A Melancholy MMP

Everyday is Friday when you’re on summer vacation…

d&r

So, the little stinker decides at 8:50 am that she’s actually feeling OK and would like to go to camp. :smack:

Rush, rush, rush and I got her there about 30 minutes late. My son is still in bed, pretty sick.

Mornin’. Up. Caffeinated. Praying for a slow day. (Been pretty slow to moderate so far, but then a slow morning usually means an insane afternoon.)

Teh Sick is in remission. Still there a bit, but I can breathe and I’m not sniffling or sneezing, so I’m happy about that.

I still haven’t answered JesusBoy, and I don’t think I’m going to. I figure that anything I tell him that doesn’t fall in line with his worldview will be seen as an offense anyway, so, though it is in itself rude to do so, I figure letting him sit in limbo will avoid the whole giving offense thing.

Mind you, I did crack a bit of a mild religious crack in a recent article (“You thought I was going to make a sacrilegious joke here, didn’t you? Well I’m not. I was smote an hour ago, so I’m spent.”) that may or may not be deemed offensive, so I guess we’ll see if it garners a response.

Meanwhile, it’s back to work. Bleh.

Hi, all! Very busy day yesterday and today so appropriate comments all round.

swampy, I think they made this Target commercial just for you!

I get to do that anyway cuz I don’t have a crackberry and no one has my number… so when I leave I leave! But it’ll be nice to have a week of not worrying about it. Dad tells me I need to buy right now (of course this is the guy telling me it takes 6 weeks to get my passport when the official website says two and I was told by end of month at the office…). I’m thinking I might buy some now, put it in my safe deposit box, and the rest can sit in the account until then. That way I do have it and I’m not tempted to spend my vacation money.

Back to work, hey my coffee is still warm and its been three hours since I poured it…

We’re getting thunderboomers here. Which really is good because we need the rain.

Mom went home from the hospital yesterday. Thanks again for your thoughts and prayers. She’s not bleeding internally so that’s good but they found a healed-over ulcer so that might have been why/how she was losing blood. So we’re just hoping she stays healthy now. I think they’re doing more tests, but at least she doesn’t have to be in the hospital.

Thanks also for the book club suggestions. I’ll see how the next meeting goes and then pass on the ideas to the coordinator. We’re not meeting at people’s houses - we didn’t want to have to worry about the cleaning ahead of time, making food, the differences in people’s ability to make food and the resulting stress over it, and the cleanup afterwards. So we just meet at a restaurant. So no real hostess, but I don’t see why we couldn’t assign a “hostess” who gets to pick the book and the location. But possibly from the library list so we don’t have to spend money. And with an agreed-upon limit for what the restaurant should cost. I’ll float that idea next time.

Or maybe I’ll just decide that a book club’s not really for me. I wonder if anyone would be interested in a knitting or a craft club. Mostly I want to get out of the house and do something with people, expand my circle of friends. And I want to get past being superficial friends with people. I have lots of acquaintances, but no (local) really good friends. And it’s hard to become close friends with people if you don’t get together regularly. So that’s really what I’m looking for.

Anyway, I finally picked one little grape tomato from my patio plant last night. It was good! And I grew it myself! There are 3 more that are almost ripe and a ton more that are green. We’ll have tomatoes coming out our ears in a couple weeks!

And KT installed our new Toto toilet last night. It’s all shiny and new and snazzy. And it’s supposed to be able to flush… well, just about anything we can throw at it! Yay! No more plunging the toilet. We will have to ask anyone who comes to visit to use the downstairs toilet for, um… anything substantial because the upstairs toilets are still the low-flow kind. But at least we have one super effective toilet in the house now. That’s my almost TMI for the week. :stuck_out_tongue:

Sounds like a stutterer’s dream of a thundermug there, taxi, “the to-to-TOILET!” Heh heh…

Mork, I’m feeling your pain about JesusBoy there–a co-worker sent me one of those awful many times forwarded, retardedly overfonted/rainbow texted MISSIVES!!! that irritate me so, this one was especially mean spirited. Imagine the following on a black background, gigantic colorful fonts, many redundant line breaks so the whole thing scrolls down for like a month (I could code it that way but I’ll be damned if I make the effort!):

I usually let this sort of thing slide, but this guy has been sending me a lot of this kind of stuff and it’s to a business email address so I finally broke my usual habit and responded thusly:

I don’t think it will do much good in the overall scheme of things but at least he did apologize to me for sending it, which is all to the good. The really ironic thing about this guy sending me all this christian glurge is that he said to me, in so many words, that he ain’t getting any at home and he’d be extremely happy if I’d entertain a “friends with benefits” arrangement with him. Shoot, doesn’t Jesus have something to say about adulterers, fornicators, deceivers and liars? Silly me, of course a godless pagan such as myself could never understand the intricacies of the saved, holy and forgiven to be sure.

Nooner, promises, promises! :stuck_out_tongue:

Yargh, I need to get productive or something…

Anybody else following the new release from Joss Wheadon? It’s a new super hero web-based musical that’s impossible to describe, but I;m loving it… Part II was released today.

http://boards.straightdope.com/sdmb/showthread.php?t=473539&page=1&pp=50

here’s the thread.

I’ll be watching part II tonight from home… I am loving it though, and will totally be buying it when it’s on DVD. (I like Whedon’s stuff though I wouldn’t describe myself as a Whedonite… hell I still haven’t finished Buffy, Angel OR Firefly and I own all of them…)

Vroom, screech!

