Hello, all. I spent the day doing stuff–don’t ask me what, but the day is almost gone and I don’t feel all that productive. I did get #1 son to the orthodontist, though. And I worked at the library.
Working at the hospital tomorrow–25 more shifts, unless I can’t get a better position at the library, then I have to still work at the hospital some more.
I think I’m supposed to be on spring break now, but my mind hasn’t caught up with that notion yet…
Oh, and just so y’all know–Colin Firth is mine and mine alone. I’ve already had to give The Smackdown to others in RL about this. Let’s not get ugly here, girls…(and gay men).
I am corresponding secretary again. My choice for president didn’t get elected. My choice for treasurer did get elected. The woman elected 2nd vice president has attended one meeting all year - this one. Should be fun to see how many meetings she makes this year.
I really do enjoy reading through everyone’s posts; I only wish I could remember everyone and make comments, etc. My brain goes into “freeze” mode sometimes, or maybe it’s info overload mode.
Swampy, so glad to hear that everything is working out okay with your uncle. Have a safe drive home and rest up well for your St. Patrick’s Day festivities on Saturday.
Tupugs, I liked that gown with the cap sleeves the best. David’s Bridal seems very reasonably priced too.
FCM, forgot to mention that the cabbage-style lasagna dish sounded really good! Hope you’ll post the recipe for it. Sorry to hear about Miss Brandy, though. And say, if you ever do a craft fair in the District, Prince George’s or Montgomery Co., let me know, cause I’d love to come and see your wares and maybe even purchase a mug.
I forgot to mention that I like the gown with the cap sleeves best, too. It’s really pretty. I have to admit I’m not a big fan of strapless gowns, though – they really don’t look good on an awful lot of girls who nevertheless squeeze themselves into them. They just look so uncomfortable.
I had a pleasant surprise a few minutes ago – a yarn I’ve had on backorder since early February finally came in, and the folks actually called me to let me know and see if I still wanted to place the order. It’s for the Misti alpaca lace that you already rescued me with, Jahdra – I don’t know if I’ll need it, but I figure it probably will come in handy for something. Since it’s such nice yarn. Maybe I’ll get a bunch in some other colors and do something else fun with it. Nothing like having too much yarn, right?
List of personal responses (and this is different how? ): tarra, don’t worry about keeping people straight or being able to respond to everyone. It’s hard to do even if you’re good at keeping people straight, mostly because of sheer volume.
SCL, congrats on the re-election. Sounds like it’ll be an interesting year. Does this mean that the old president was re-elected?
Nava, sounds like a very interesting strategy. How many employees are going to be willing to work harder because a consultant is telling them they need to? (I’m assuming they view you as an outsider…)
rigs, I am older than you, which gives me prior claim on Colin. So there!
Jahdra, that’s an adorable picture of Skunk!
Hank, how’s the thesis crap coming?
Al, it’s Thursday. Shouldn’t you be getting Meli signed up? (Oh, and she doesn’t actually have to be there for you to sign her up. Here are the instructions.)
Work seems to be a bit more under control, mostly because I’ve basically blown off all the annoying parts and sicced one of my best employees on other problem people. Ahh, the power of delegation.
Guess I’ll make an attempt at going to bed at a decent hour.
Tigs - the “machine” a rigging of sorts into which the leg is strapped. Then a motor gently (ha!) moves the contrapted (contraptionated?) leg back and forth, flexing and stretching the knee muscles for (IIRC) an hour at a time, 3 times a day. I will make sure to get a picture of it at some point during my stay.
VBob - I’m glad the Maddy saga is reaching an acceptable climax. But my question is how she is being cared for now. Is she with a good family?
Colin Firth - meh. Hugh Jackman - much yummmm!
It’s Thursday night and we’re only on page 4? These lists must be an efficient method of communication. Therefore we must abandon them for lenghty posts beset with colorful metafores and similies (and smilies ;))
Sad news from chorus tonight. Our former director and the sister of our current director are both in failing health. Our former director has been declining in dementia and pseudo-alzheimers for the last two years, and our current director’s sister is suffering diabetes related complications. I fear neither is long for this world. I shudder to think that the sister will leave us while we are all down in Philadelphia for competition. How awful that would be for our director. I suspect she will not be going with us, and that the assistant and associate directors will be taking us on stage.
LoW, the yarn isn’t itchy, it’s a 50/50 wool/soysilk blend. It’s fuzzy 'cause it’s been felted.
Congrats, SCL!
Too much yarn, BioTigs? What’s that mean? I understand each individual word, but not together in a sentence.
I’m going to Sonoma for the weekend! Yay! The hotel is either a fabulous retreat or a horrible rip-off, depending on the reviews. I’ll report back on which it was for me on Monday. I’m planning on a yarn crawl around Sonoma County, and then visits to various gardens and museums, including Snoopy.
Yays, boos, hugs to everyone who wants/needs them.
Oooh, I love felted stuff. I am right-this-minute wearing the soft alpaca felted slippers my friend Beth made for me, and I have a GORGEOUS felted bag she made for me too.
My uncle’s house which he inherited from his uncle is known as “la Palomera” (the dovehouse, the dovecot) because great-uncle kept messenger doves. Mom’s house is sometimes referred to as “el Mirador” because of its great views. My apartment is known as “la casa de verano”, the summer house, because it’s in the mountains and posh people from c. 1900 who had a house in the mountains called that one the summer house. I’m not posh, though.
GT, they’re all consultants. But a lot of consultants are extremely bad with both deadlines and delegating.
