A Monday without an MMP is like . . . (a substitute MMP)

Who WAS that “bear” person???

:stuck_out_tongue:

Welcome back, now get to work in the yard!

Is it really him? I think we need fingerprints! Or perhaps TMI. :stuck_out_tongue:

I think you need to make arrangements for internet access at work, swampy. Then you could check in during breaks and such. On second thought, don’t worry about it; we’ll speak to your employer.

I’m up and semi-awake. Exciting day of laundry and gardening ahead of me too.

Yes, Roo, I’ll be sharing some of my pictures…

Back later.

GT

Oh, good. swampy’s back.

It’s a perfect, beautiful fall day, currently 11C going up to high of 15. Perfect. I didn’t want to get out of bed. I had the window open just above my head, and the breeze coming in, and the blankets were warm… Mr. Lissar is still there. I should put tea on to entice him out.

This is my very favourite kind of day. I wonder what I should do to celebrate? Bake a cake? Laze around reading trashy novels?

We have a Bear sighting! Is it our Bear or is it a different Bear? And how can we be sure?

It’s a gorgeous day here, too – 66°F (18°C), only supposed to warm up a few degrees. The sun is shining, the birds are singing, and the breeze is blowing. The humidity from yesterday is all gone, and it’s supposed to get actually windy this afternoon. Sounds perfect! Definitely a good day to wash my hair and then go sit out in the fresh breeze to dry it; air-dried hair is so much nicer than using a hair dryer.

I agree with Dotty’s advice, LiLi, to use your own common sense and base what you’re doing on your own child. Every child is different, and what works perfectly on one may not do a blessed thing on another. My kids were always incredibly strong-willed from a very early age, so I found that I really had to wing it and figure things out for myself.

One thing I did do, though – I refused to “dumb down” my vocabulary or sentence structure with them, and used big words with them from the time they were very little, and they both developed huge vocabularies as a result. I highly recommend it.

I am fairly sure neither set of our parents ever dumbed down their vocabularies for us. It made me obnoxious and precocious. We have it recorded in my baby book that at age 2 years, eleven months, I said, “Let’s go outside now and see what the situation is with the car”.

I think it was cute.

I’m not worried about the parenting thing. And I don’t intend to pay a lot of attention to anything that disagrees with my instincts about our kids.

Now I’m really going to have a bath and then make tea.

Well done, Lisslar–stick with that. It held me in good stead. I used some time outs, but consequences were my main thing. (of course, the consequence has to be directly related to the “crime”). Now with tees, consequences have to do with trust-you do X with the car, you lose driving privileges-that sort of thing.
I say bake the cake and read the trash while the cake is baking. I LOVE this weather.

Off to watch daughter play field hockey. (then school work, finish the curtains, and spray weedkiller…)

Have a great Saturday, everyone!

I have been to Target to get color catcher because, mysteriously, I was out (odd, since my laundry supplies tend to follow the TP rule: always have lots of backups on hand).

Entrance fee was, somehow, $58.70 (color catcher is $3.29 apiece; I bought 2). OK, so I also checked to see if they had any more of the lightweight sweatpants that I bought before I left for Chicago - they’re super super comfy. I bought two more. Also, there was a cute shirt on clearance. And a hoodie with a zipper that was cute enough to buy merely on sale. Oh, and a pair of shorts - also on clearance.

Off to do laundry.

GT

I’m up and about to put some coffee on.

I have an appointment later today to get my hair cut (FINALLY) and colored. I haven’t cut my hair since February. Well, I’ve hacked at my bangs a couple of times, but that doesn’t count. When I last had my hair cut, I whacked four inches off. I think this time, I’ll cut off about three inches. I dunno. I may surprise myself and do something completely different with my hair.

After the hair cut, I need to come back home so my husband can take the rig. He and my MIL are going to pick up some hall tree somewhere and bring it to my MIL’s. They [I]better* be bring it to my MIL’s. I don’t need it or want it.

After that, we’re going to dinner with friends.

I’m glad Swampy’s absence just had to do with work and nothing BAD.

gt, considering what you bought, you came out with a relatively cheap entrance fee from Target.

I should make some coffee now.

What’s a color catcher?

Have I ever mentioned that I hate sewing cylinders? ick. I need to incorporate 2 winch covers into the sail cover, which means I need to make 2 cylinders 5.25" in diameter and 5" tall. Which requires a gazillion pins to affix the round part to the cylindrical part. I’m only halfway thru pinning the first one. I suppose I really shouldn’t put this off…

Back to pinning. <sigh>

Yay! DaBear returneth - or rather work lets up on him for the weekend. I literally hollared out loud when I saw his post too; good thing it’s just my daughter and I here today.

I went outside to read the paper around 7 AM and it was still a bit dark as well as quite cool and windy! I stayed out there for a bit, watching the birds (they’re quite enboldened when looking for food early in the morning - I had one land about 2 feet away from me!!) then did eventually read the paper once it was light enough. It’s supposed to be even cooler tomorrow. Just finished watching one of the “Boston Blackie” movies on TCM - I remember my Mom telling me how much she enjoyed watching them when they originally came out.

