Glad you got rid of that student. Prof. R! Sometimes teaching can be a thankless job.
Am so tired. I was stressed out because of classes last night so after work I went out drinking with two of my co-workers (who also were in training with me): N, who is a very nice and softspoken girl and also a fellow alumna of Korea University, and L, who was the cute guy from LA I might’ve mentioned before. N left early, and L and I went to another bar and ran into a friend of his, as well as a handful of our other co-workers (all dudes). The co-workers we ran into are a bunch of charming bachelors who drive motorbikes and love getting drunk - one of them asked me what I was going to do with my first paycheck and I unthinkingly responded: “Hookers and blow.” This got a
response from them.
Anyway L and I stayed out until 4:30am. Hence the tiredness. I think he was kind of flirting with me, but with drunk guys it’s hard to tell. :dubious:
On a scrapbooking website I go to there was a post about a swap called “Jar of Whimsy.” Basically you decorate up a jar and will it with bits and pieces of whimsey. It sounds like a blast. I’m a bit unsure of doing a swap there, but I think it might be fun. Decisions, decisions.
rigs, if you friend Spaz on LJ everything shows up–by the way, Spaz, I friended you on LJ!
Nooner, you’ll never know for sure now, will you? Did I mention I still fit in my old Elizabethan bodices from 20 years ago? Did you have to pull a foot or so of upholstery outta your ass after that little driving escapade?
I played hooky today because I just wasn’t feeling up to par and I have been a slothful couch potato all day long. Disgusting, I tellya! Himself is still off being GamerBoy and the house is still nice and quiet–I haven’t even kicked on the Foobar or nothin’. Didn’t watch a movie or tv or anything but I am all caught up on various intarwebz errands I’ve been meaning to get around to. WTF did I used to do before there was such a thing as the internet? Probably rubbed it out a lot more often, heh heh…
Oh, Herbs, if you ever get another late night window knocker I can attest that the sound of a shotgun being racked will cause even the most clueless to scatter. I have several friends who keep unloaded shotguns near the door just for such a purpose and it’s chillingly effective.
I’m boring today… and I like it!
Hullo my peoples!
Just a quick drive by to say nighty-night. Long day at work, to be followed by an every longer day tomorrow. The hours will be the same, it just feels long because of a project I’m working on.
I plum forgot I have to go to a wedding this weekend. It’s on the coast, so we need to make hotel reservations. My daughter can’t go because she’ll be working. I’m not sure my son will even want to go. Frankly, I don’t really want to go, but it’s my husband’s nephew, so we’ll be a good auntie and uncle and attend the wedding.
The above paragraph means that a nice quiet Friday is out of the question for me. I now have to shop for a wedding present. I was hoping to get my hair done, but now it’s too late to get in with the gal that does my hair. I need to a root job done on the highlight and trim my hair a little. My hair just grows so damn fast.
Well, I should go to bed. I’m tired, but not sleepy tired. I foresee a restless night…sigh.
Morning all. Last day of work in this [del]shit-hole[/del]lovely place of employment!
Going out for dinner tonight - hubby’s 35th birthday is tomorrow, so we are going out for dinner with friends to celebrate him bein’ old! Well, he’ll be old until I turn 35 too, in about 3 weeks’ time, at which point we will both revert to being sexy young parents!
Off to have some breakfast and surf the internets for fun games to while away the day - had loads of fun playing Gigolo Assassin yesterday (no link, probably NSFW, seeing the hero is a guy wearing a tuxedo jacket and a red, sparkly thong (aka banana hammock!
)).
I am up. Full blown insomnia. Blah. Hate it.
Yay for last day of work, Dotty!
Ugggggh note to self: do not go drinking with co-workers on a worknight ever again.
ETA: Hey, Mika. Welcome to the night shift.
Meeks, Ivory… I see you’re doing well with your plundering without me.
Just give me a shout-out before you start the pillaging, eh?
Well, if you’re going to refuse to post any evidence, I may just have to come over and check things out in person!
One more claim that needs to be substantiated…
Actually, no… I tend to stay cool “under fire,” as it were. After the fact, too – didn’t even have to stop to get my nerves back.
I did however release a stream of invective, mostly covering about 50 ways of describing my opinion about the other driver’s intellectual abilities… Nothing anatomical, actually. Don’t know why, I usually don’t shy from a “f*** you” or three… just didn’t.
