A Melancholy MMP

hi
later
bye
ok - this time I am saying YAY for being first (I didn’t realize it yesterday until I was home and saw the whole page (I keep my internet window very small so as not to be obvious on the BIG W I D E screen monitor)

Wow. I’ve already sent out food for 15 people and no one else has posted yet?? :stuck_out_tongue:

Sorry Pie - just got back from a 1.5 hour lunch break at Chili’s, and will shortly be heading out again for coffee with a friend - I don’t want to work too hard, now do I???

Afternoon, Mumpers! Only eight more working days to go, and only twelve things on my priority list, plus a bunch of other things that aren’t “priority”. Somebody really needs to explain to TK what “priority” means.

My only sensible colleague has been off sick since Monday and looks likely to be off for the rest of the week as she’s pregnant and has slightly raised blood pressure so her doc’s told her to stay at home and rest. Guess who’s doing her job in the meantime? Oh, is that a “priority” too?

Ho hum. Better get on, I’ve got handover notes to write…

Dang dotty slow down and take a break. No one should work that hard!

Good Mornin’ Y’all! I just completed my mornin’ commute. Traffic was light today. I didn’t have to slow down even once all the way from the kitchen to the study.

snowbunny I know you did not “bless yore heart” me not once but twice. I’m sure I really didn’t see that, now did I? :dubious:

:stuck_out_tongue:
Ok, gotta get busified here.

Later Y’all!

I’m having a hard time getting re-motivated to start working again. And what makes it even more exciting is that I’m not sure if one of my lunches eats at 11:30 or 12:00.

Hmm… Guess I’d better go.

[Inigo Montoya]I do not think that word means what you think it means[/IM]
Am up but exhausted. Had very broken sleep all night. Dreamed of here and Scrabble games. One dream featured Vundie (why him I’ll never know)posting a remark about me, “We all know your posts are perfect, you never do A, you never do B, you always work things out” in a snarky way. I took high umbrage at that and left the bb, (after posting a flaming response, of course), only to find that he didn’t mean that way at all…So, I went to make Hamburger Helper and put all the ingredients (including the Romaine  ) in the boiling water–in a double boiler, no less. And that was the GOOD dream!

Gack–our Vunders would never do such a thing.

Hot today.

Good luck, Pie!
Trying to get my eyes refocused. We just woke up again (thank heaven Nat went back to sleep) and I was havbing one of the terrible work dreams where everything is new and I can’t make anything work and everyone is all frowny.
Sigh. I’m thinking about giving up dairy for a week to see if it helps Nat at all. He’ss still got tummy problems, and while he’s fine in the day (more or less) he keeps waking up with cramps. I’ll phone the doctor but I doubt we’ll get an appointment until next week sometime.

Blaaargh.

Someone needs to inform the city that 7am is NOT an acceptable time to start jackhammering directly in front of my house. I can’t do perky if I’ve been rattled awake, dagnabbit.

Okay, got a bit of time now … at work, more caffeination in progress, plus some brekkies as well (bagel and fruit!).

Such a bizarre event, it’s hard to know where to start. Up front, I live directly behind the rental office unit in my apt. complex, and on the ground floor too. There’s been several times when people have knocked on my bedroom window, thinking it’s the rental office.

That’s what happened last night. Except … it was nearly 12:30 AM, I was asleep, and people were -banging- on the window. Unfortunately, while they were both speaking in English, it was not their first language, and I could barely understand what they were saying! I did figure out that they wanted the rental office, and hollared, “this is not the rental office,” although I was still half asleep. That wasn’t the answer she wanted, however, and she kept banging on the window, “ask your husband to come out and let me in!” she hollared (I think). I just called out again, “I’m sorry, this isn’t the rental office, we don’t have anything to do with the rental office,” but again, she was nearly hysterical and her English was getting worse by the minute.

