A Hammers and Chisels and Knees: Oh My! MMP (With Bonus Kitty Goodness!)

Man, I love TMI threads!

On a side note, I have arrived in Minneapolis, and holy mother of Jay-zus, it is cold. We leave in a couple of days to embark upon the Equality Ride, and I’m so excited.

But I’m so tired. Oh, you guys.

Heff 'n Roo - Pshh. I’m Canadian. I sunbathe in -30C weather.

What?

Oh, okay. I was born here, but I’m not a real Canadian. I don’t watch hockey, almost never say “Eh,” and I freakin’ hate cold weather. And it don’t get much colder than -30C around here. (Mind you, that’s -30C with the wind chill, which means if you can get someplace where the howling wind is blocked it’s not quite so bad, but if you’re directly in the path of it, Og help you, you’ll be piddling ice cubes – once your organs thaw, that is.)

Truth be known, I think I was born a displaced Californian.

PuppyLackey - What I should have said was, “Oh damnit, was that this week? I’m embarrassed to say that I completely forgot about it and I’ve already booked my week up with other killings. Tell you what, I’ve got Wednesday of next week free, would that be convenient for you? Say, noonish? For the inconvenience, I’ll throw in a free killing of the person of your choice, okay? Wonderful.”

Ah, l’esprit d’escalier. I’ve got to work on thinking on my feet (or rather, my arse) more.

Woohoo! Home time in 15. Phones have calmed down somewhat and I’m planning on staying in this evening, on account o’ selective body part cryogenics is not a science I want to pioneer.

PPPBBBBBTHHTHIBBBBIIITTTT!!! RIBBIT! :stuck_out_tongue: :stuck_out_tongue:

Sean do fill us in. [del]Nosy[/del] Inquiring cool kids wanna know.

Supper tonight shall be grilled hamburgers and french fries. I got lettuce and tomato and real cheese for the burgers so it’s a complete and balanced meal.

I had to get stuff notarized for a job I applied for with the state of Georgia. Dang form even asked if I’ve ever had a traffic ticket over thirty-five dollars! Also if I am or ever have been a member of any organization whose purpose was/is the overthrow of the government of the United States or the state of Georgia. I mean last year I was part of a group who were upset over property tax hikes in Lee County but I never advocated the overthrow of the Lee County Board of Commissioners [sub]The scallawags![/sub]. Hopefully that won’t count against me.

I’ve been mildly productive today. I did laundry, and bought groceries. I put some plastic sheeting on the windows to keep the drafts out. Then I took a long nap. Oh, I bought toilet paper, because I was down to 23 rolls(Hi swampy!) I am also ripping my CDs to my PC. My Sinatra CD already gave out, so I need to back these puppies up.

Mork, don’t worry, SCL an I will pick up your hockey slack.

Faruiza, welcome (back?)!

::waves:: Welcome to MN!!

Dinner has done been et, and it was good. I fried some onions and N.O.T. lumps with a little garlic salt and pepper, and I cooked a ham steak with some pineapple chunks on it. Yummerrific! And I’m stuffed. We shall see how the tummy ick handles it.

**FCD ** brought me home a gallon of white semigloss - pardon me while I swoon… So Weds, I should be able to start painting the crown and base molding we bought. Then mebbe on Friday we can install it and be done with the room.

Methinks I will drug myself tonight. I need to sleep thru. I don’t need to be missing more work. 'Cause I’m a dedicated professional and all that.

Stop snickering!

Tomorrow I go back to Hell, oops, work. I had such fun this week on campus and here. Made for a life of leisure, I am.

I need to find a new job as well, one that will last me a year, and then (of course) the library job of my dreams will just open up and I’ll snatch it, right?
Plus, FYI, I wear white shoes all year round. Just sayin’…

Off to do nothing and enjoy that, too.

So I had an interesting morning. I went to the public library downtown to borrow a book that wasn’t available at school, only to be greeted by this sign:

Chicago Public Libraries are closed in honor of Pulaski Day.

