A Happy Memorial Day Or It's Just Another Moanday MMP

I’m so sorry Flyboy.

Good Mornin’ Y’all! Up and caffeinatin’. YAWN ‘Tis 72 Amurrkin out and clear with a predicted high of 90 and maybe rain for the day. Or not. TWPTB are in willy-nilly mode apparently. At some point today I must betake myself over to the church house to deal with some church janitor Junior Warden duties. I won’t do that until later in the afternoon as trash will be picked up sometime today there and one of the tasks is to haul the biiiiiiiiiiig trash cans (all three of ‘em were full with the last remnants of yahd sale stuff) back to where they live durin’ the week. Today’s other task shall involve makin’ chikin sallit. Chikins are simmerin’ away as I post. Bonus is that there will be some good chikin broth to freeze. Sup shall be chikin sallit with sliced maters and cukes. YUM!

{{{Flyboy and Mrs. LA}}} may you find peace and comfort in the comin’ days. Tonka had a great life. He was loved, safe, cared for, and no doubt his every whim was catered to.

shoe congrats on the gig offer! IMO it wouldn’t hurt to check out the second place, especially if you are not officially official with the first place yet. Just nice to know you’re wanted, right?

Sony hope everything went OK with Pixel at the vet.

Now I need more caffeine and to feed rumbly tummy. Then, onward into the day! Rah.

Happy Firday Y’all!

{{{flyboy}}} - doing the right thing can really suck sometimes. Cling to the memories!

I made an executive dinner decision - there’s a Domino’s really close to my daughter’s house. I’ll order supper there and have her pick it up on her way here with the RoxStar. The kid loves pizza and FCD likes their wings, so it’ll work out well.

I need to tidy up the guest room, aka Roxy’s Room. Mostly, I need to put a mattress protector on, just in case of overnight leakage. Then there are all the toys she’s spread thither and yon in there. It won’t be a major chore, but it’s still gotta be done. And I think I’ll finish one section of the basement ceiling today. Then I can do the rest this weekend. Slowly but surely, I’m getting that space livable.

I also have a couple of bags for the thrift store - clothes and wool/wool blend yarn that I won’t use. (if I can’t toss it in the washer and dryer, I don’t want to deal with it.) And I think there are still a few things in the garage that I should donate. Yep, busy day ahead.

Happy Firday!!

Good morning everyone! I had another sleepless night, nonetheless, I managed to stay in bed until 5:15 this morning.

Flyboy, I am very sorry about Tonka.

Yesterday was my last working day as a Management and Program Analyst. On Monday, I have to change my signature block to Associate Enterprise Director. The new title was originally Associate Executive Director, but they changed the title when they changed performance expectations. No matter, the responsibilities are the same. Once I’ve held the position for six months, I will also have to step in as Acting State Director whenever he or she is gone. Right now a new Director hasn’t been appointed (presidential appointment), so one of the Program Managers is acting at the moment. I am hoping we’ll have a new Director by the end of summer, but it’s hard to say what will happen. We really haven’t heard anything. I also will need to order new business cards, but I think I’ll wait for a week or so on that.

I also have to go into the office on Monday since I actually need to physically move my stuff from a cube to an actual office. I have my choice of two different offices, so I need to decide which one I want. Since I usually arrive super early when I commute to the office, I’ll have time to decide which one works best for me and is the least noisy. I also need to assess some equipment and supply needs, as well as start inventorying the records and junk in the warehouse so I can get quotes for hauling away junk. Some of these plans were things I had plans to do prior to getting the new gig, but now I have to move on these projects. The year moved quickly, and COVID restrictions really put a kink the plans we had set forth last fall. The last quarter is almost here and I need to show how I plan to spend the remaining budget so it doesn’t get swept. I also have to get quotes for moving furniture and 30 something file cabinets from an office on the Olympic Penninsula. No one is there anymore and we don’t have plans to replace the person who resigned last fall. So much to do, so little time.

My son-in-law is coming down some time this morning to pick up our weight bench and all the weights. I’m not sure what time he’ll be here, but I’ll have to hop into the shower in a bit so I’m ready for when he does arrive. This kind of puts a kink in my plans for getting to the nursery and the hardware store early this morning since I don’t know his planned arrival time. My husband is supposed to help my son-in-law dismantle the weight bench (it’s kind of big) and help carry everything downstairs, but he slept worse than me, so I’m not sure if he’ll even be up when my son-in-law arrives.

I am tossing around the idea of buying a new outfit or two, but when I plan such excursions, I can never find anything I like, so I’ll play it by ear.

I think it’s supposed to be cooler today, but then again, yesterday was supposed to be much cooler and it warmed up to 80 degrees at my house. Right now, it’s cool 48 degrees with some high clouds.

