A Hurried MMP

I had all four out at once. You will sleep weither you want to or not. Good drugs, though.

So I’ve been told, but I like stacking the odds in my favor. I want to be awake as little as possible for the next three or four days.

That’s what “siesta” meant at home, back when summer meant 40C but us kids were too young to care. It was a time when we were to play quietly; we could read, draw, color, play with construction blocks… we could even play toy soldiers so long as the battles were yelled in size=1.

This past summer the Kidlet wasn’t napping any more; it was a problem at first but an agreement was reached that it was ok for him to be playing so long as he didn’t wake the Kidlette up. He’s a very reasonable kid if you actually reason with him, but try to impose your will without any previous attempts at reasoning and you’re starting a war; “listen, I know you don’t understand it but I’m your father and it’s the way I say” works, but it only works if he genuinely believes that you’ve tried to explain.

When the Kidlet tried to crawl, it took him a couple of months to work out the logistics inherent in going from “sitting down” to “all fours.” He always got stuck with his left leg under the rest. The Kidlette has tried it later than her brother, but I’m told she got stuck like that… stared at that leg for a while (she’s very good at staring)… got it unstuck and went on her merry way. She’s also having her first steps at the same time. Her legs have always been very strong; if you sit her on your knees, facing you, and with enough freedom of movement, she’ll go from sitting to stretched to sitting to stretched, with no help from the grown-up except acting as a support.

Sorry, no pics and butchering Those Who Should Provide Pics doesn’t seem like an efficient way to get the pics taken and passed along.

Good Mornin’ Y’all! Up and caffienatin’. YAWN

gotti glad y’all are over the flu. Welcome back to life.

All my designs on spendin’ money are for things I want/need around da cave. Sorry Y’all. :stuck_out_tongue:

Moonie good luck with the wisdom teeth thing. I don’t expect we’ll hear much from ya today or possibly tomorrow. Enjoy the drugs. They are your friend.

Ok, time for more caffiene, some brekkies and work purtification.

Happy Wednesday!

Blurfity blurf!

morning all - up and caffeinating and a bit late this am. Double blurf!

A most belated happy anniversary to Mr.BusGuy and his wife. Moonie, take it easy … and be especially careful about washing hands; UMD has a serious outbreak of Swineflu, at least in College Park. :frowning:

I’m only half awake …

I am joining the blurf club today.

Busy morning, just had the caterers in doing a lunch for us and this afternoon we have six students coming in for prize vivas. That’ll be more busy for me today then.

Fortunately it’s midweek and that means beerverages tonight!

I’m up, dressed and almost ready to go. Come on Saturday.

Blurf.

I’m on delayed grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr, 'cuz I didn’t have time to post this yesterday. A contact report on skirmishes with TVCTPMO.

Yestreday dawned underwater from the monsoon I’ve alreqdy mentioned, which caused a massive regional traffic jam in Greater Hampton Roads. The upshot is that my hour long commute nearly doubled.

To rub salt in that wound, over the weekend the knob that selects the environmental mode for the Foomobile broke, so I had no ability to turn on the defroster. Mind you that it’s pouring rain, and the relative humidity is about eleventy bazillion percent.

I decided that I’d obtain a new knob before the day was done, so after work I stopped by a Chevy dealership to visit the parts department. Yeah, they could get me a knob, but it’s $16 and they have to order it. Ok, dammit, get me the knob.

I’m walking across the parking lot back to my car, and I’m nearly run over by an auto carrier; the driver was off in la-la land and didn’t see me. I was abot 5 feet from instantaneous death.:mad: It took me 20 minutes and walking through the showrooms of three dealerships to figure out who he was and where he delivered to. I got his name and business phone number; his boss is supposed to call me back today to recieve his obligatory earful. I’m holding my breath, of course.

Grrrrrr. I finally got back to the Foomobile, and decided to try switching knobs with the fan control so I can turn off my defroster. You see this one coming? I broke that knob, too.

Back to the parts department (easy, because my car had not left it’s spot) to increase my order. “You wanna get 3, just in case?”

“Me no like-um horse, either.”

VWife wanted me to stop by Wally*World to get her a couple of jugs of tea. I took the time and opportunity to obtain some needle nose pliers so I have environmental control in the interim. It works if I grab the shaft just right, but the gear shift gets in the way. Another grrrrrrrrrr.

I Don Wanna be an adult anymore.

Blurf. The morning started out ok until I got to work. The it-seems-like-every-other-week copier cleaning is today. So the guy’s vacuuming the copier. On. Off. On. Off. ARGH! How am I supposed to get work done?? Go Away!

I wish copiers were something that could be taken to a cleaner/repair person instead of having them come here.

Glad you’re feeling better gotti. The real flu sucks big time. I just wish everyone would stop calling every case of the sniffles the flu. If you’re at work, you don’t have the flu. If you’re over it in 24 hours, you didn’t have the flu. More ARGH! (Seeing a pattern yet? I’m all out of sorts this morning.)

You’ll be fine with the wisdom teeth, moonie. I had mine out in the morning and went back to school (high school) in the afternoon. It’s not bad.