My reaction:  WHO THE F-CK IS PULASKI AND WHY DOES HE GET A HOLIDAY?!

I actually said this out loud, in the middle of the street, to the amusment of the passers-by I’m sure. Turns out he was some general in the Revolutionary War. Why does his day have to be TODAY of all days?! GAAAAAAAH. What a way to start off Monday morning.

Have a paper to finish by tomorrow, so off to do work.

 Happy Pulaski Day, Hank!

And, of course, Happy Birthday, olives! Those sound like excellent birthday presents.

Hope the doctor finds that everythings fine, BT.

I’d just like to echo swampy’s request that you dish, Sean. We demand details!

I think there’s an exception clause for those who wear white shoes for professional reasons, rigs. I don’t have white stockings or shoes, so I don’t have to worry. Unless running shoes count. Mine are mostly white.

I’m having beef noodle soup for dinner. Lots of noodles. A few frozen peas (cuz it was really hot) and a bit of cheese. Hitting the spot nicely.

I have to go to a meeting at church momentarily.

Back later.

GT

I’m home and thawing.

So I get in the elevator of my building at P1. Elevator goes up to G. A couple of people get on and the door closes. One guy is holding a box of something sealed in cellophane, which he begins unwrapping. Once unwrapped, he opens the box and then begins handing out sticks of throat lozenges to everyone on the elevator. Loblaws “Exact” store-brand, evidently. Honey lemon. Had I not seen him unwrap a factory-sealed box I would have regarded them as highly suspect. As it is I still find it weird. I had my iPod on, so I don’t know if he offered any explanation as to his sudden and impulsive cough drop distribution.

Then I get in, put the coffees in the microwave (because during the short trip between Tim Horton’s and home it has already been rendered luke warm by the bitter wind) and remove my coat, and MindWife shows me what may be the oddest computer accessory I’ve seen in a long time: The Thermaltake Xray Cigarette Lighter and Beverage Tray. No, really. Forget your CD/DVD-ROM drive – now you can have a real cup holder, and it has a cigarette lighter which doubles as 12V DC power source to boot!

:dubious:

It naturally follows then that a mod be made for this: Hook a floor-model water cooler up to your computer’s water cooling block (for those with water-cooled PCs, that is), which will have a pass-through tube out to a spigot dremeled into the top of your case and bada-bing, bada-boom! Drink dispenser to go with that cup holder.

Now all you need is a 5.25" drive-bay toaster oven and you’ll be all set!

Mindude I suggest you get right to work on that. It’ll make you bajillions!

Doggio thank Og you remembered to buy toilet paper. Why, you were practically out!

White shoes worn by those in the medical profession are perfectly ok year round. So are white stockings. White sneaks are ok, too, I think. However, no white dress shoes from Labor Day to Easter. It’s a rule. A wart prevention rule, no less.

Supper was good. It got et and then ACBG left cause he’s got some paperwork stuff to get done, poor thing. So, I had me a bubble bath. It’s kinda cool outside and I feel all toasty warm after the bath. I was gonna go hot tub some but then decided I wanted bubbles instead.

That’s just evil. My cigarette breaks are what tear me away from my computer half the time. God knows how long I’d be sitting in front of the screen with that thing attached.

I spent most of the day asleep. My throat is a little scratchy so I am going to see the doc tomorrow.

Re: white after Labor Day: When I was a wee bairn, my mom was very active in the Temple Sisterhood. She told me of one mid-September meeting - it was still very hot and humid, so my mom wore a summer dress and white shoes that matched. The other ladies were all in their wool skirts and cashmere twin sets with the obligatory string of pearls. And obviously very uncomfortable, but they gave Mom a hard time about her wardrobe anyway.

I’m going to edit my pics, so I’ll be back after that.