Oh, Flyboy and Mrs. LA, I’m so very sorry. Losing a pet is losing a family member and friend. Tonka was such a beautiful boy and so very well loved.

Meeting a friend for a “nature hike” this morning, which is a shorter phrase than “excuse to smoke a joint outside” and also sounds nicer.

It’ll be good to chat things over with her.

Then interviewing at Dispo #2 later in the afternoon.
Once I’d calmed down, I realized this was business as usual in most industries, that I haven’t done a damn thing wrong, and that I do have to look out for myself - nobody else will, ultimately.

In your copious free time :upside_down_face: can you explain the difference between an “Enterprise” Director and an “Executive” Director, associate or otherwise?

{{ huggzz }} to Flyboy and Mrs. L.A. as they face an unhappy morning without a certain someone’s presence.
We’re all hurting with y’all.

The guest room/Roxy’s room is the tidiest it’s been in ages! The mattress protector was a challenge - I had a double size, but the bed is a queen. However, it’s got a memory foam topper, and the protector fit over that well enough. So the bed is made and ready for possible leakage. I also put all her toys away and took off the electric blanket - it’s in the washer right now.

And I grabbed one of the LED night lights from the basement. Last time she slept over, Roxy freaked out because the room was pitch dark. Now she’ll have a nice little glow beside the bed.

As soon as I can toss the electric blanket from the washer to the dryer, I’m going to head to the thrift store. I plan to check there periodically for babby clothes, since my daughter had gotten rid of all of Roxy’s newborn stuff. Plus she’s having a boy, and I’m pretty sure it’d traumatize him to see photos of himself as an infant in pink, ruffly, frilly stuff. :open_mouth: Altho when my daughter was little, many of her thrift store garments were boy’s clothes - yeah, like t-shirts and jeans are anything more than generic…

I’ll also check to see if they have a pack-and-play or something similar. The crib will go to their house, but I’ll need someplace for Tobias to nap when I’m watching him. And the pack-and-play we bought for Roxy lives at SIL’s mom’s house. At least I hope it still does. Roxy hasn’t needed it for ages.

I may have changed my mind about painting today. But, as I often say, indecision is the key to flexibility!

Look for cute night lights! I’ve seen a bunch at Wal-Mart and the hardware store, that have pretty designs … unicorns, moon & stars, that kind of thing.

Today marks the start of summer for overlykids. It feels celebratory, but we’re not going anywhere or doing anything particularly special for several weeks. Still, I can sleep in until 6:30 a.m. every morning and don’t have to pack lunch for anyone for more than a week! Also, the neighborhood pool is open and I get to hang with the moms while our kids swim since all us adults are vaccinated. My sad, pasty ass cannot wait for some pool wine (aka cheap wine in a can) and chatter, even though I don’t really participate 'cause I’m awful at small talk so usually wind up just listening.

I’m headed to the office this afternoon to pick up my stuff. I am now a “flex” employee, which means I no longer have a permanent seat at the office and they’re demolishing my cube to make way for flex workspaces, which is code for really long tables with lots of outlets and monitors.

Any outing that’s not related to errands or medical appointments now feels like some sort of field trip I have to prepare for. I have to keep reminding myself that I don’t need snacks for this, and I’m not going to be idle long enough to knit for an hour, so I don’t need that either (holdover from when mom was in the hospital). But I do need to buy wine in a can on the way back for later on tonight. Or cokes. Or something that’s not water or coffee.

Morning all. Weather is a warm 80F already and not a drop of rain today, so will try and get outside for a bit (if nothing else, need to drop off a couple of bills and do some banking).

talky, let us know how that “flex” thing goes, I never worked in that type of office and I’m curious how it works out.

taters, whatever they decide to call it, congrats again for the promotion. And with great power comes…I’m sure everything will work out just fine.

flyboy, I’m sure you just have $7,000 just sitting around…something tells me this isn’t the first time… Just do your grieving and be well.

OK, need to get some sustenance and be about the day. All y’all take care.

I scored 8 onesies at a buck each - some were Carter’s! Just hope he’s not a huge babby! And I got Roxy a pair of jeans and a couple of t-shirts. All for just over $11!! YAY!!

This afternoon, I’m going to get a lesson on doing Roxy’s hair. And I’m getting my own supplies to keep her coif tamed! I won’t be doing the fancy braids, but I think I can handle the little poofs.

I looked up Tobias on wiki - in Yiddish, it’s Tevye! He’ll star in Fiddler on the Roof!! And it’s also the name of a genus of crap spiders.

And now you know.

Did Smalls, then over to Irregs, then ran missorts. Took Gordie out for a walk, he finally pooped. And went off on the terrier from 540. I swear the neighbors must refer to me as “the quiet guy with the furry psychopath”.

