A Halloweenie MMP

Happy Weenie Day!

Howdy, haze! Good to hear from you. Now, don’t be a tease, and let us know the latest saga on your much-more-interesting-than-ours life!

I just finished the coding for my OP for Monday and sent it off to my home e-mail…which is a good thing because I kept dreaming about it over and over last night and then the document somehow translated into some kind of chocolate cake and how I was going to cut it into exactly the number of pieces needed.

There will be a pah-teh here at work this afternoon at 4 and then I must toodle home, corral the goggies, figure out what to order for din-din, and then wait on the little [del]curtain climbers[/del] dears who are TOT. Yay me!

Is it quit-o-clock yet?

Tupug

What? Wives are easy to get rid of.

I’m waiting to see if we’re going to get that big order. My boss is gone so I have to do some of the things she’d usually do. And one of the printers refuses to print black so I’m cleaning that. sigh I’m rather hoping we don’t get it, because I don’t want to try to print 50 pages on three printers at 700dpi (four if I can get Oblique working) in enough time for them to get stuck to the badges and shipped today.

Take my wife, please.
Ba-dah ching…

I hate Photobucket.

Dinner last night was Cuban rice. I tell you this 'cause it is sooooo good! I don’t follow that recipe though, 'cause I refuse to put MSG in anything, and a whole stick of butter is a lot, and I prefer Crimini mushrooms to white ones, and I put more ham, and a few other things having to do with technique, but otherwise it’s the same.
For any who are curious, here’s my version:*

                            Cuban Rice

Recipe By : Bumbazine, from a recipe on Food TV
Serving Size : 4 Preparation Time ::45
Categories : Beef & Pork One-Pot Company Specials
Main Dishes

Amount Measure Ingredient – Preparation Method

16 Ounces peas
1 Cup Rice, Uncooked – long grain white
8 Ounces mushrooms, white or crimini – sliced
1/2 Pound smoked ham – cut into small cubes
2 Medium yellow onions – diced
1/2 Stick butter or margarine – divided
2 Tablespoons extra-virgin olive oil – optional
2 Tablespoons sugar
1 Teaspoon red pepper flakes
1 Tablespoon Seasoned Salt
14 Ounces chicken broth – 1 can
1/2 Teaspoon chili powder
salt & pepper to taste
garlic powder to taste

Please be advised, ALL of the measurements in this recipe are approximate. I often add more ham, or mushrooms, or whatever, than called for depending on my mood and what I have available.

Start a cup of long grain white rice cooking in 1 can of chicken broth plus a half can of water.
Meanwhile chop up your ham, onions and mushrooms and set aside.
Put a package of green peas on to cook in 1/4- 1/2 cup water.
Put the half stick of butter or margarine in a large pot and melt it over medium-high heat.
Toss in the mushroom slices and saute until cooked.
Now, add the onions, seasoning with some salt and pepper. Depending on the amount of liquid you have, you may add more butter or margarine, or olive oil, at this point. Saute the onions until they are translucent.
When the onions are ready, add the cubed ham, sugar, pepper flakes, chili powder, and any other seasoning(s).
When the rice has sucked up most of it’s liquids but is still not quite done, dump the peas, water and all, into the rice to complete cooking.
Meanwhile, turn the pot with the mushrooms, etc, down to low and let things cook together a bit and taste, adding more seasonings as you desire.
When everything is hotted up nicely, dump the (by now cooked) rice and peas into the pot and mix together. Taste again and adjust seasonings as desired. *

I had more, but I forgot.

No, I can’t. :frowning: But that never stops me…

Hey Haze!!

Sweet and Sour sauce STINKS!!! How can anyone stand that smell? Yech.

Welcome home!

And… it appears that Lunch has found fresh meat…

Bumba- rice dish sounds good!

I made theseskull cupcakes and brought them to work today. Even though KT thinks they look like they belong on Cake Wrecks, I think they’re cute. And my coworkers aren’t complaining. :stuck_out_tongue:

Aw, they are cute!

Howdy Y’all! Home from work. Birthday boy, AKA JoeDawg, daddy and partner are due shortly. Ol’ y’all know who will be here around fiveish. Soon I shall light the grill and grill burgers. MMMMMMMM… Oh and there’s a cooler full of iced down beerverages on the back porch. I need to go sample to ensure that it’s properly chilled beerverages.

We had cupcakes at work. YAY!

Ok, I need to go put the baked beans in the oven.

Later Y’all!

Hey, at least I’m doing the “full disclosure” bit…

Home, TGIF.

I had 2 meetings this afternoon, then I decided I needed to leave an hour early. I spent that hour getting foodstuffs, and just a little bit ago, I finished stowing it all. Along with the usual groceries, I started laying in supplies for our various holiday needs. I got canned punkin, but I forgot the evaporated milk. Grrrrr. Still, there’s time.

Today was the decorated door contest at work - we got FOUR FREEKIN’ ALL HANDS EMAILS about it. It strikes me as being terribly childish and unprofessional for adults in a non-retail, non-food-service, non-education environment to dress up and decorate for holidays. People bitch about not being able to meet deadlines, but they have time to waste hanging skeletons around the office. Can’t we just give Halloween back to the kids? I don’t care what people do at home, but, dammit, we’re supposed to be professionals supporting the troops at war. <deep cleansing breaths deep cleansing breaths> Much as I like my job, I hate some aspects of it.

Anyway, I escaped early and got a necessary chore done. The newlyweds will be going out tonight, so my sweetie and I can hide in the dark. I need a break. I had another bad night and I’m tired.

Bah humbug.