We had our BC Board meeting yesterday, and I came up with a wonderful idea. So today when I went down to take Connor his road bag, I issued a challenge from the Ex. Board of the Booster Club to the front office staff of the Cottonmouths: a tug of war at Fan Fest. Coach was laughing all over his face when he heard it. We will see if they accept.

Tigs, those knee pictures made me wince. I hope you are healing properly and have lots of good drugs. Loved the kitty pics, tho!

Got some awful news Saturday night - a friend of mine’s former roommate and best friend hit an IED in Iraq. He was the only one in his squad who survived and is very badly burned. The docs in Germany are trying to get him stable enough to fly him back to the States. I so hate this war…

I am hungry so I need to go prowl…

Oops! Am I red-faced now. :smack:

Scroll down on this page to “snack selections C” and look at “wet lemon” or “sweet sour lemon”

Me too! There was a sale today. I’m now back up to my normal level of 72 rolls.

SCL, if your friend ends up in the DC area, let me know; maybe we can be of assistance. He’ll probably go to Texas, though; the big burn center is at Brook in San Antonio. They do a wonderful job. (And so, contrary to most of the nastiness you’ve been hearing about Walter Reed, do the folks there, too! It’s not fair to blame them for budget cuts while their workload was increasing quintuplefold!)

I have had a truly boring day. Papa Tigs got home before dark for the first time in – checks calendar – ten days, to the dogs’ delight, so he loaded 'em up in the car and me, too, and we headed for…the emergency room. See, he decided I needed to have the knee looked at today.

After 2+ hours and I hadn’t even made it out of the waiting room, we turned around and came home. In the meantime, he’d dropped the dogs off at home for their supper – human supper is being served as we speak, Amish chicken pot pie. Quick, easy, delicious, and nutritious for those of us with no appetites. Which would be me.

I just looove ERs.

But I have lured TroubleAgain to the MMP for kitty pics! I knew that would work on at least one new [del]sucker[/del] witty and intelligent Doper. TA, if you’re new, donations of chocolate go to FCM and donations of the beerverage variety go to Swampy. Although I think right now, being the sickest one here, I deserve chocolate to help me get well. Right? Right? :: crickets :: Oh well, it was worth a try.

Our own wonderful, brilliant, beautiful Jahdra is sending me the Misti Alpaca Lace yarn in color #5018 (cranberry) so I can finish my wrap! All hail Jahdra!

And now I’m off to watch mindless TV and go to bed. Nighty night, all!

Friday morning, in the drenching rains, I ran my errands and went to my salon. By the time I was finished there, the rain had mostly stopped, and the sun was desparately trying to shine.
By the time I got to Brooklyn to pick Cousin up. While I waited, I saw a really cool photo waiting to happen: a guy selling cotton candy to the school kids as they exited. The first harbinger of spring.
We got to the hotel with very little traffic and began unwinding. I played a little Scrabble before my poker game. I played the whole night - the game broke up around 4am and I was ahead $3.75. Woo AND hoo!
Saturday, except for attending a talk on Finding the Real King Arthur, was more of the same (chilling, drinking, laughing), only this time, to kill time before poker, I played Blokus (yes, boys, the gal to my right is very hot. Sit down. All I know about her is that she lives in NJ). I played poker until abot 2:30, and ended up another $6 up. It’s unusual for me to be ahead for the weekend so I am very happy.
Sunday morning, Cousin snapped this shot of me in my pillow fortress.
Then we said our goodbyes and headed home. We stopped for lunch at The Outback, I dropped her off and was home by 6:30.
I will now take questions.

I LOVE that t-shirt that says “I would check-raise my own grandmother.” And that girl sitting next to you IS hot. Sounds like you had an awesome weekend, rosie!

The front of the “check-raise” t-shirt has a logo from the WPT Poker Boot Camp where that fellow spent a weekend last year. He still can’t deal worth shritte ;). We (the boys and I) also give him lots of grief for being a professional who plays with amatuers (us). We can be merciless.