Too many alpha types who think nobody else will be able to get it right, so they pile up their platter with more than they can eat;
too many who are so busy running in place they can’t stop to explain (explain in writing? Are you crazy?) One of my Strange Work Strategies is to put things down in writing the first time I do them (that’s what you do when you’re a synthetic chemist, or an analytical chemist trying a new procedure) instead of doing them and trying to remember how the heck I did them five or six months later;
too many who wouldn’t ask for help if their guts were spilling out (I’m not good at asking for help myself, been working on it)
There’s some stuff we need to hand in today; I knew from a conversation with one of the bosses that he was worried about some parts which I’m familiar with. But the team’s in Germany, and on Fridays I’m in Switzerland training my future coworkers. So while the computer closed down, which takes it about 15’ because the stupid thing makes a backup of everything, I went to ask the bosses whether I should come in today. The big boss said I was the first person ever to ask, “all the others, they run under the door, don’t even say see you Monday”. Second boss and me went to verify some statuses and whether 1.Coworker was ok with wrapping up something I almost finished (but can’t finish until those statuses are “go”), 1.Coworker said sure, so I’m not in Germany. Did y’all get lost? Anyway, I’m such an eager beaver, should change my name to Ernestine. But it’s nice when people appreciate that kind of stuff and even more when you do not need to work extra
Morning, all! We lost to the Devils last night. The end of period horn got stuck on, so we played half a period with no scoreboard. They also had the SPCA there, with a couple of puppies. I don’t think I’ll get another one just yet, every time I baby sat a neighbor’s dog, sweet, loving Maggie Wonderbeagle turned into a fuzzy Hitler.

I see your blog rosie. Sorry about your director and director’s sister.
If 'im indoors got a name for his house, it would be “Condemned”.
That’s all for now. I’m spending yet another day photocopying committee papers and then I get to batch them up and walk around campus delivering them. It’s ok, there’s only 15 sets and it only involves every corner of the feckin’ place.
Did you walk up to the person and say “Hi, Opal!,” or “Do you have any spare 1920’s Style Death Rays,” or “How’s Ed Zotti doing?”
Aha, that makes more sense, Nava. Sounds like they picked like the right consultant for the task. OTOH, how come they didn’t have a plan before for ensuring their consultants are getting stuff done…? (Yeah, I know, that would be logical…)
Didn’t think to check comments, rosie, but I can see your blog…
Sonoma sounds like fun, Jahdra. You’ll be giving us a detailed report, right?
Speaking of which: who’s up for Monday? Seems like someone volunteered, but beats me if I can remember who.
She’s with a foster family that’s part of the rescue organization, which is what we did when we were part of Boxer Rescue. It’s a temporary home that provides comfort, training, and recuperation if necessary to a dog while the adoptive family is sought.
She’s finally getting her bad eye removed, which is something we were reluctant to do because of her heart murmur. It’s bad enough that there is a significant chance that she won’t survive the surgery, and our position was that as long as she didn’t rupture it, removal wasn’t necessary.
One of the funnier tidbits we learned in that late night call is that the foster home has 4 (!) Frenchies of their own, and Maddy has found herself a boyfriend in one of them. She’s absolutely devoted to him, to the point that he has a hell of a time finding some peace by himself. She fawns all over him, UNTIL he messes with one of her squeak toys, then she turns Tasmanian Devil. That’s my Maddy…
Last day of work for me for an entire week. Praise Og and pass the beer fridge!
Our system is down today, which means I can’t take any orders or look up pricing or availability or check backorders or do any of the sort of things most dealers need to do when they call. Still have a lot of calls to handle though, mostly by saying “Unfortunately, our system is down at the moment, so…”
It’s chilly out, too. Friggin’ -5°C with a wind chill doubling that. What happened to that lovely bit of spring? I want it back! There’s supposed to be a pretty big storm sweeping across Ontario and the northeastern states tonight, too. Fortunately I’ll be all nice and warm at home when that hits.
Oh, and my PayPal dispute with a dumbass seller should be decided today – by default, since the seller hasn’t responded to the complaint in the last 10 days, so that means I should have a bit of extra money for my vacation, too. Good, 'cos I’ll need it after getting caught up on the bills.
Happy Friday, everyone! The weather here is, not to put it too finely, YUK today; we’ve had an inch of rain since last night, and are supposed to get two more inches before the weather moves on. Plus it’s cooold again – what happened to spring? Yesterday the temp was over 70° midafternoon, and by dinner time it was down to 45° and still dropping. I wish I could just hibernate, but alas, I have physical therapy later this morning. Yuk again. At least I don’t have to drive – I’m not allowed to drive myself to PT since I have to take nice drugs before I go so I can exercise hard enough. Aw, shucks, more nice drugs.
So they’ll have you on a passive motion machine, Rosie? Won’t they have you working your muscles yourself, too? It sounds like your experience is going to be very different from mine. I would have loved to have a passive motion machine, but alas, no such luck.
You do know you’ll have to provide pictures of any yarn you get in Sonoma, right, Jahdra? Oh, and that reminds me, I still need to take a picture of the hat/scarf set I finished for Papa Tigs, plus the hat I did for my mom for her friend. And, it is devoutly to be hoped, my alpaca wrap which should be done soon; I’m halfway done with the final piece, then it’s just a whole pile of finishing. And then it’s on to my Lady Eleanor shawl, I hope. And at some point, I guess I have to do something besides sleep, surf the web, read, and knit, huh? I’d rather be independently wealthy so that this is all I have to do – I’m enjoying this life!
