Wednesday or Thursday, so it looks like the common day is Wednesday the 25th. Everybody up for that? Johnny, can you make it on Wednesday? It just wouldn’t be a proper Dopefest without your timbers there to be shivered (and especially without you there to make me my pirate ship!).
As for the location, I’m shying away a bit from Orange County because it may take me as much as 2 hours to get there from the South Bay, depending on traffic conditions (it’s an hour with NO traffic!). Universal City puts me on the 405, which also sucks. Pasadena - hmmmmm. I dunno. Maybe Santa Monica and the 3rd Street Promenade is the best alternative? I can avoid the freeways if we go there. What are the chances anyone else will be able to get there easily?

I’d like to go out and see all yer pretty faces again.
But I’m going to be out on that weekend. The Confurence (A Furry convention) is going to be held in Burbank from the 19th to the 22nd. And I will of course be at work the following Monday, like a good little cog in the giant corporate machine.
If you search through the archives on this board, you can probably find out more about Furry, in case any of you are curious. I recall at least 2 threads about it from recent memory. Hey–it might be kinda cool if I saw any of you there.

I would love to meet your Great Dane, and I’m a Californian (heehee it still makes me giggle when I say that)… but alas, LA is a haul from San Jose during the week. Right? I’m told it’s about 6 hours. Still not sure on my NorCal/SoCal geography…

A friend of mine from WA came down yesterday. We went to Ye Olde King’s Head in Santa Monica last night. Mmmmmm! Love those fish’n’chips! If we have the dopefest there, I’ll have to get the bangers, which are also good. Two of us for dinner, one drink each, tax, tip: $36.00. We had the “queen size” fish’n’chips ($9.95). Couldn’t finish it. King size is $3.00 more, but there’s enough to share.
I gotta put a vote in for the King’s Head. I love good Fish and Chips, and they are difficult to find.

IMO, the fish’n’chips at the King’s Head are the best I’ve had anywhere. The batter is very crunchy and full of air holes – the better to soak up the malt vinegar – and the fish is firm and flaky. The difference between the king size and the queen size is that there are two pieces of fish in the former and one in the latter. You may think that one piece of fish is enough, but it’s plenty for me; especially with the thick-cut chips. If we don’t have the dopefest there, you should get there on your own one day anyway.
My concern, though, is since this is a pub we’re talking about, and if Mercutio & Monster are going to go… then we shall have minors in our midst. Is there going to be a problem at King’s Head with that?
Me and Monster will press our faces against the window and give you all big puppy dog eyes as we freeze and starvation starts to take place.