At this point, I was sitting up in bed and my daughter had come back to the back (my bedroom is the furthest away from the entrance, down a hall and around a corner even) to see what all the commotion was. Even my SO came back, and when he went to the window, I guess that scared the women and they ran off, but they came directly back. Just before my SO came into the room, they had started banging on my window, asking, “Are you going to come out?!” they hollared, to which I replied, “Uh… no!” and then commenced to banging on the window to the point where I thought they were going to bust it.

As I said, my SO, whose voice is rather deep, must have scared her. I could hear her banging on the window of the real manager’s apartment. Then my daughter, who had been washing dishes, went outside to see what it was that she wanted. Apparently, she had locked herself out of her apartment and didn’t have another set of keys. She had just gotten home from work, and that’s when she discovered that she didn’t have her keys. Friends dropped her off, and stayed with her for a while, as she attempted to find the manager to let her in, but by the time my daughter went outside, the friends had left. So yes, what she wanted was for someone with keys to come and let her into her apartment. Only I’m not sure that was going to happen, because the on-site manager is on vacation; he went to his home country and won’t be back until next month. His cousin, who is filling in, I don’t think is living onsite. What she could have done was to call the regular number, which would have the after-hours recording on, which would have given an emergency number to call, which she could have called.

I don’t know whether or not she got into her apartment last night, but to say that I was rudely jolted out of bed after midnight… yes; so I don’t really care too terribly much if she ever did get into her apartment. And I bet I’ll not get an apology either.

Wow… what do you have rattling around in your subconscious?

LiLi- glad you got some extra sleep! I also cut out cruciferous (sp?) veggies (broccoli, cabbage, cauliflower etc) when I was nursing- that seemed to help the little guy tummy as well.

Lunch- Really, really glad you are ok.

(Hoping Vunders doesn’t critique my post…)

I swear I read everything, but hellifino what the hell I just read. ‘Cept for Tarra’s post. Dayum! I’d have gone out there and given them a piece of my mind! Such rudeness! Why the hell didn’t they knock on the freakin’ door like a civilized hooman???

Diabetics can’t (shouldn’t) drink sweet tea.

Later, gators…

Good morning everybody!

Hello, ** SmartAleq ** , I’ve been lurking a fair bit instead of posting. This is why you have not seen me.

Morning, NOONE!

Hello, Nava, how’s it going?

Lissa, I haven’t had my coffee either, so I almost understood what you said.

Hello, Pie. We did meet, briefly – when I left you were just starting. But nice to meet you again. shakes hands Also, good luck.

Tarragon, that person is a jackass. I have been locked out of my apartment once or twice and I would never dream of “knocking someone up” as the English put it. (:D) How obnoxious, and not a good way to meet your neighbors at all.

As for tea, I really prefer lemonade… Actually, I really prefer flavored seltzer water. It’s:

all natural flavoring
no additives or preservatives
no sodium
no sugar

basically it’s just carbonated water with a bit of flavoring.

And now the dramatic news…,

I bought an XBOX 360 last night. I have been a faithful Playstation fan for years and years but the PS3 is just too expensive for my blood. But Final Fantasy drew me.

But yesterday they came out with an announcement that the next FF would be on both platforms! And this weekend they dropped the price of the XBOX! So I opened up my piggy bank, which had over $100 in it - enough to pay for a third of the price, and off I went. The only game I got right now was “Viva Pinata” - talk about a girl game!

Thanks everyone for the good thoughts for Mom. I talked to her last night, and she sounds good. They’re doing a colonoscopy and some other procedure today to look for internal bleeding, but they don’t really think that’s what it is. (She should have noticed other symptoms if she was bleeding internally.) So we’re still waiting to see what’s wrong, but after 4 units of blood, she’s feeling better. And she was pretty upbeat last night. A bunch of their neighbors were visiting when I called, which I think helped a lot.

We’re not “down” here! We’re “up” here! :stuck_out_tongue: Things are good. New house, work’s fine, cat’s fine, hamster’s fine. That pretty much sums it up.

