A Hurried MMP

Happy Anniversary MBG!

Sorry for being so scarce - work’s catching up to me. Today I wallowed in readings about the Inca Empire. Fun.

Careful Boo, or he’ll produce two laptops and try to get you into a spacegoatchick suit…

Blurf.

We leave in an hour to go get this “shit” over with. Ha.

Dang, even Rebo is up early this morning! Here I am, up and caffeinating.

Yes, Moonie appears to have college life down to a Tee. Enjoy, I say! Yes, that was me with the recommendation for The Cloisters, SpecialOne, and glad to hear that it was already on your list, BooFae; it’s definitely a neat place to see in NYC.

Work is going to be very subdued today; a co-worker’s wife passed away on Friday–unexpectedly. I didn’t find out until I read her obit in the paper yesterday. :frowning: No idea what the cause was, but it may have been a pulmonary embolism. So very sad; she worked in our agency as well, and their two children are early teens. They are in my prayers.

Sorry to be so down. Enjoy your Tuesday all – three to go to the weekend, right? (today doesn’t count!)

Up, caffeinated, off to work.

Blurf ::bubble bubble bubble::

I should have canoed to work today. Damned 2 day monsoon.

I have 4 things I Absolutely Must Get Done Today:

  1. Make cookies for Daughter, as TH is going out there tomorrow.

  2. Pick up Rx at drugstore, if it’s ready.

  3. Plant alliums and tulip bulbs in garden.

  4. Get to bank for some cash.

I finally fell asleep around 0400. I don’t feel rested, hence the yard work (it always calms me down or zens me out or whatever it is that happens, happens).

Sorry for the rain, if it’s raining; heat if it’s hotting, humidity if it’s damping etc.

Happy belated Bus-iversary!

Don’t really want to be back at work today. Blah.

Sounds like fun, moonie. Although I think if extended family is around, it doesn’t count as a college party!

We had a good weekend. Friends were in town, and they’re a lot of fun. My throat got sore from laughing so much.

I replaced my fence basket flowers (which really didn’t do well) with some mums for the fall. They look pretty. And I replaced those purple flowers that I posted pics of back in the spring (:: digs through pics::… ah, these!), which had gotten a bit unruly and were yellowing and unattractive with some nice purplish/red grass. Which looks great. But the cat wants to eat it. And then she throws up. :smack: So she’s not allowed on the patio unsupervised any more.

We also finally found curtains that we wanted for our bedroom. We’re going to use the Ikea ones we thought we wanted for our bedroom in the living room. The new bedroom ones are nice micro suede ones in a dark burgundy/maroon that actually have a valance (that was the issue with the previous set - no valance and no inspiration on what to do without one). So that looks good and it feels like we’re closer to having the decorating done. Aside from the giant wall in the living room that has nothing on it. Bleh.

We’re having a department cruise on a nearby lake on Thursday. For one of the games, they want everyone to submit an interesting fact about themselves that other people don’t know. Ugh. The cruise sounds good but games sound hokey. My instinct is to come down with the “flu” on Thursday morning.

Dad got a clean bill of health! Yay!

I am very blurfy and I’m gonna go take a nap now. I’m pooped.

Rosie’s sig to all…

Got registered with the Doctor’s Practice at Uni yesterday; got an appointment for today; after a five-minute visit, got appointment to see the vampires Thursday at 9:20… which is about 4 hours later than I normally have breakfast. I really should try and live human hours or something.

Trying to decide whether I want to go have food at the Chapel. Pro:
free food
Cons:
it’s yucky out
the food comes with an introduction of every religion-oriented club on campus.

I’m all for chaplains organizing walks on the hills and “learn a few easy recipes” courses, not so fond of clubs and specially of religion-oriented clubs.

I’d say pass. There will be other free food on campus, without the bad-weather and religious-zealotry strings attached.

Rebo - Yay! Glad to hear everything is fine with your dad!

Taxi - It wasn’t a college party. It was a Labor Day party, with Megan, Danielle, Kelly, myself, and a few others in attendance to keep it interesting!

Also, I like the sound of those curtains - deep reds are some of my favorite colors.

rigs - I consider any given day a success if half of my must-get-dones get done.

Vundy - bubble bubble glurb bubble

Swampus** - We could all use an extra hour’s sleep, though, couldn’t we?

