A mile of the MMP

Squirt even if you’re close and he knows it’s you. It’s fine if he knows you’re punishing him, so long as you’re catching him in the act. It’s also ok, if you raise your voice and make the “no” pretty sharp sounding when his claws come out when he accidentally gets you with his claws. He needs to learn. You can also (not kidding) hiss at him. He may get offended and leave, but I think you’re bonded now. Make nice with head scratches and so one when he comes back and all will be forgiven.

The winning ear worm is still "Jeremiah was a bullfrog" which I have been singing to the kids all day.

I agree with the hissing, either using your own voice or a compressed air can (aimed away from kitty, of course). That’s how Mama Kitty corrects her kittens, so he’d remember that from his infancy.

Good Mornin’ Y’all! Up and caffeinatin’. YAWN 'Tis 49 Amurrkin out and partly cloudy (well, actually it’s dark but TWPTB say partly cloudy) with a predicted high of 75 and mostly N.O.S. for the day. Today we shall deheathenate, I have ush duty, and then have a <snerk> Quickie <snerk> N.O.L. Other than that, who knows!

Now I need more caffeine and rumbly tummy demands to be fed. Purtification for deheathenization must also ensue at some point.

Happy Sunday Y’all!

Why would I be awake before 6am on a Sunday?

Blurf!!

OK, dream analysts, get ready to analyze.

I was babysitting (something I haven’t done since college!!!) and I decided to have a little Mumpfest while tending to the kids. I only invited a couple of you over (don’t ask - none of you looked like you, nor were your names right, either) but for some reason, a whole bunch showed up, and I didn’t have enough food. We talked about ordering pizza, but then I woke up to pee…

Back in bed, the dream renewed the next day when I was babysitting again at the same house and more people had been invited but everyone was bringing food. People kept coming up to me whispering “We don’t know which one is Poppy!” (So now we need a Mumper nicknamed Poppy.) Then we laid out all the food and I was trying to record a song off the TV with my tablet.

Then I was using the tablet to try to call FCD because we were supposed to be taking the #3 Baynesville bus in Baltimore to the end of the line, then walk to my mom’s house (a mere 10 miles farther on.) But a tablet isn’t a phone, then Taz started yowling and jumping on our door, and I woke up.

Ready, begin!

We’re promised sun and mid-40s today. **FCD **and I are planning to go to the 10AM showing of LaLaLand, then to Red Robin so I can collect my birthday burger (gotta do it before the end of the month.) After that, we’ll come home and he’ll watch football, and I should be able to finish the afghan.

Did I mention that last week I ordered a couple of big shakers so’s I could make up some cinnamon sugar for toast? Well, the shakers arrived on Thurs and I ran them thru the dishwasher. This morning, I mixed up my first batch of cinnamon sugar and filled one of the shakers. Breakfast was cinnamon toast. Go me!

And a Happy Sunday to all!

Mooooom, now you’ve made me hungry for cinnamon toast.:stuck_out_tongue:

Still in my jammies, but fixing to purtify. I’m making carrot ginger soup to take to a potluck this evening. This particular potluck does courses and the main course is pork roast, so the sweetness and ginger should go well with it. Off to the kitchen! :stuck_out_tongue:

That sounds good. I might like to make something like that if there were instructions as to how to do it. bats eyes

It’s time for the weekly Clean All the Things marathon in the Stately Turret. It looks like it’s going to extend into the yard because now I can see all the stuff the snow covered up last week. If I’m feeling brave I might even tackle the end of the driveway because all the stones have been washed onto the asphalt and I keep skidding on them when I brake.

Ditto, missred, can you post a recipe, or a link?:dubious:

We didn’t get near the ice that was predicted, not that I’m complaining. Church was still a pretty thin crowd though. When one looks outside it seems icy, as it’s wet and still dripping a little. But the temp is juuuust above freezing.

I’m actually thinking of going over to the Celtic Fox, a tavern where the guitars and bands are playing a fest called Jam4Dan. It’s been ten years since the first one, which was a fundraiser to help pay for a funeral. Dan Falley was a noted local musician*, a fine guitar teacher and player. Now it’s an annual event to provide small scholarships for guitar students. So I don’t have to feel guilty about going to have a couple beers on Sunday, it’s for a good cause!:stuck_out_tongue:

*Dan’s guitar shop was a wall away from the dojo I took karate lessons at. I once heard him playing a fantastic version of the Phantom of the Opera overture on the guitar. It sounded so cool. I wish he’d made a recording of that.:frowning:

I am enjoying having three days off in a row.

FCM, I haven’t the slightest idea what your dreams mean, the few that I have that I remember are peculiar enough that I don’t try really hard to figure them out.

Happy Sunday!

It is bright and N.O.S. outside. It’s a not too chilly 40 degrees out, all in all not a bad day weather wise.

I fell back to sleep this morning and had an irritating dream about have 12 things to do and I was behind and needed to get up and do them.
Also, and this is too weird FCM, I also dreamed about poppies last night. I saw the flowers but I knew it was about somebody named Poppy.

Sunny and Nettie, I am going to try hissing.
Adam really is a sweet, loving cat, but he is also incredibly stubborn and persistent.
I’m getting too soft in my old age, the dog walks all over me, and now the cat is too.

Today he came over to me and sat up with both paws on my knees for me to pick him up. He loves for me to flip him over to hold him like a baby and rub his belly.

My brain feels ready to explode today, I have too much on my mind and I need to get shit done around here. I also need to keep up, I only found out today that tomorrow is a holiday.

Aaawww. Too cute!

