A Hurried MMP

Ok everybody, put away your torches and pitchforks.

I think I shall go lie upon the bed and watch me some teevee and drift off to sleepyland.

Nitey Nite Y’all!

They haven’t sent me my funnies for 3 days - guess I’ll have to web & archive it - I gotta know what Mary is gonna say when she finds out Edda & Amos are a couple.

What the hell is this N.O.T. that ya’all keep referring to?

Not Our Taters - to indicate that we’re not cannibals, but consumers of potatoes, or taters, that are not *our *Taters.

Just like if MBG were to give a particularly romantic bouquet to his Missus, on this their anniversary, he’d give N.O.R.

No, it’s a charcoal smoker. Sorry I didn’t make that clear.

Blurf. High on allergy meds - cleaned and moved stuff in preparation for the window they are going to put in my bedroom wall later this week. The dust got to me, so I took a Benadryl, and am caffeinating so as not to completely take off to la-la land. Will be back later if I have the energy.

Back at last from a holiday of Knoebels Grove amusement park and the “visiting of the relatives”. Happy to be back at work tomorrow ------ I need the rest! And the time to cruise through the last few days of posts. Looks like some good reading across the board.

I worked, it rained. I connected my new router to my computer and Blu-Ray player. Now I can watch Netflix on my big screen. I might need a TV vacation.

Happy Anniversary Mr. & Mrs. Bus Guy!!!

: slaps Lunch with a gefilte fish :

gt, 22 high school students?

VBob, sorry about the rain. There’s nothing worse than a wet fish. :stuck_out_tongue:

Glad you had a good time, kopek

Hey Lucky!

Epic Labor Day party lasted from 2pm Sunday to 4:30am Monday. It was amazing.

I got a text from my friend Danielle on Saturday, inviting me to a party at my friend Megan’s on Sunday, about half an hour from UMBC’s campus. Having nothing else to do, I said sure - I didn’t actually ask what the party was for or who would be there. Yeah, forethought is not my strong point.

Anyway, I printed out directions to Megan’s from Google Maps and managed to make it to her place on time and without getting lost. Much. This is where I began to suspect that this was not going to be the quiet, low-key, low-attendance type of party normally associated with my friends and myself; there were already four cars in he driveway when I got there, and I was early. Danielle met me in the driveway and led me inside to start meeting people.

Megan was there, along with Danielle and myself. So were Megan’s brother and sister, her parents, grandparents, aunts and uncles and cousins. Friends, neighbors, and I think neighbor’s families too. There were a LOT of people there, and they continued to arrive and depart over the course of the afternoon and evening, making it difficult to get an accurate tally. There had to have been at least 40 people total, though; cursory introductions were exchanged, and I promptly forgot most of their names, but at least with such a big crowd I did not feel like I was intruding on a family gathering or anything.

Megan, Danielle and I ended up passing most of the afternoon and evening sitting in comfy chairs on the back porch, sipping adult beverages and munching on truly prodigious quantities of snacks. There was of course the requisite platter of crackers, cheeses, mini pickles, and other munchables. Veggies and dip. Nachos with cheese and salsa and homemade guacamole. Fresh fruit with cream cheese dip. Potato salad, two kinds of pasta salad, buffalo chicken dip. Several kinds of potato chips. Hotdogs, hamburgers, all necessary toppings and condiments. Fruit salad, and steamed shrimp, and deviled eggs. It was all I could do to keep up - it seemed like as soon as one dish would be emptied, another would take its place. I think I managed to at least try everything, though, and it was all delicious.

Oh, and that doesn’t include dessert, which consisted of dirt cake, lemon meringue pie, apple pie, cupcakes, chocolate peanut butter cake, angel food cake, cookies, brownies, and probably one or two other things I forgot.

Anyway, while we slowly worked our way through this smorgasbord one plate at a time, we reclined on the porch, sipping margaritas and wine coolers and just chatted with whoever sat down near us. While a radio played int he background, we spend a while talking with one of Megan’s cousins (I think it was a cousin, anyway) and her husband about WoW and gaming in general, and with a different cousin (I think it was a cousin, anyway) and his girlfriend about gaming and movies, and with… Another cousin? I don’t even know. Anyway, we talked with him and his wife about life and general for a bit. We killed six hours on food, drink, and talk, in absolutely beautiful weather - cool, clear, lightly breezy, the air filled with the sounds of people laughing and talking, and meat sizzling on the grill. A couple dogs belonging to attendees were wandering around, too, so we’d stop to scratch them whenever they meandered by our way, and one of those dogs was a Shelty puppy the size of a grown cat and he was possibly the softest, most adorable thing I’ve ever seen, and he spent the whole party being passed around from person to person because everyone wanted to hold him. It was so relaxed and easygoing. No rush, no schedule, no to-do list, just happy food and happy dogs and happy people, with perfect weather to boot. Absolutely fantastic.

Nightfall didn’t bring the end of the festivities, either - Megan’s family has a garden with a fire pit and we lit a big bonfire and made smores over the flames. I made two, with marshmallows perfectly toasted to golden brown, crispy on the outside and gooey on the inside, but they’re so sweet I could only eat one and so I gave the other away, which I’m sure made somebody’s little kid really happy. After that, everybody piled back inside to unwind. At this point Megan, Danielle and I scampered off and with Megan’s sister Kelly in tow, we headed to the computer room to just chill and watch funny videos online; we killed hours on YouTube and with episodes of The Nostalgia Critic (www.thatguywiththeglasses.com) and whatever else we felt like watching.