Well, not me, so much. I got up at noon. evil grin

BooFae - Have fun in NYC! And remember, we expect pics.

helps himself to one of ems’ cucumber slices Why thank you, don’t mind it I do… Now where’s the ranch dressing?

Today’s to-do list is “eat”. Oh, and “pack up whatever I want/need to take home.” I’m heading home tonight in preparation for a 6:30am quadruple wisdom tooth extraction tomorrow.

Insult to injury, indeed.

My current plan is to not sleep at all tonight so that I can sleep through as much of tomorrow as possible.

So’s your Dad.

Well, being pooped after spending all your day with a poopy Dad makes a lot of sense.

  1. I am very afraid that Nat has given up his afternoon nap, and I will have to kill myself or sell him to passing strangers.

  2. He has a weird rash all over his torso. Doctor’s on Thursday.

  3. We have bought a new computer.
    That’s the news.

Tech specs and component roster? If you would be so kind?

(I love computers the way most people love new cars or new babies - as soon as I hear that somebody has one, I have to know all about it.)

Blargh.

I’ve only just gotten over Teh Sick, and this morning Other Coworker showed up with a bad case of the sniffles. Considering he was away for the past two weeks, it’s likely to be a totally different strain from whatever I just got over… so I’ll be staying well away from him, lest I catch Round 2 of Teh Sick.

Yay for new computer, LiLi! Too bad about Gnat’s uncooperativeness with afternoon naps, though… I don’t suppose putting him in bed bound and gagged for a few hours is an option?

In other news, Miami Friend will likely be descending upon us tonight instead of on the weekend as originally planned, and will be staying in our guest room until he can manage to find an apartment in the city. Hopefully it won’t be too long before he can manage that… I don’t think The Boy is overly pleased at the unexpected houseguest.

The thing is, I keep giving him the option to object, but he insists he’s cool with it whenever I ask. My choices seem to be either beating him about the head until he drops the passive-aggressive act, or dealing with his increasing grumpiness every time we have a houseguest (which, 9 times out of 10, is one of my friends/family since his are all local or prefer to stay elsewhere when they’re in town).

Bound and gagged worked. Eventually.

I’m not that happy about the new computer. I wish our old one hadn’t bitten the dust. We’ve just spent a fair amount on moving and we can’t really afford a new one, but we also (unfortunately) can’t live without one without vastly increasing our long-distance calling and stamp buying.

Sorry, Moonie, I am the wrong person to ask. It cost $650, and I’m told it’ll work. I only dimly comprehend using Google and understand two functions on our digital camera. Things I am good at don’t include technology.

Muppet, unexpected houseguests are a strain. You have my sympathy.

I think Attacks Things Husband and Quasi-Daughter are interested in each other. I hope it works out. It might prevent QD from dating Driving Husband again, and another tearful breakup in two years.

Did I mention the 10 person sudden dinner party last week, the day after we moved? For celiacs allergic to beef and lamb and nuts?
I survived.

I also, (mostly of interest to Muppet, went to the East York farmers market today, which was lovely, and we’re having violently-coloured caulfower for dinner.

[mini rant]
I am full of GRRRRRRR at people who schedule meetings when you already have a meeting on the calendar. I’m not one of those people who has meetings constantly. I have one or two meetings a day at most. And you can’t schedule your meeting for any time other than the time I already have something going on?? GRRRRRR.

Re: NYC suggestions. We went to the radio & tv museum, which apparently is actually called The Paley Center. Unfortunately, I’m not having great luck navigating their website to figure out what they’ve got going on. But from what I remember, there are old tv shows being aired all the time and you can just go watch what’s on. Or you can make a specific request ahead of time from their library and they set you up in a little room and watch your pre-requested show. But, as I said, I can’t find details on the website. If someone has more time and wants to dig into that, it is really cool, and it’s right near Rockefeller Plaza so it’s convenient too.

ETA: What in the world do celiacs who are allergic to beef and lamb and nuts actually eat, LiLi? As much as I love cooking and being the hostess, I think I would have suggested meeting at a restaurant at that point!

Weird dinner tonight:

[ul]
[li]Leftover baked eggplant parmigiana (WW recipe - 4 points per serving)[/li][li]Half an avocado[/li][li]Broccoli[/li][li]One slice of chedder cheese[/li][/ul]

It was yummy!

Strap Gnat to the bed LiLi he will sleep eventually…(maybe?)

Rebo glad Dad is OK

Hugs to the sickies etc…

Bed time for me!