:Drive-by, waves:

Vroom!

SmartAleq, I got that too, only I got it from a volunteer at work, so I can’t even correct him. Every day I get at least 2 glurge-y e-mails from him, but I can’t say anything. It makes me grrr.

Take off and nuke him from orbit, Mika, it’s the only way to be sure! Today coworker apologized in person and I got a chance to pull the “gee, I sure thought you were smarter than that” line on him–plus it gave me a chance to point out that number one on that list, John Lennon, made that comment (which was taken wildly out of context, I might add) in like 1963, then he went on to become one of the richest, most famous and adored musical figures of all time, married his soulmate and had many happy years with her, raised a couple of fine sons and finally died at an assassin’s hand–who says he did it because God told him to. Hardly the sort of swift and apropos divine justice they were trying to prove there…

Apparently God works in mysterious ways! Really mysterious!

Plus none of these people ever think - God is killing them for saying something bad about Christianity, once? What if they came to God after? What if they spent their whole lives being a Christian de facto, never acknowledging it?

I would be afraid to live in this particular brand of Christianity, honestly. The volunteer I told you about, sends me huge inbox-clogging pics of Jesus Christ (blond and blue eyed!) and all kinds of other such things. Bill Gates really is giving out money, all of us atheists are trying to get prayer banned from EVERYWHERE EVEN IN THE PRIVACY OF YOUR HOMES and oh, by the way, anybody anywhere who even so much as implies we are in Iraq for no good reason automatically wants the troops to DIE.

The thing is, in person, he is the nicest guy. Just a big old teddy bear. Le sigh.

mika I suggest talking to TPTB about making work email for work related business only. That’s the rule where I work. I get no glurge/stoopid now. YAY!!!

taxi yay for mom going home. Hope she continues to get better.

I’s tahred! I’ve funeralized, served lunch, mowed and gone on a beer run. Wally*World had it cheaper than my friendly neighborhood liquor sto which is unusual. Plus I got food. BooFae I’m a guy. Beer and water are a reason to pee. I don’t need to use tp when I pee. So There! :stuck_out_tongue: Oh and I bought a case of tp at Sam’s Club.

Puggy cute commercial. Too bad I don’t shop at the local Target since I got all poed at ‘em. Speakin’ of which, I did complain to Target corporate about the manager and I got a letter apologizin’ for the bad experience. Of course, as long as said manager is still there I won’t shop there.

ETA: Lest Walls think I’m dissin’ her employer, I’m not. I’ll shop at Target elsewhere, just not at the local store. Cause they have an idiot manager.

Hi.

Argh.
BUSY!!!

Head hurts.
Still hate Excel.
Also hate the humidity and heat.
Wish it would damn well rain already.
Hate VLOOKUP a little bit less, though.

That is all.

zoooooooooooooooom

Actually, we did that, and that stopped coworkers from sending us anything like that. However, we can’t tell volunteers that, they are our donors.

Got off work on time today, then sat on the bridge for 10-15 minutes waiting for the construction guys to move their crap. Afterwards, I had to run to the store, so I’ve only been home about 20 minutes.

And you can go ahead and uncross fingers and such, **FCD ** didn’t get his dream job. :frowning: I’m sad for him on one hand, but on the other, it would have meant a longer commute than he’s doing now, which would have made for a killer long day. He had a feeling it wasn’t going to happen, and it looks like he was right. Oh well, at least he’s still employed, much as he hates NASA.

Glad tomorrow’s finally Firday. My baby will be coming home for 2 nights, bringing at least one of her friends home. Daughter is the one who needs to be worrying about a job. Nary a call on her applications to the schools, and I fear it’s because when she applied, she put down her Florida phone number. She’s now got a Md number, and she called the school board to let them know, but I still wonder. And indoc starts Aug 11 - you’d think someone would have called her for an interview by now… And yet, she doesn’t apply anywhere else…

I need a vacation. But **FCD ** has burned up all of his days off, anticipating the new job. Since that isn’t going to happen, neither will the fall vacation I kinda hoped we’d be able to take. I’m so tired of being tired. Honestly, I haven’t had significant time off to just relax in at least 8 years. Driving to Florida to see the inlaws for the holidays doesn’t count.

Maybe I’m just sad. :frowning:

I just hit delete on forwards without reading them. There are only 2 people who send them to me now, and I just ignore them. It’s not worth getting upset over. To me anyway.

Thunderboomers went away and now it’s sunny out. Looks like a nice afternoon. I really don’t have much that I have to do… I wish I could just go out to play. But, while we’re not clock-watchers here, leaving more than an hour early for no reason wouldn’t go over all that well. Oh well. I’ll try to sneak out 15 min early.

I’m taking tomorrow off. Yay for sleeping in and having some time to relax!

Aw damn, FCM. Hugs to you; I hate to see you blue.

I’m sorry that FCD didn’t get his dream job, but maybe that means something better is coming his way.

{FCM} Maybe you could take a day or two for yourself?

Sorry you’re blue…

LiLi, you say Nat’s crawling now? Time to use that to your advantage.

In other news, CFI thinks that I’ve just used two months of my student loan payback grace period. I’m seriously going to shoot every single soulless husk that inhabits the financial aid offices. I will have my money and I will have those two months credited back to me.