Also, at some point, for reasons I do not now recall but which involved Kelly trying to take my picture with a cellphone camera, I ended up pinned on a couch/loveseat thingy with Megan, Kelly, and Danielle all tickling me. I’m not even going to make the obvious jokes and entendres here, because your mind has already done so. Oh, and Megan’s cockatiel was flying around the room. Since it hates everyone BUT Megan, this resulted in a lot of cowering and flailing on the part of everyone but Megan herself.

Finally, around 2am, we headed up to Megan’s room to watch a movie. But not just any movie. No, we wanted something special. And since Megan happened to have, courtesy of Netflix, a copy of the lowest-grossing US film in history (according to her) - an animated fantasy adventure called Delgo - there was really only one option. We watched it, and while it wasn’t THAT bad, it did have a fair number of flaws and we MSTied it mercilessly. It was fun, and many laughs were had. By the time that was over, though, it was 4:30am, and although I could have spent the night, I really wanted my own bed and so I took my leave and set off back to UMBC, maintaining a steady 10 mph under the speed limit because the route was unfamiliar (I had never driven to Megan’s house before) and, it being Labor Day weekend, there were cops EVERYWHERE. I passed two or three undercover cops parked with all their lights off on the side of I-70 alone, and I was only on the road for 15 minutes. Fortunately for me, all the adult beverages had worn off by now and I function quite well at 4:30am anyway, so I had no problems. I got back to my room, and hit my bed like a ton of bricks, falling asleep almost immediately. I didn’t get up til 3pm today.

I hope Megan has another party soon. I haven’t had that much fun in a LONG time.

Hey look, Page 2 and it’s still only Monday! XD

Got sent home early again tonight. Tired. Wanted to see Inglorious Basterds with the guys, but they apparently went to an earlier showing. Will insist Irish Brother go with me to see it Thursday. Stupid Craptop not connecting to intarwebs, have to use real computer. Going to sew and read for a bit to allow pronouns to reset.

Alastair that sounds like an awesome time. I wish I found myself at parties like that (I haven’t in years…).

Only 8:30 but I’m already thinking of just going to sleep. Maybe that will help me feel better.

Sounds like a great party, Moonie. I just remembered I still have my MMP written and saved from last time. :smack: At least I’ll be prepared for next time.

I can’t sleep. I emailed my boss with a list of things (goals) that I want to work toward and I thought (since that was what was on my mind) that would make me sleepy.

Nope. I’m tired, but not sleepy yet. I will go read for a bit. Thank god I don’t go to either job tomorrow.

Is it start of classes yet? I want to be able to get into a routine, dagnabit!

Moonie, DUUUUUUDE, sounds like you’re living your College Life right!

Hi, **Flutter **-- haven’t seen you in a while? Or was it me?

Happy Anniversary, MBG!

I forgot to mention – since Sunday, they’re working on one side of our (already parking-places’-challenged) street… The end goal is to provide more parking, which is what we need, but the next month or so is really going to be, very literally, Hell on Wheels

Now, back to my regularly scheduled salt mines.

Morning all!

I am being given eeeevil looks by everyone in my office as I am in a ridiculously good mood today and no one elses coffee seems to have kicked in yet

I am finally getting the hang of this weightwaters thing and packing snacks to bring to work etc so i am not starving all the time (Cucumber slice anyone?)

Aaaaand I have booked my next trip to the US to see The Hubby in November - We are going to Vegas for Thanksgiving. Whoohoo!

I am also travelling each of the next three weeks - September will be busy - and my last trip involves a week long adventure to Nigeria where we (being my boss and her entourage including me) get our own personal security detail while we are there

Thanks for the recommendations for NYC - the Cloisters was already on my list along with the Rockefeller Centre and a few other things. I picked up a copy of the 2009 Frommers guide from the library last weekend so I’ve been looking through that and deciding what to do, they have a couple of guides that will take us round the major sights we want to see, and gives us a lot of info on how to get around between them. I’m planning a day out at Woodbury Common and possibly at day at the Bronx Zoo but that won’t leave us a lot of time for anything else so I am going to look at it more carefully this weekend.

Pugs, for personal reasons, Ground Zero is somewhere I plan never to visit as long as I live.

Nava, I have found lots to do during the day but our evenings are currently free but there’s no point taking 'im indoors to a show because he’ll be bored and whiny within the first ten minutes. If it was a Cirque du Soleil show then he’d be happy but the typical Broadway musical fare is so not his cup of tea and I really could do without him getting all fussy about it.

I’ve told him that we have no night-time activities arranged so he will have to sort that out himself. Well, why should I have to do all the work?

Happy Bus-versary!

Good Mornin’ Y’all! Up and caffienatin’ though I could be sleepin’ at least another hour. My internal clock is used to a six am start time for work, which will return tomorrow so I guess this is not a bad thing.

Moonie sounds like an uber epic partay there!

Taters how’d the smoker do?

Need more caffiene.

Happy Tuesday Y’all!