Home again! *LaLaLand *is a fun movie! Music, singing, dancing, and a nice wholesome story - what’s not to love! **FCD **was disappointed that there were no explosions… :stuck_out_tongue:

Then we went to Red Robin for lunch and my burger was a freebie, so yay for that! We stopped in Food Lion on the way home for bread. I’ve emptied the dishwasher. It’s about time for Netflix and crocheting. Blissful, restful Sunday.

Evenin’ blurf.

Today at irk was silly. On Sundays, a kid (he’s just turned 16) who lives a few doors away has been coming to wash dishes and run out food. Aside from him, it’s just me and the -very easygoing- chef, it’s the boss’s normal day off. Except this week, the boss and chef swapped days. The boss hasn’t really worked with the kid before, and I was wondering how it was going to go, as kiddo’s pretty lazy, and won’t do anything without prompting, and the boss is, well, a little erratic under pressure, shall we say. I didn’t expect what happened though…

Kid comes in, looking like he’s just woken up, which he probably had. He completely blanked the boss, mumbled something about ‘Am I working today?’ at me, then avoided eye contact with everyone. The boss (who’s politely greeted him to no response) asks him if he brought his apron, which is what passes for a uniform there. He mumbles ‘No, f’got it’, looks into the kitchen, sees the pile of washing up, then says 'I’ll go home ‘n get it’, and without another word, walks out, leaving the boss looking both confused and pretty annoyed.

Kid lives three doors away.

20 minutes goes by.

No sign.

Eventually, the kid’s Dad shows up, looking a little awkward. Kiddo’s not coming back.

Luckily, it was also the busiest Sunday since I started working there, which at least cheered the boss up a bit, and he did manage to find an emergency alternate teenager before we ran out of absolutely everything.

Kids nowadays, eh?

big kitty and baker, the recipe is one that I adapted from another, but I’ll give you what I have.

Carrot Ginger Soup

4# carrots, washed, peeled and chunked
1 onion chopped
5-6 cloves of garlic
1 Tbsp olive oil
2 qts vegetable broth
1 1/2 Tbsp ground ginger or 3 Tbsp grated fresh
1 Tbsp turmeric
1/8 tsp cayenne
salt and black pepper to taste

Sautee the onion and garlic until soft. Add the carrots and vegetable broth and cook until the carrots are soft. Puree everything and return to the pot. Add the spices and finish on low.

It is quite tasty with a hunk of crusty bread (right up your alley baker  ) and a swirl of sour cream in the bowl.

Speaking of which, time to put the bread in the oven.

Happy Sunday!

I dream regularly, but seldom remember my dreams, which usually aren’t coherent anyway.
I do remember something from last night however. I was on a construction crew building a small house, and I was annoyed at some of the crew for some reason, when somehow we transitioned into being participants in a golf tournament, but still inside the house, although one, or possibly two, of the walls were gone.
Then I woke up.

We had breakfast for dinner last night. Blueberry pancakes and scrambled eggs with chopped ham and green onions. Num!

Tonight will be jambalaya, with chicken and shrimps, and possibly smoked sausage, if Wifey approves.

All the Things are clean. Including the end of the driveway and Polly Subaru who was covered in a thick layer of post-snow road grime.

All this talk of food reminds me that I haven’t eaten since breakfast. I should probably do that soon.

I worked, I came home. Watching the Packers game.

FCM, your dreams suggest a subconscious need to host more Mumpfests. :stuck_out_tongue:

Nut, I’ve had adults pull that kind of stunt.

I believe that Socrates made that comment.

Howdy Y’all! Today we deheathenized, had a <snerk> Quickie! <snerk> N.O.L., napped, and I’ve done two loads of laundry. So, sloth and productivity have ensued.

Nuts what doggio said. I’ve dealt with plenty of adults who were worse than that kid. He’ll get better, hopefully.

red the soup sounds nummy. Then anything that includes a big glop of sour cream is usually nummy.

I still need to haul the biiiiiiiiiiiiiiiig trash can down to the road for pickup tomorrow. However, gelato shall be consumed before that happens. Dark chawklit gelato even. YUM!

Trash is picked up in Georgia on MLK?
Of course, if you don’t put it out, they will pick up trash.

Ha! A name has been chosen! Huzzah!

Welcome to cat!

Lessee. Last night we played Cards against Humanity with the kiddos. We’ve been pulling out a few cards from the deck that are just not either age appropriate or are racist. We explain why, or we ask the kids what they think. Generally, we’ve been having fun.

Today, I cleaned the garage. Yay? Suburban now in the garage. Full recycling bin. Full trash bin. I’m this close to getting both cars in, but I’ve got a load of give aways to take to Goodwill, and another week or two of recycling to get through. I cleaned out a couple of mouse traps and it looks like I need a few more. shudders Mouse canninbalism is a thing. I’ll leave it at that. Blech.

I think I’m going to try medicinal Marijuana (did I already mention this?) for the pain. I’m at the point where it’s either that or trying to find painkillers from a drug dealer, which I’m sure I’d be bad at and end up in jail. Or dead. So, I’ve talked to a few people about which strains of MJ are better for pain and I think I’m going to try it. I just can’t do this anymore. Oregon is a MJ legal state, so at least I have the option of trying it, which is a blessing. I know that MJ won’t stop the migraines, but if it helps with the pain it would be a miracle. I searched for another word that better fit, and that’s the best one for me right now. Anyway, I’ll take any good thoughts and prayers while I keep thinking about this. My rope is a little short right now. I went to the ER for help and they gave me Benadryl and some anti-nausea meds. I just want to stop hurting for a while. Sorry to be a downer.

Hugs and good wishes to all of you. Happy Sunday.
