A Labor Day Belated Birthday BBQ – The MMP

It’s a lovely overcast day today! It’s humid, but I’d rather have the humidity than the heat, it gives the house a chance to cool down. I need to drop my laundry off, go to Target, and then start on the second sock.

I’m thinking good thoughts, taxi. I’ve had a couple of friends with abnormal paps, and it turned out there was nothing wrong. One was a false positive twice, and the third time at a different lab was fine, the other was just one of those things, i.e. doc said I dunno, we’ll keep close tabs on it, but it never turned into anything.

BBBobbio, much squeeage on the kittehs.

I had abnormal paps for several years in a row, Dotty – the doctor finally did a colposcopy (checking the cervix visually and taking some samples) and determined that it was absolutely nothing to worry about, just some inner cells growing around the cervical opening. They eventually turned normal, and I haven’t had an abnormal one in probably ten years now. I also had to have a follow-up mammo once, but after they did an ultrasound in addition to squeezing my poor boobs in some ways boobs are not meant to be squeezed, it turned out just to be a couple of cysts with a little fluid in them. Which apparently have since also disappeared. So don’t worry at this point; over-caution seems to be the name of the game these days when it comes to female issues. Which is a darned sight better than the old days of “you’re too young to have cancer, go away!” that killed several women I knew. :frowning:

Bobbio, your wife might want to practice around the house with a walker or cane or something that she can use to “persuade” the dogs to stay out from underfoot. I used crutches after my surgery, which is not normal but I was very experienced with them, alas, from multiple sprains, surgeries, etc., and I called them my “dog-whackers” – I never hit the dogs deliberately, but if they were in the way when I swung a crutch forward to move, I didn’t pull any punches. It only took getting whacked once or twice each for them to know to stay away! In fact, when I walked in the house after getting my bioknee, they were bouncing at me – but then they saw the crutches and stopped dead. So getting them used to staying back before her surgery might be a good idea.

I was a good girl and cleaned up a lot of stuff in my office. Sorted out my yarn stash a bit more, and am headed over to put some of it in the storage unit for now since it’s kind of a pain having it all underfoot; I don’t really have much storage space for it. What I really should do is clear off half a bookcase, and then use that, or better yet, buy a thoroughly compartmentalized shelf and put it all out on display, but I have neither the energy nor the time right now. At least it’s all sorted and labeled now, mostly in Mardi Gras bead bags. Hey, they’re surprisingly impervious and waterproof, have zipper tops, are a comfy size (slightly bigger than your average paper grocery bag) with sturdy handles for carrying – what’s not to like?

Off to run errands. Ta ta, don’t everyone lose your underwear again like you did at Puggy’s!

taxi, I had a string of abnormal smears back in '96-'97, diagnosed as CIN1. I had two loop diathermies to deal with the “dysplastic squamous cells”, a bunch of follow-up colposcopy appointments for about 12 months and yearly smears since then. I have been all clear for 10 years now and none the worse for wear (:snerk:).

Drive by post…

Have camera
Have downloading USB attachment thingy
Have no time to upload pics
Check back later!

Mornin’ everyone.

I just now saw the kitty pictures, Bobbio. They’re cute, but I don’t ever want another kitty.

taxi, best of luck. I hope everything turns out fine.

Hey! How come I got stuck doing most of the clean-up at the party, huh? What’s up with that?

I’m sure you’re wondering (or not) what I’m doing posting on what should be a work day. I stayed home. I felt the headache coming on yesterday after breakfast out, but I guess it won. I took Tylenol to try and offset it, but it didn’t help. By about 4:00 this morning, I was in bad shape.

I finally got to sleep just a little, but woke up so sore, that I had to get out the bed. I was walking like some 1,000 year-old crone.

In a bit, I’m going to have to try and sleep again. That seems to be the only thing that finally chases the headache off. I’m going to try a little soup or something a little later too. Right now, my stomach can’t handle anything.

I’m sure I’ll be better by tomorrow. I’ve got to be.

Tomorrow is the kids’ first day of school. They’re actually kind of looking forward to it.

I should try to lie down now. A big wave of nausea just hit.

Can someone lend us some cool weather? It was hot Saturday and Sunday at the Faire site.

How hot was it?

It was stinking hot.
It was fry eggs on your forehead hot.
It was so hot that relief valves on propane tanks were popping.
It was so hot that three people (that I’m aware of) went down with heatstroke.

And we open this Saturday. Many of us will be clad in wool. Hopefully people will follow my urges to drink water, water and more water, and keep nibbling on those pickle chips (providing more water and some salt). Hopefully, there will still be some propane left - the tanks are doing exactly what they’re supposed to do, but it is a bit disconcerting to be near one and have it go off with a whistly hissing. And realizing that it’s too hot for freaking propane to stay in a tank, and there you are, out in the same heat.

Wish I could have been there in person for gt’s party. Maybe next year!

You would think that the folks who run the faires, or at least their costume committees, would try to find or make the garments out of cotton. I know wool is more authentic, but wouldn’t you want your actors to want to come back the following year?

Right. Coffee for rosie, hot chocolate for me and an extra-large box of doughnut holes over there. Anyone who snaffles all the sour cream chocolate will be smacked.

I’m making some kind of potato-corn-cheddar soup for lunch and to take to work. I’ve still got to put some of the laundry away, and do some mending. I’d like to spend the day happily in bed with the cats, reading.

rigs, I’m due January 8th, and praying I don’t have a Christmas baby. That would suck for him. If you’re born at Christmas no one ever gives you presents for both. It’s a ripoff.

LiLi, if TinyNinjaChefDude is a Santa baby, what’s going to stop you from observing his B-day before or after just so he’s not screwed in the gift department?

