We supped upon beast stew and corn bread. Nummy and just the thing on a cold day.
My uncle was my mother’s younger brother. I have one uncle left now, my father’s youngest brother who is 87. Weird. My generation is pretty much now the old folks.

Hey **Sahirrnee **I was up in your town last night! Work told us to drive until we saw snow, that’s where we ended up.
Went live from downtown Hagerstown. Interviewed an independent snow plow operator who was unhappy we haven’t had any real snow yet. Easy night.
{{Swampy}} I know what you mean, my only other relation besides my younger brother is a cousin I haven’t seen in 15 years. damn, we’re getting old.
A lot of the snow is gone, cold but sunny all day so evaporation came into play. warming starts tomorrow (one hopes).
Now have to go watch "The Martian" on FX. If you haven’t seen this movie, make some time and see it; if you have seen it, watch it again (it’s that good, IMHO)
I never get snow. They had snow in my old home town. I got a text with a puny little snowman. We are getting cold again. The low tonight is 52F with wind chill of 48F. If that happens it will be the coldest I have seen here. The record is 53F. Thank goodness we have heat.
Just checked and it’s going down to 51F
Just checked and it’s going down to 51F:eek: Good thing my new faux fur arrived today. I am not even joking.
{{{swampy}}} I’m down to two uncles and an aunt on Mom’s side (out of 14) and the aunt and one uncle are actually closer to my age than they were my mom’s. There is also one aunt by marriage. Dad is the last one standing of the five boys, but he has one sister in law still living.
I began to get one of my projects caught up today. Between holidays, snow days and doctor’s appointments, I’ve lost about a week this month.
It was -2F when I walked Nelson this morning. It has risen to a balmy 17F now. Like metal mouse, we’re supposed to hit sixty this weekend. While it snowed for the first three hours at irk, the main roads are now clear. I’ll be glad when this winter crap is over.
It’s in the 20s here and windy. After we ate, **FCD **needed to run into Lowe’s, and doggone was the walk across the parking lot cold!!! I’ve already turned my bed on to preheat. I don’t l like sleeping under an electric blanket normally, but I love crawling between pre-warmed sheets! So the bed should be toasty when I’m ready to crash.
When my dad died (15 years ago already!!) I got to thinking how my generation is next in line. Since then, his last surviving sister has died, as have my mom’s sister and one of her brothers as well as the uncle who was married to the youngest of Dad’s sisters. My mom and her brother Bob are the remnants of that tier - at least in my immediate famiily. They still have a few cousins - maybe half a dozen total?
And among my cousins, I’m in the middle - 5 older and 3 younger (7 younger if you include my sibs.) We range from late 40s to 75. I’ve lost 2 cousins - one older and one younger. And in our family, 2 more members of the next generation are on the way. Circle of life and all that…
Following that bit of musing, I need chocolate. Alas, we don’t have any.
I have no aunts or uncles left. I have a handful of cousins that I never see. But I haz my sister and she’s all I need. I’m watching the European Figure Skating championship with a kitteh sleeping on my lap. Life is good.
We got 6"(and it’s still going). Closed early ,since the power went out at 7:30. Didn’t have any trouble on the ice till I got to the apartment complex.
I bought a yellow onion.
{{{{swampy}}}}
How cool!
Long drive for you though, and 70 is so booooring.
All three of my mother’s brothers are still alive. One is widowed, one is divorced, and I don’t know if the last one is married or still just living with his gf. They have been together at least 30 years.
I still have 6 great aunts and uncles alive on her side. One brother and two sisters of my grandmother, and their spouses. They range in age from mid 80s to mid 90s.
None of my first cousins on that side have passed away. I am the oldest.
If you start getting into first cousins once removed and second cousins, and third cousins and twice and three times removed, so far of all the ones I grew up with and know well are still around. That side of the family is huge and in some instances I am closer to the more distant cousins than my first cousins.
My father’s side, of his 5 siblings, one brother and two sisters are still alive, as are my aunts - the widow of his older brother and the wife of his younger brother.
So far, none of us cousins have passed away.
I know my cousin’s husband is not doing well. He was exposed to agent orange and has been doing poorly for quite a while.