I got an invitation to a friend’s wedding yesterday. For a wedding halfway across the country. On Oct 4th. That’s less than a month away. To book flights and hotels and car rentals. Yeah. Not happening. Especially since I already booked a trip home for two weeks after that because I hadn’t gotten an invitation to the wedding. I figured they had to trim the guest list, which is fine. I wanted a trip home around then so it was all working out. Until I found out that I am invited, just the bride is scatterbrained and didn’t bother to find out my address until last week. ::sigh:: It’s probably for the best. I don’t really know anyone else who’ll be there and the bride won’t have time to talk during her wedding anyway. So I’ll try to get together with her for coffee two weeks later and hear all about it instead. But it is a Greek Orthodox wedding, which would have been cool to see. Oh well.

Today the Uni’s Sports Center is having a “come see day.” I missed the cardio event because I was doing laundry but hopped over for archery. There were three guys and a girl showing any comers how to hold a bow, nock an arrow and hopefully hit something but not someone. They asked whether I was left or right handed, I explained I don’t know, they made me hold my hands in a way I can’t reproduce now and determined I was “oh boy, left handed.” The only one who was left handed was the girl, and she was already busy. I managed to hit my arm with the bowstring on the second shot (will probably have a huge bruise tomorrow), but I also hit the paper the bullseye is in on the third and fourth shots, which is better than others were doing.

And one of the guys is the treasurer for the Gaming club  So you could say I hit two nerds with an arrow…

The reason I decided to give archery a try is that I have lousy hand-eye coordination and pretty bad equilibrium, and I think it’s something which can help me with those but without the pressure of team sports or competitive sports; yes, archery has competitions, but you don’t need an oponent to practice it. Archery clubs are rare in Spain but there happens to be one half an hour’s drive from my house, so if I like it I can keep it up.

Hot dawg! the Chevy dealer called, and my knobs are in for pickup. I’ll have my car envirnment back, finally.

Better not be any auto carriers this time around.

Another phone call, out of the blue: the attempted murder case, which I thought was settled last time without me having to testify, is up for trial yet again next week, and I’ve been subpoenaed yet again.

I’m beginning think this case is a chancre, 'cuz it keeps coming back.

Archery sounds like fun, Nava! It’s something I’d like to try someday. (Along with a very long list of other things too.)

I have a sudden craving for peanut butter. Could someone get me a piece of peanut butter toast please?

Sure taxi you want honeynut flavored or plain?

BBBobbio the case that won’t die is apparently a large part of TVCTPMO for you. Yay for new <snerk> knobs <snerk>! So, did you order extra? :stuck_out_tongue:

I need to do sump’n for dindin. Don’t wanna cook. May be a Subway kinda night bein’ as it’s just up the road.

Nava aimin’ at stuff with sharp pointy sticks. Sounds like fun!

Hope everything’s goin’ ok for Moonie.

swampy, I know you didn’t mean me when you declined to buy presents. I just know it! <puppy dog eyes>

Today was a major nothing day. We did have a going-away lunch for one of our team who’s been reactivated (Navy) and is headed to Afghanistan for 420 days (and he’s got 2 or 3 kids at home - bummer!) Lunch was fun, but I got some heartburn from my chicken quesadilla. urp!

Tonight’s supper is a ham/N.O.T./onion/scallop casserole. Not made with scallops - rather scalloped N.O.T. with ham and onions and peas mixed in and cheddar on top. It’s a favorite, plus it’s easy. Easy is good tonight.

Not much else. Knitting, I suppose. And waiting for Firday.

Glad you’re better, gotti! Good luck with the toofies, **Moonie **- do what your Dr tells you, 'k?? Glad you didn’t get smooshed, Bobbio!

Hugs and gropes all around!

I really prefer the natural kind with some honey mixed in, please.

I’ve run out of energy. I can go home now, right? kthxbai.

Blurf.

Teeths are out. Hurts. Interestingly, it’s not the four massive craters in my head that are causing me so much discomfort - it’s the sore, raw throat caused by the breathing tube. I had to have a breathing tube because the operation was done in the OR with full-body, knocked-out-cold anesthesia.

Painkillers are fun though. Percocet horse-pills for the win.

I still can’t eat or drink anything… I mean, I’m supposed to, but my mouth is still bleeding and full of gauze and quite sore. They wouldn’t keep me in the recovery room at the hospital for very long at all once I woke up from anesthesia - like, 20 minutes - they just sent me home with two types of pills (each of which I am supposed to take 4x a day) and instructions to salt-water rinse at least 5x a day. Kinda impractical while my face is stuffed full of cloth. Oh well. I’m not very hungry or thirsty at all, even though all I’ve had today is a few sips of water.

However, I’m alive, and while this sucks for sure, I have felt considerably worse.

In just an hour, I’ll be sitting down with The Boy and a couple of friends for the finest smoked meat sandwiches that can be had in the city (with pickles, fries and coleslaw, natch, and possibly cheesecake if I’m not stuffed), immediately followed by an evening of gorgeous layered ambient goodness courtesy of Telefon Tel Aviv.

If that ain’t heaven, I don’t know what is.

You know not to use straws right after having your teeth pullled, right, Moonie? Also, when FarAway Best Friend had hers pulled, they told her to put wet teabags on the craters. That helped. IANAD and all that.

I’m back home. Yay! Very fun trip. Met up with MBG and BusWife as well as rigs. Yay! And had a blast with FarAway Best Friend, the other chaperones and the kids.

Am about to be late to a friend’s house…

Back later with more.
