Business model imploding? You know something I don’t?

Nah, it’s more like I’m just fed up to here with all the idiots I have to work with. Pat the HR Moron sent my time card back to me because I didn’t show that I was five minutes late conming in on Thursday. My boss had already signed it, and passed it on. I didn’t change it, and instead said that since he had already signed it, she had to take it up with him. But instead of telling her to go away and stop bothering us over stupid little things, he had me change my time card and resubmit it with the five minutes missing.

What’s wrong with that, you may ask? I’M A FRIGGIN’ SALARIED EMPLOYEE, not paid by the hour!!! I often work before or past my nominal starting/stopping time without a fuss, and for a year every Tuesady morning I came in a half-hour early to sit in on the weekly production meeting with no extra pay. (Roundboy, in his quest to try to be my boss, does that now.) So yeah, I’m annoyed at the HR drone, but even more annoyed that I didn’t get any back-up for this.

I started typing this an hour ago. It’;s all pretty minor. There are other little things too. I guess I’m overreacting somewhat. I do know that I’m appreciated for what I do, and if I left Technical Thingies, they’d be really messed up for awhile. So maybe I’m just venting.

Actually, Sean, that request made you a de facto hourly employee. Salaried employees don’t account for their time in hourly increments, much less minutes, only worked/didn’t work that day. Anything more than that removes the employee’s exempt status.

Yeah, that’s pretty messed up being a salaried employee and having to account for your time for such pointless nitpicky stuff. The company I work for has both types of employees. The folks in the warehouse are hourly and have to punch in and out. Those of us up front are salaried. We don’t have time cards and if we’re five minutes late or come in ten minutes early, no one bats an eye. The jobs all get done and that’s what matters. I don’t even complain that I seem to be the only one who actually takes the 30-minute-lunch literally. Mainly because if it becomes necessary I know I can take a 40 or 50 minute lunch where necessary and no one else can complain either. :slight_smile:

Swampy - Ah, but there’s one important element missing from the Ultimate Case Mod: A beer fridge. Gotta work that in there somehow.

Haze - I can speak from experience when I say that smoking at the computer pretty much assures that my chair retains a permanent cast of my butt.

So, a Happy Belated Birthday to our Olives! I’m glad you enjoyed your day.

On the white thingy, at one time I had many shoes, in many colors and was a strict “no white after Labor Day or before Easter” kind of gal. Turns out this is mostly an East Coast quirk thing now. Nowadays, I don’t own any white shoes, so it doesn’t matter anyway. As for white pants, nuh-uh, no way. Dirt is literally magnetically attracted to me if wear those, so I don’t even buy them now.

I’m sorry to hear you’ve got Teh Ick, FCM. I hope you get better soon.

Mama Tigs, I hope your knee starts improving soon, and I really hope you don’t have an infection. As to the whole Walter Reed debacle, you and I both know that none of the good stuff is ever published, only the bad. Funding is an issue MEDCOM wide, so, not only does leadership at the hospital bear a little blame, so does CONGRESS. If the MEDCENs were adequately funded, there wouldn’t have been nearly the issues there are. Okay, off my soapbox. This is, of course, merely my own PERSONAL opinion, and nothing official.

I guess we’re going to one of the casinos around here with some of our friends on Saturday. I’m all “meh” about it. I love hanging out with these friends, but I hate, hate, hate throwing money away in machines. It just ain’t my thing. I’m sure we’ll have fun, all the same.

In other news, my son seems to have a little of the ick too. I hope he’s feeling better in the morning.

I guess I should toss my next load of clothes in the dryer now.

Busguy, I remember those chocolates and always liked them too. Are you sure those were the real thing, imported and all? Maybe they were just old. Chocolate does kind of “go bad” if it’s been frozen or it’s old. Or, maybe as you said, your tastes have changed. I know there are lots of things I enjoyed when I was younger that I don’t really like now. Weird, huh?

Off to finish the laundry.

Morning all! Not much going on here today…went home early yesterday to get the cats back from the moggery. The lady who runs the place said they were very well behaved and seemed to get along fine together. On the plus side, Shadow didn’t feel the need to poo in his carrier on the way home.

So last night I faffed about at home doing very little really - paid my credit card bill, got some stuff ready for the bank, filled out the acceptance for my car insurance quote, started thinking about travel insurance for our trip to Vegas and that was about it.

I’ve got an ordinary boring day at work and then I’m off tomorrow 'cos I’m having what Olives had the other day and it involves spending the day in Brummyjam shopping with my doting parent and then going out in the evening with friends for beerverages.