Might suck to wait 2 extra weeks for cake and ice cream, but it beats the alternative…

Cotton’s OK for peasant garb - muslin’s great for shirts, for example, but it just doesn’t work right for higher classes. This is an era where “Clothes make the man” is not just a saying - what you wear defines what or who you are. Our beleaguered nobles would look like they were at a pajama party without their sumptuous layers of brocades and velvets.

Another part of the problem is that most Faires have adopted the theatrical convention of portraying a bountiful harvest time, punctuated by that once-in-a-lifetime event of the Queen passing through town for whatever reason accompanied with her posse of noble lords and ladies. Yes, we could portray planting time, but watching people scatter seeds on the ground is boring.

Also, the nobles would have a collective fit if the Queen was not coming as they’d suddenly have no reason to exist in our village, and their enormous investment in costuming was all for naught.

We can’t control the weather - three years ago, we had two of six weekends where it rained and was chilly. The year before that, we had one truly hot day and the rest were simply warm. Last year was on the cool side as well. All we can do is be prepared to adapt to the weather.

Thanks for the stories with a positive outcome jah, dotty, and mama tigs. I’m reasonably confident that everything will be ok and that they’re just being overly cautious, but there’s a little part of my brain that’s scared.

Eh… my birthday’s 3 days before xmas and it’s not so bad. At least not if you’re a spoiled only child. Birthday parties with friends always had to be earlier in December because people would be away that close to xmas, but most years we were on vacation from school by that point, which is always a good way to celebrate your birthday!

Every few years or so, I would get shrifted because Yom Kippur would fall on my birthday. That is one holiday you don’t want coinciding with day designed for cake and goodies

I dropped off the laundry and went to Target. The entry fee was only $29. I noticed that more and more, they’re using gift cards instead of sales. For example, they had a pink Dyson for $399, and you get a $100 gift card at checkout. I hope the trend doesn’t continue, because I don’t want to be flipping through my wallet looking for a particular store’s scrip all the time. The silly rewards cards are bad enough as it is. What’s next, green stamps? And get off my lawn!

The day has remained lovely. It’s a great day to be [del]unemployed[/del] home.

This is what happens when you miss posting to the MMP for a week. You get invited to a party, actually attend, and then forget all about it before you even get back home. And I’m not surprised, because I re-read all of the Douglas Adams Hitchhiker books this weekend, and it seems like something that would have happened in one of them.

Happy Birthday (belated), FCM

Okay, I really meant Happy Belated Birthday to Puggy.

See how kerfluggled I am?

Yay! As of this afternoon, snowbunny’s fire is OFFICIALLY 100% contained! Not out, mind you, but at least it’s burning in from the edges, not out!

A friend’s brother had a birthday that almost always fell during Passover, Rosie. He got mighty sick of sponge cake birthday cakes. But that’s still an improvement over it falling on Yom Kippur! Definitely not the day for partying.

All my errands are run, and my new Crocs arrived that I ordered from Zappo’s. That company is amazing – I ordered them Sunday at 7 pm and they arrived today! I just wanted them before the 20th, when I leave for Oregon – I’m tired of wearing lace-up shoes through airport security. While I have the Crocs thongs and absolutely adore them, I had to go a full size up on the regular ones because of my stupid bad foot and also because I figure I’ll wear them around the house in the winter with thick socks on. Unfortunately, that means they’re really too big if I don’t have thick socks on. Stoopid bad foot. :frowning: It’s a leetle warm out there for wearing thick socks right now!

I have just been groggy all day. I have no idea why; I slept well last night. Is it bedtime again yet?

Oh great. They’re copying Best Buy’s scam, er scheme. I don’t want to get $50 to spend the next time I’m in the store. I want to spend $50 less!

True, that… But it also means we should be celebrating your birthday really soon now, right?

Passover is worse, though – it’s a larger target (and thus harder to evade…) and Pesadik anything – **especially **cake – just, pardon my French, blows…

BTW, I don’t remember if you posted about it – did you apply for that internal position, in the end? If so, what became of it?

Yay! on SnowBunny’s fire being contained!! (wait, that sounds vaguely dirty, doesn’t it… nevermind, you know what I mean)

I think some sort of miracle happened today. I called in my refill on my Mirapex (for RLS) and went to pick it up. He gave me the total - $62 something. What? Last time it was $80 and change. I asked if it went down, and the pharmacist said they had a discount card for it they applied to my script! Amazing! Saved me almost $20 and I didn’t even have to ask or beg anyone!

First day of the catsitting gig - I got there and the key I was given is one of those keys you have to jiggle around in the lock; I almost had a heart attack before I got the door open. Cats were glad to see me and get their gooshie fud.

All of the meeting rooms at both libraries are booked for the date of the next Booster Club meeting. Grrr. I hate meeting in a resturant because you can never hear.

DB, I think the purple flip flop is mine. If it looks like a cat has been at it, it’s mine.

Swampy, are you going to make it to Columbus for a game this season?

Did I mention my sister-in-law was researching my family tree? She gave me a bunch of information she found - including the fact that one of my maternal ancestors in the 1850’s was a slave owner. He owned 8 slaves according to the census. I am vaguely squicked out by that.

That’s pretty doggone belated - mine is in January.

Kiln is loaded and warming up. I managed to load everything but one flowerpot and saucer. No big - they’ll go in the next batch. My youngest sis has ordered 5 or 6 mugs (can’t recall) to be personalized for her “gang” - I’ll do them along with more critters before my October show.

I get to spend tomorrow in Baltimore. Depending upon how long FCD’s procedure takes, I’ll be able to run some errands. I’m definitely going to Clayworks - I’ll have some time to browse at my leisure without worrying about boring my spousal unit. Of course, that could be expensive… I should take up knitting again - it’s at least a little cheaper.