It’s supposed to start warming up tomorrow, and the weekend should be nice.
I would consider her at least a Tooney.
I did a double and them some today both in my usual branch of Da Jungle and the logistics side of Da Jungle. Just getting some active training when TPTB decide to allow me to be a treasonous bastard and honor my requests for transfer. That side of the building is like we all were a year or more ago – working hard but having some fun as well. With actual leaders and not just bosses. I am exhausted (I entered the building at 9am and left at 9:30pm) but its a good exhausted.
My prayers ascend for you and all the kinfolk and friends. May the peace granted him find a little place in our hearts as well. {{{{{Swampbear}}}}}
Good Mornin’ Y’all! Up and caffeinatin’. YAWN 'Tis 21 Amurrkin (wind chill makes it 13) out and clear with a predicted high of 48 and N.O.S. for the day. As others have said temps will be up in the 60s over the weekend. No biggie plans for the day which is fine by me. I may or may not get out and about.
Thanks y’all for all the hugs and condolences.
Now I need more caffeine and rumbly tummy is hungry. After that, well, anything goes!
Happy Thursday Y’all!
it was 16° when I let Higgs out, but the TV weatherfolk say milder weather is on the way. We shall see.
I woke thinking it was Firday. Dammit.
But I manged to get moving anyway, including reloading the dishwasher and starting it up before I left. **FCD **does the dishes, but he still doesn’t understand why I load the dishwasher the way I do. Hint: If you put all the plates together, it’s easier to take them out all together and put them away all together… How hard is that?? But really, it’s not a big deal. I do appreciate him taking care of the dishes after dinner, and it only takes me a few minutes to unload and reload. Heck, even when I load as we go along, after a couple of days, I may have to rearrange what I’ve done.
We don’t have enough with 2 of us to run the dishwasher more than twice a week, unless I go on a baking binge…
But that’s more than any of you wanted to know. Meanwhile, I’m at my desk, gearing up for another day of fun. rah.
Happy Thursday!
Lights went out at work; I warned the CIO that if they didn’t come back in 15’ I was going home. My laptop’s battery has been getting better but it still doesn’t hold anywhere near as long as it’s supposed to, and the room where we work is your typical black box with no natural light. I could have moved to my boss’ office, but that wouldn’t have eliminated the wheee-wheee of the multitude of alarms.
When 15’ were up, with people saying “well, so let’s have coffee” “we can’t, and no drinking water either”, I did leave.
I think I crossed the repairman as I left. But damn it’s so nice to work in a place where there isn’t anything going wheee-wheee-wheee!
(((((Swampy))))), my condolences to you. I also have a limited supply of relatives left, apparently there are some aunts and cousins on my dad’s side but I have very little contact with them. My mum knows the aunts more than I do so they’re kind of vaguely over there somewhere…
We have had a bit of all sorts of weather this week. Snow (just a dusting, about as much as Swampy got), hail, wind and rain, then gales and apparently more threats of white stuff. I am considering a late attempt at hibernation!
No other news really, we have some building work going on here so it’s a bit noisy today. If you want to talk to me, you’ll have to shout over the drilling and hammering…
Up, caffeinated, and sheveled. Off today. It’s an icy mess out there.
Happy Thorsday!
It’s a bright and N.O.S. 18 degrees outside.
Originally TWPTB said it was going to be in the 40s today, that has been changed to the 30s, but at least it’s still supposed to be above freezing.
I’m not feeling too badly this morning considering the dog and cat woke me at 3:30, going at it again.
Not much on the agenda today.
Just irk and house stuff.
The two baby engineers in the office were talking to the boss. Said the one who shares my office: “What’s MS-DOS?”
<headdesk>
I guess this will get me ready for my grandbaby, who also doesn’t know what MS-DOS is…
Had typed a nice long message and then hit the wrong key and it got et. So short summary.
17F going up to 38F, so snow should be gone.
Nava, where I used to work, we had to wait an hour or until the bosses decided we could go home. Got some good naps.
Mopped the kitchen floor yesterday, first time in…well, too long. Will try to do better.
Turns out Kindle needs wireless and I’m still on the landline. Guess I’ll have to join the 21st Century…again.