**Dotty **-- Yay on last day in [del]hell[/del] that office! And… *you *can’t *revert *to being a sexy young parent, you know…
**Flutter **-- vacations abroad are so cool! It means you tell the people at work to sod off for two weeks – no “I know you’re on vacation, but just a quick question…”
Dunno about the $'s. Every time I’m sure the USD exchange rates must be hitting rock bottom, they go down again (local currency that was worth a $1US 2 years ago, is now worth nearly $1.5) But it could go up just in order to mess with you, if you put off buying them… All in all, I’d say wait until the last minute, though – it’s so much money you still have on you in case of emergency, if nothing else.
ETA: That sucks, **Meeks **
ETA2: How’s the head, Haze!?
(more seriously, sorry you’re feeling the effects badly…
At least you’re halfway through the ay already!)
Thanks, Haze, but I need my sleep. I was supposed to be up early tomorrow, too.
thanks. e-mail me if you have time.
Yeah - I guess you need to have been sexy and young in the first place, if you’re gonna revert to it at some point!
:: sings a lullaby to Meeks :: Rock-a-bye baby, in the treetops … (been singing that one a lot lately!)
thanks, dotty.
Hi all
Li-Li’s friends sound like they should follow “the real mediterranean diet.” The one books don’t tell you about. The one my great-grand-grandparents from up north ate. The one which involved very little wheat, lots and lots and lots of beans, with a piece of “meat” (usually a piece of sausage or bacon) for the patriarch on sundays. Are they also allergic to egg?
My celiac boss eats gluten-free pasta but won’t try corn tortillas because “they use the same mills for corn and wheat, there’s lots of contamination.” I’ve refrained from pointing out that, if this was the case, the gluten-free pasta would have the same problem and make her sick (it doesn’t). She was stunned yesterday when another coworker and myself mentioned that we never, ever put flour in sauces other than bechamel - matter of fact, I’d never even heard of such a practice until I met Sheboss. I’m 40, you’d think if “everybody” did it in “every sauce” I’d’a heard of it before. Having a food allergy is a PITA (said the low-level lactose intolerant) but adding bad information on top of it makes it even more painful.
At work we’ve been told we have to change our budget forecasting program (which currently is set up to be as realistic as possible) to use a completely theoretical function. Leaving aside the question of wtf would anybody with a switched-on brain want that, the function we’ve been given doesn’t work :smack: so I’ve returned it to sender with questions. Other than wait for that and prepare a report explaining how both functions work (which I can’t finish until I get the info), all I have today is - nothing to do. Thinking seriously of taking a “sick day” just because
**Nava **-- if you’re bored, I’ve got lots and lots of work I’d be happy to let somebody else do…
And of course TPTB don’t want you forecasting using a realistic function! You might shatter their business models that they’ve painstakingly rammed down the Board’s throat!
This is the most recent MMP. Cool.
Wierd Al Yankovic is playing at Chessaning tonight. My daughter is a big fan of his, so I purchased tickets a while ago. As said daughter had her 1st child (my 2nd grandson) a week ago Saturday, we (my husband & I) are babysitting our grandson. I admire dopers who know how to post pics. I don’t; my husband is still figuring how to work the viewfinder on his camera.
Has anyone else seen Wierd Al Yankovic’s concert? Any comments?
Love, Phil
It’s not the alcohol, it’s more the lack of sleep. And my day starts at 4pm, so actually it’s just started.
Thank God tomorrow is Firday!
I am craving a salad.
IIRC, Thursday is one of your half-days? I hope?
And… what time zone are you in, anyway? Isn’t it GMT+9 (so it would be 5:45 PM there right now? About halfway through classes?)
:fervently: Amen! And thank Og too!
My half-days are Monday and Saturday. And my classes end at 10pm, so not quite halfway. Boo.
Oops… sorry
Do you at least get a decent break in the middle, to eat some kind of dinner? Or are you expected to teach 6 hours straight without eating anything during that time?
morning all, up and caffeinating here. Haze, it’s good to know that you’re still the same, whether in Korea or the U.S. - and your sense of humor survives too!
Hookers and blow … LOL!!
I will hopefully get in early today. And thankfully, there was no knocking on my window last night!