I went to the 2nd meeting of a book club that just formed with some coworkers and coworkers’ friends. It was fun, but we had a really tough time coming up with a book to read for next time. We all have different taste, and it’s hard to find one book that’ll please ~10 people. What do those of you who are in book clubs do to find a book that everyone can agree on? And is there any way to convince the group that we should read somewhat older books that might be more easily available at the library? Sure, I *can *afford to buy a book every 6 weeks or so for book club, but when I may not like it all that much anyway, I’m not big on shelling out $$. But half the group wants to read the just-out-in-paperback (We’ve at least convinced them to stay away from hard cover.) books that the library doesn’t have enough copies of to keep up with requests. It’s not like there aren’t good books that came out 5 years ago! Or even older books! Sheesh.

I don’t feel like being at work today. I’m sort of considering taking the afternoon off if I don’t have anything that has to get done. It seems like a good day to veg out at home.

The problem (she says, over her yogurt- look, I’m not throwing out a $6 container of 10% m.f. yogurt, I’ll start at lunch, okay? :D) is that leaves almost nothing to eat. Okay, almost nothing I normally eat. I just checked my cereal and It’s fine and I could get almond milk, but my natural instinct is to live on dairy and bread, with occasional veg.
How’s the Stupid Student drama going, Soapy?

tarra, I would have killed them. How annoying. Being locked out is awful, but, lord, guys, banging and trying to intimidate people who don’t have the fracking keys to your house will not help.
We’re laundrifying, and going to run a few errands before tidying and starting to pack for the weekend. I hope to spend the weekend lounging and eating my step-MiL’s awesome cooking while the grands and great-grands entertain my baby. I’ll be drinking wine.

Actually, that sounds just terrible. Not that I don’t think good books come out all the time, I just resent having to read anything off the “best-seller’s” list unless I want to on my own.
See, I would probably have joined a specific book club, like “Classics Book Club” or something, but since you are just starting up…

Who picks the books? Can you alternate who picks them, and everybody just sticks by it? Make a schedule? That way those who want new books can pick the new books and those who want some variety will get it, too.

Book clubs are supposed to expose you to books you wouldn’t normally read, IMO, not keep you within your comfort zone!

Hi, all. Zooming by. I read everything but retained virtually nothing; it must have been Bad Sleep Night last night. First I couldn’t get to sleep, then I couldn’t stay asleep, then I had to get up early anyway because I’ve got a Last-Minute Super-Rush Job to get done today before we leave town tomorrow. Good thing I did all the laundry yesterday!

The only thing that registered, and it registered so profoundly that, as Og is my witness, I gasped out loud in horror, was Swampy’s preferences in tea.  And you call yourself a Southerner! Bless your little heart!

Anyway, great to see you again, Meeks; I still love the music you sent, and I’m sorry to see you go! Do come back to us, please, okay? All these good folks are leaving because the (*&@#$ admin folks can’t decide when/if to go free. ::grumble grumble::

Okay, gotta zoom back to work. Piles of it, plus packing, before I have to get up even earlier than FCM normally does to get to the airport tomorrow for our flight to Wisconsin for the pow wow. So if I’m not online again for a day or two, don’t be surprised. Everybody behave, now, as much as you’re capable of, anyway!

I have more music, Tigs. My brother sent me 26 CDs some time ago. I am still working through them. I will eventually split them up and send them out…if you can forward them to GT again (if she still wants them) that would be cool.

Hey- thanks for asking. The President, my chair and my Dean have all come out in strong support of me-- basically gave the studnet a boilerplate response- “sorry you’ve had a problem blah, blah.”

Basically he’s said he’s going to continue his education elsewhere (funny, that’s how he ended up here- wanted to finish his education elsewhere…). So idon’t think it will be a future problem.

Still pretty pissed, but feeling much better.

Hi Meeks- seen you around other threads, but I’m relaltively new to the MMP.

Taxi- the book club I’m (newly) in also has book choosing problems! One solution is just to assign a member to each month and let them choose- no complaining aloud! We use the tried and true “dominant personality” method

Hi, Tower, I know who you are!