Yup, I think I can live with that. I also have Friday off this week 'cos I’ve got a paper to write that has to be in the mail to my tutor on Monday. After that, there’s only one more paper to write and I’m done with this studying malarky.

Hope the Sickies are better and BioTigs is leaping around, full of the joys of spring!

Up and caffienating here. Have been for a while. Paper has also been read. Ima go to the unemployment office for some kinda orientation thingy this morning. I’m sure everything they have to say I already know, but ya does what ya gots to sometimes.

Nothing to report from Zelertonia. I’m just popping in to say hi. My ‘weekend’ starts tomorrow and I’m finally getting to see ‘Hot Fuzz’ which is supposed to be pretty funny. I hope there’s no zombies in this one though. I have taken against zombies in a big way ever since I made up a silly story about them at the end of last year. Now I’m a zombie-fearing zelerton. The NerdMobile is sick and in the shop. While I was making the morning commute yesterday, I got a "Service Engine’ light that I couldn’t explain, but I suspect it has something to do with a waaaaaaaay overdue oil change, or dirty air filter. Anyway, it’s in the auto ER today, and I had to drive the Family Truckster instead.

Sean, a long string of expletives and personal abuse directed to stooopid HR drones always helps. Trust me on this.

That’s, like, freakishly cold for this time of year in these parts, which should be nuzzling the underside of the freezing mark. Um, hey … Arctic Circle? Keep this crap to yourself, k?

At least I have a baseboard heater, which works well enough to keep it comfortable in here. (We have central heating, but the wall that separates my office from my supervisor’s is a load-bearing firewall, so the duct work can’t pass through it.)

Okay, my fingers I think have mostly thawed, so time to get back to that thing that keeps interrupting my Dope-surfing.

I took welbywife shooting sporting clays this weekend for the first time. She wouldn’t listen to me about how to couch the shotgun and wound up with a big old bruise on her shoulder. She also hit a lot of targets and had a lot of fun. We’re thinking we might make a weekly thing of it.

Next week, starting on Wednesday, I’m free of family for two weeks. TWO WEEKS! The wife and brats are traveling back to the homeland, which means that I’m gonna be eating steak and sitting around in my skivvies for two whole weeks. Ought to be nice.

I realise you’re quite breathless with anticipation, Ellen but you’ll have to wait a long time! We’re not coming over until November and I won’t know until probably April exactly what the holiday plans are. So far I’ve been talked into it by a couple of friends and I’ve parted with the deposit…and I know where I’m staying…but that’s about it!

GT, yes I am having one of Those Days tomorrow, my doting parent’s coming over and we’re going for some serious retail therapy.

Ya know, my mother always insisted that the rule was Labor Day to Memorial Day. Which never made sense to me. How the heck are you supposed to wear a pretty Easter dress with BLACK SHOES??? Even as a wee lass I knew that was a big fashion no-no. But Mom insisted that there were to be no white shoes before Memorial Day. Gah!

I just received news that a friend of mine - I haven’t talked to him in years, but during my earlier years of undergrad we were gaming buddies and also went out drinking a lot, and we have a lot of mutual friends - died last night. He fell off a staircase while drunk. It still hasn’t hit me yet… but damn. What a terrible way to go. Everyone is still in shock. There’s nothing to be done now but I’ve never wished I was back in Seoul so much. Damn. Talk about the unexpected.

Morning, all. I am caffeinated, medicated, and miserable. I slept marginally better last night – which is to say not very damn much but any microscopic improvement is worth it right now. But getting into bed last night? Was so insanely painful – just getting into bed, for heaven’s sake! – that it left me shaking and moaning and crying, and begging Emily, who had come over to snuggle as a good Therapy Cat must, to purr my pain away. She did her best, but it still took half an hour before it settled down to just awful again. I’m seeing the doctor at 1:00 today, so hopefully we can find out what’s causing this new extra level of pain. Even 3 days after surgery, it didn’t hurt this much! :mad:

I’m really sorry to hear about your friend, Haze. What a sad way to end a life!

And the amazing thing? In the hearing yesterday, one of the Congresspeople admitted just that, that they’re as much to blame as anyone else! Can you believe it? A Congressperson admitting responsibility for anything? We’re still in shock, I tells you! :eek:

Other than the doctor visit, I am doing nothing today but staying in and staying WARM. Our temp right now is 25F (that’s -4C), with a wind chill of 4F (-15C). It is COLD out there! It’s only supposed to last for a couple of days, but we may even get snow tomorrow. I am definitely less than pleased. Then hopefully spring will return and STAY this time. Aargh!