Nightlights, or Lucky Charms?

Enjoy RoxyTime, Moooommmmm! Does she have her own coaster set for her
room?

One manages suits, and one manages Red Shirts.

But congrats on the promotion, Taters!

Delightful morning here. Got up, let Cinnamon out to do his doggie thing, jumped in the shower, sheveled, etc, then when leaving the house, there was water on the utility room floor. Hmmm did I throw something in the recycling bin that had water in it? Nope, the water heater sprung a leak. So kill the water and gas to it, go find a hose and empty the thing. So much for doing any furniture finishing today.

On a Friday. I’m not paying emergency gouge rates for a plumber, so it’ll be cold showers for the weekend. Supposed to hot and humid anyway.

Now to spend some time looking for a new heater. I’ve been thinking about one of those tankless on demand jobbies for a while, let’s do some research. Gas ones require a stainless steel exhaust, which is not what currently exists, or cut a new hole in the side of the house, which I don’t want to do. And I don’t think I’ve got enough electrons coming into the house to run one that’ll keep up with upstate NY weather.

Huzzah.

Hope our change of water heater didn’t curse yours. We did the preemptive replacement to avoid just what you’re having to deal with. Bummer - hope it doesn’t turn into too much of a hassle.

I’ve wasted enough time. Gonna go clean some strawberries.

It’s a beautiful, partly sunny day here, with a projected high of 71º. I’ve been debating whether to go for a long walk in such gorgeous weather or go to the gym. Maybe I’ll get ambitious and do both.

I think it’s time to clean out the pantry, not because anything needs pitching but because 'tis a deep, dark cabinet, and I can’t see anything more than a foot from the doors, so I need reminding of what’s in there. Is any chore more first-world?

{{{{flyboy and Mrs. L.A.}}}}

shoe, glad you came to a decision you’re comfortable with. One day you’ll be running one of those places.

VanGo, sorry about the water heater. Does this mean going all Little House on the Prairie and heating water on the stove to wash dishes? Or will you just buy paper plates and have cold meals since it’s going to be hot anyway?

FCM, have fun with the hair lesson. Who knows? Maybe you will do the fancy braids once you get the hang of it. Love Tobias’ Broadway translation. There’s a type of spider called a crap spider? I don’t think I want to know what their defense mechanism is.

wordy, you can drink wine at your neighborhood pool?. Had they had that when I was a kid, Mom would have taken us every day! Have a wonderful time!

Better than being known as the quiet, furry psychopath. Those really freak out the neighbors.

Please tell me auto-correct screwed up “crab spiders,” or else life may not be worth living.

I can’t blame auto-correct. Dammit. My fingers were on autopilot and I guess my subconscious took over.

Supper has been ingested. Roxy dragged Grandpa back to her room and I’m enjoying a brief respite. I’m usually her favorite playmate, and I just don’t feel it today. Just not in grandmother mode, I guess. It’s pretty much been a wasted day.

Congrats Shoe! So happy for you. :tada:

Red have fun with your visit!

flyboy I am so sorry about your loss. It’s hard to say goodbye to our pets. They are family members and leave such a hole when they’re gone. My condolences to you and Mrs LA.

(Sorry to hear about your Sis.)

Taters congrats on your new gig! It sounds like a nice promotion. Getting an office is a huge win!

Talky When we did “flex” where I used to work, it sucked. I hope in your case it means that you get to work from home more often.

VanGo Sorry to hear about your water heater. I recommend checking out an on-demand unit. We have one and love it. It takes up a lot less room and saves quite a bit on energy use.

Moommm If it wasn’t crab spiders, then what was it?

I’m back home after my procedure. Not fun, but I have high hopes that it will help. Now I lie flat for several days to let the back heal again, then I’m on 6 weeks of restricted activity.

I have just ordered Coldstone delivered. 'Beamer just finished for the school year and I also feel like I’ve earned it. Go us!

Dinner tonight? Who knows. I want to order Mexican, but we’ll see what happens.

Happy Firday all.

Up from naptine. I went to the likker sto. Currently toasting Tonka with a Vieux Carré

Eek about the water heater, VanGo. But it is cold shower time, at least.

Yeah, I’m not a furry.(not that there’s anything wrong with that).

They prey on dung beetles.

Howdy Y’all! Stuff got done, nappage was achieved, and we got fed. I call it a win.

Taters yay on the promotion! Enjoy the office.

VanGo sucks about the water heater. I like the go “Little House On The Prairie” deal. Get a big galvanized wash tub and bathe in the kitchen. You can be Pa, the Mrs. can be Ma, and all the young’uns can be half-pint. Fun for the entire family!

Talky pool moms drunk on canned wine sounds like a premise for a porno.
