One TIRED Tiger checking in here. I’m home, showered, fed, and trying to contemplate working on this rather larger than I thought initially rush job that’s theoretically due Monday. (Yeah, right, sure! They know not to expect it from me then, even if they want it then!) But it was a lovely time. Fairy Chat Estates is a delightful place, as are all the critters – Miss Brandy has the most gorgeous eyes I think I’ve ever seen on a cat! FCM’s clay playroom is lovely, and FCD’s Manland of tools is truly astonishing. It’s a good thing Papa Tigs wasn’t along, he’d be drowning in a puddle of envious drool right about now. FCD has a truly impressive collection of tools, power and otherwise!
The sale was more productive for FCM than for me – I’ll let her fill you in on all the details – but I had a respectable first outing and will have at least a small donation to make to my charity. And I learned some valuable lessons for next time, which will be late next month. I think the weather today definitely was not in my favor – most people simply aren’t looking for woolen knitted things on a 90° day. But late October, when it’s cooler and closer to Christmas, should be much better for me. It also gives me some more productive knitting time, so it’s back to the knitting salt mines for me. I was surprised at what sold, though; one scarf I almost didn’t take because after I was halfway through it, I realized that the color variations in the yarn are very uneven and, IMO, seriously ugly was one of the first things to move. So an obvious lesson is: Don’t let my own personal tastes completely prevail, but force myself to expand my color horizons into things that I would never, ever choose otherwise.
I also made a surprisingly inexpensive stop in the craft show locale’s local Very Expensive Yarn Shop, which fortuitously was open right behind where our booth was set up. I escaped with only $22 of cotton/silk yarn, that was 30% off, in a stunning royal blue and rich purple. I fear I may be visiting that Very Expensive Yarn Shop again, especially if I ever need any Cascade 220 yarn (a classic wool yarn); they have probably every single color of it ever made, and Cascade 220 comes in a lot of colors. They have a whole 10-foot wall of Cascade 220, I nearly pulled out my credit card and said, “I’ll take one of everything!” But I decided I’d like to be allowed to return home, so I just wiped the drool off my chin and went back to the sale shelves. Sigh.
Papa Tigs and the Idiots drove down to give the Idiots something to do besides go swimming, which Rusty probably shouldn’t do at least until all the IV holes in his front legs heal; fortunately, riding in the car always runs a close second in terms of doggie excitement. And then on the way home they stopped at a woods preserve and took a nice walk, where apparently Rusty decided he wanted to go say hi to a flock of geese. The geese were not amused. Isaac apparently had met up with flocks of large, nasty birds in his days on the street before we adopted him; he wanted to have nothing to do with them, smart dog that he is! So they had a wonderful day, too. And they got to make so many new friends! Life is so GOOD when you’re a dog! Or something.
Last but definitely not least, Papa Tigs was very impressed with the improvement in FCM’s pottery skills since we first met her at this same craft show last year. As am I – she’s getting really good! Someday when she’s rich and famous, we can all say we knew her when.
I’m going to go back to pretending to do some work now. “Pretending” being the operative word; I’m mostly counting down till bedtime. Sitting out in the heat all day does sap your energy, even if it is full of good company.
