Attn: St. Louis Dopers... Spiny Norman & I Will Be In Town...

Hi there, all you good people from my home town!

Spiny Norman (Hi Honey!) and I will be in St. Louis from Friday, March 29th through Monday, April 1st and we thought it might be fun to meet the St. Louis Dopers. We haven’t made any plans yet for that weekend, so at the moment, we’re available either Friday, Saturday or Sunday nights.

So is anyone up for a gathering?

I really appreciate your consideration in avoiding stepping on my penis - Spiny Norman

Well, I’m in. I’ll be sure to ask for the 30th off from work, but as a transplant to the area, I’ll let someone else do the planning for the night. Is there anyplace or anything you’d like to do or show Spiny Norman here, Shayna?

Yay - we get to meet Tequila Mockingbird!

I hadn’t really thought about what do to, specifically, other than just have drinks and/or dinner. I have no idea how spread out the St. Louie folks are and what would be the most convenient location for everyone, but we don’t mind driving no matter where we have it. Perhaps we could find a cool jazz club in Soulard? Or if that’s too far for some people, we could pick a more central location, like Westport Plaza? Maybe we could have dinner and then go to the Funnybone? I dunno - we’re open to any and all suggestions.

I will be in Saint Louis from the 27th for a week, due to the fact that my grandmother is having heart valve surgery, which has yet to be scheduled, but will be sometime during the week of the 24th… I can’t guarantee anything, but I may be able to make something, and I’d certainly be happy to go. In other news, St. Louis Dopers, I’ve been accepted to Webster University, so I’ll be in town for the next 4 years and you won’t be able to get rid of me HA HA HA!..

At any rate, e-mail me to let me know what you come up with (I’ll check back here, too.)

Also, just to let you guys know… My grandmother’s house (where I’ll be staying) is in Brentwood, and I can practically walk to the Galleria. I will, however, also be able to drive where needed, I think. My grandma has a cable modem which she needs me to set up, so I should have an internet connection there shortly after I arrive and I’ll be checking my e-mail.

NOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!! That’s almost to the day when i leave town for good!! D’oh!!!

Oh, thank goodness.

My first reaction to the thread title was, "All the great suggestions, and they decide to honeymoon in St. Louis???

One more hijack, and y’all can have your thread back:

Is it just me, or are grandmothers just not the same as they used to be?

Don’t worry, it’s not like she actually knows how to use it yet. But maybe I’ll change that, who knows.

(Bump? What bump? This isn’t a bump.)

Anyway, yeah, St. Louis Dopers? Where are you…?

But this is. Have I made that much of an ass of myself ? :frowning:

S. Norman

I want to come! Unfortunately, I don’t think I’m up to traveling that far in my current state and wouldn’t be much fun even if I could. :frowning:

Have fun for me, and you know, nothing is stopping you from making a short (okay it’s a long ass way) detour in Memphis…

I’ll still be on the AT&T payroll then, meaning I’ll still be working 4pm-midnight Mon-Fri. So as long as it’s on a Saturday or Sunday I should be able to make it.

I suggest y’all try a visit to The Big Bang (www.the bigbangbar.com). It’s the dueling piano, sing along bar that i work at.

Last time I went to a dueling piano sing along type place, there wasn’t much in the way of conversation among the people in the group, because if you were caught not singing along, then they’d stop the show and everyone has a good laugh at your expense.

Maybe it’s just me, but I’d like to be able to actually converse with some my fellow Dopers.

Unless you’re all really uninteresting, then maybe the sing along piano place isn’t that bad of an idea…

Where in St. Louis are you, Crunchy, just out of curiosity? South County, West County…?

My grandma has been scheduled for surgery either next Thursday or Friday, so I can’t make any guarantees still, but I will try to make it and probably will be able to if it’s held in the evening. Another thing to remember is that since I’m 18, I won’t be able to go to any bars (and I’d prefer a less smoky place if that’s okay with everyone else). Any other STL Dopers you can think of offhand who might be able to come, Crunchy?

North County, close to i-270 and Lindbergh

Oh yes, a less smokey place. I haven’t smoked in 4 days now, so anyone going to this thing, do not let me bum a smoke off you!

And the only St Louis Dopers I can think of, I haven’t seen post here much anymore. There’s um… Palandine, Miss B Haven, kunilou, and the people who showed up at the last one who’s name I can’t remember.

Bean Counter, where are you? Would like to see ya again, along with your lovely wife, and hopefully sit closer so I might actually be able to have a conversation with you.

Oh yeah…bump.

Should we just pick a time and place (I thought Westport Plaza was a good starting point) for the 30th and hope more people show up?

Sorry, I was away wallowing in shame.

Neither myself nor the missus will be able to make it. She’s the choir director at church and there’s “big-a-doin’s” that night since it’s Holy Saturday. There would be no way we could really meet for anything and get back to “East County” in time. :frowning:

Bumpity-bump. C’mon, is it really just going to be the four of us?

My grandma is now scheduled to have surgery on Thursday morning. Assuming all goes well, I should still be able to make it. I will let you know if that changes. Keep in touch with me via e-mail if I lose track of this thread and we make final plans.

I would be interested next weekend. I don’t think my social calendar will be as busy as it was last time. I live near the airport and would prefer an unsmokey place if possible.

Bump before I leave town tomorrow morning…

Anyone else? If not, then whoever wants to organize this thing, please e-mail me at jonkleinow@macconnect.com (Comcast webmail is down for “improvements,” like so much of their stuff at the moment). I’ll be checking my e-mail once I’m in St. Louis and will keep in touch. One caveat: I’ll have to drive my grandmother’s car, so there’s no guarantee I’ll have transportation, but I will certainly try to be there. Let me know when it will be and I’ll let you know if I can make it after I get up there.