It’s just as well I didn’t get around to making the editable PDF. The big boss now wants me to redesign it, but he hasn’t given me any sort of idea of what he wants, besides ‘less busy’ sigh We have a bunch of variations on this flyer, plus month specific ones for the next year. ARGH.

I had the first post in the thread and haven’t been back since. I haven’t read or anything, so Rosie’s Sig to all. I feel like a bad Mumper.

Halloween was always kind of a big deal for me. I always had great fun getting dressed up and seeing people as a kid. With the exception of one year in high school, when a good friend wanted me to go trick-or-treating with her, I stopped going when I was 10. After that, I passed out candy in costume from our screened in front porch. Trick-or-treating usually ended about 6 or 7, so then we always went to see all of my Grandparents, so that they could all see us in our costumes. One of my Grandma’s gave out pencils every year, another gave out nickles, and the other always had little bags of candy.

Work was crazy busy Monday and Tuesday. We have a big push to get clients converted from an old reporting system to a new one, but the guy that made the schedule is a jackass and has no frickin’ clue what we have to do to validate each of these reports. So, the time alloted on his stinkin’ schedule is underestimated by more than 1/3. Which leaves me hard pressed to get it all done in addition to my regular job, or as it’s been lately, it makes it difficult to get my real job done for all of the doing this crap.

Anyway, Wed. I got sick. So, I left early Wed. and stayed home Thurs. and Fri. Being sick is a sucky way to have a long weekend, I must say. Hawkeyeop has been great though. He makes sure I eat when I otherwise might not. He even went to the grocery store yesterday just to get some ice cream for my poor ravaged throat.

So, I’m working on the next Mafia game, themed around the SDMB. It’s fun to watch it all come together. It’s Hawkeyeop’s brain-child, so I really hope it goes well for him.

For those few of you who were wondering how we decorated public bathrooms:*
I managed to slop a few pics up onto Photobucket. For some reason, that site seems to fight me, or else I’m really getting senile, but anyway;

Our sign on the wall in the Ladies room. They gotta know who we are, right?
Our display in the Ladies room. we gave away little wrapped 1/6 bars of our soap, and provided a few lotions and a room spray for their use.
Our banner on the wall in the Mens room. We use that banner for flea markets and such.
Our display in the Mens room. You’ll notice a fused-glass candle bridge and a slumped wine bottle on the table. We’ve branched out into fused glass chotchkas. Soap - fused glass. They go together, right?

*FWIW, the bathrooms aren’t all that public. The Chamber rents the old National Guard armory building from Parks and Rec for the auction. The rest of the time it’s rented for various things like gymnastics classes and stuff like that. Anyway, the bathrooms aren’t too disreputable.

Our plans for tonight consist of going to dinner at the new Asian Bistro, and then coming home and hiding out upstairs doing projects. We used to give out candy, but neither one of us gets up out of our chairs gracefully any more, and we bought candy to be given out (by someone else) at the store we sell soap and glass out of, (we sell real estate out of a real office), so we’re opting out of Halloween at home this year. Also, as Wifey is quick to point out, we don’t need the left over candy. Plusalso, I would always buy the good chocolate stuff, 'cause I wanted good leftovers, and she would want to buy whatever was cheapest. So we’re avoiding that arguement.

I’ve done nothing else constructive today except going to the store for supplies. I should get a real job.

Bumba I call no fair! It looks like the ladies got to get some free Soapy Bear swag and the men got bupkis. No fair! :stuck_out_tongue:

Burgers good! Baked beans good! Beer even better!

Oh and JoeDawg says…

woefjmeofjweorptjqweopfjas;l

I think that’s chee-hoo-ah-hoo-ah for “Howdy!”

And I’d re-write that as:
It strikes me as being terribly childish and unprofessional for adults in a non-retail, non-food-service, non-education environment to dress up and decorate for holidays. People bitch about not being able to meet deadlines, but they have time to waste hanging skeletons around the office, starting in late September. Seriously, the workgroup one aisle over has had Halloween crap hanging off the cubes and from the ceiling since late September  Can’t we just give Halloween back to the kids? I don’t care what people do at home, but, dammit, we’re supposed to be professionals keeping our customers’ finances secure at one of the largest banks in the country.

Back from not-quite-as-Bad-Chinese. We had to run to Lowe’s for a new blade for the chopsaw.

The little strip shopping center where the restaurant is was doing ToT - there were some really cute kids toddling around. When we pulled into our neighborhood, we only saw 2 or 3 houses with lights on and no kids.

I’m in sweats, chillin’. I was going to make tollhouse cookies - I may still do that tonight…

**gotti **- glad I’m not the only one…

I’m here in TVLand, feeling kind of crabby.

Recipe added. Sounds yum.

Nice displays, Bumba.

And cute cupcakes, taxi.

Home. Tired.

Had a day that started with “where’d my conference room go?” when I tried to go to my first and only meeting of the day  and ended with me cleaning out lots of stuff in preparation for moving.

Note to movers: when the sign on the door says not to move furniture without someone’s permission, it means “don’t move furniture without someone’s permission.” I did get a major apology from the person who is coordinating the move (we think her boss may have ok’d moving stuff earlier than scheduled). Also, they restored my conference room so that we could finish working on the project that is due on Monday, the day before we’re scheduled to move. I’m still  about the amount of time I had to waste on moving junk. (My key logistics person was out today, so I couldn’t delegate the drama.)

Went to good Chinese buffet for lunch, which cheered me up quite a bit.

I’ve had dinner and am going to veg for a while. Maybe a nice hot rum toddy or something will help with that.

Back later.