It’s time for me to find some “new” books to read.

Welcome back, Swampy.

I, for one, was really worried (and I know I’m a fine one to say that after pulling a 4-day AWOL myself… :D)

Li-li, I like your approach to child-raising. It’s what we do as well. “Average” solutions will work for the “average” kid… and we know there’s no such thing as a kid who’s “average” in every aspect of their personality.

GT – re: walking into a store for $5-worth of stuff and coming out with $50… are you absolutely certain you’re not me?

I’ve been reading the various local news sites. An article from our local paper caught my attention.

The article covered a day in court for those people wanting to contest their toll bridge citations. Our new Narrows Bridge opened in July. There’ve been hiccups with people’s transponders not working, or people paying their toll, but getting citations in the mail anyway.

So, the article detailed some folks’ woes, and their citations got dismissed in court. However, one lady admitted she didn’t “pay the toll bridge thingy”, because she “didn’t think the bridge was open yet”.

This elicited chuckles from the gallery in court, and no, her citation did not get dismissed.

Um, lady, you’re ON the bridge, with thousands of other cars. Trust me, it’s open.

People like that make me shake my head.

I guess I should start getting myself cleaned up for the day.

Back from Bert’s. That’s a local diner where the food is so-so and the service erratic, but we were hungry and it’s close. Plus I got a chocolate shake, which is one thing they do well - gooooooood ice cream-related products.

**FCD ** is going to tidy his shop. I’m about to install the cylinders into the cover assembly. Then I have to re-do the collar (no biggie) and put in the 7 straps (more a pain than a big deal. It should be done eventually…

Back to work.

Yeah, Taters, I got away really cheaply, considering. The only item over $10 was the hoodie. One of the things I particularly liked about the sweats - in addition to the comfort factor - was the price: $8.48, down from $16.99. Shirt was the same deal. The hoodie was $16.99, down from $21.99. Shorts were $5.48. So it was really the land of very nice deals.

SO, I just looked out the window and saw the greater Columbus, Ohio area and not Tel Aviv, so I’m pretty sure I’m not you. So, is SpecialTeen home during the holidays? How’s school treating her?

FCM, Color Catcher is a Shout product. They’re like dryer sheets, but go in the wash and absorb any dye that comes out of what you’re washing. I have several red and blue items that lose dye every time I wash them. I still sort my reds out, but don’t have to worry about things with light-colored stripes suddenly turning up light pink and red instead of white and red, for instance.

Hmmm…interesting lame excuse, Taters. You have to hope the lady just hoped they’d buy it and didn’t actually believe what she was saying.

I love your sentence, LiLi. Hope tinyninjachef comes up with something equally eloquent. Given your bookwormishness and general verbal abilities, I’d say the chances are good.

Laundry is done, now I need to put stuff away.

Back eventually…

GT

I was right. This was the perfect day to go dry my hair outside; 15 minutes of brush my hair, throw the Kong, brush my hair, throw the Kong, etc., and not only is my hair now dry but Isaac is happy as well. Nothing like killing two birds with one stone.

But seriously, the breeze outside today is heavenly. Could it be a more perfect day? I honestly don’t see how. Gorgeous, gorgeous, gorgeous!

Swampy, we are all sooooo relieved that you are okay!

Sigh, I am a little tired of reading about everyone else’s heavenly weather. It’s still obscenely hot here. Nothing new - it will probably be late October before the temperature drops below 30C in the evening, although that’s generally accompanied by a comparable increase in humidity. Roll on winter!!!

Iftar is done and dusted for another day, Noor is fast asleep and I am cactus again, despite the fact that today was my sleep-in day (yep, I got to stay in bed until 9:30am - woohoo!). Time to snuggle on the sofa with hubby and a nice cup of tea before bedtime!

A little bit of advice? Mr. Lissar has heard that one of the students at the dojo may be doing hard drugs and mugging people. The little punk is 13, and has occasionally come to class stoned. Sensei doesn’t know, and he hasn’t been caught and arrested yet. We don’t know whether Mr. Lissar should report the hearsay to the police or Sensei.

Kid’s very much a minor, and if he is committing acts of violence in my neighbourhood I’d like him stopped, but all we have is weird behaviour in July (coming to class stoned), gossip, and Mr. Lissar watching his class behaviour get a lot worse. I know if you suspect abuse it’s necessary to report it, but I’m not sure about violent theft.

If it’s not true, we don’t want to accuse him, but if it is I would very much like him stopped.
Sigh.

We’re off to Mr. Lissar’s godparents’ for dinner, and then maybe Lazy Husband’s place after. The lazing and cake-baking were a success. Zuchinni honey spice cake, anyone?

Ok, here goes…

Special1 and Taters your mom and MIL respectively are in my thoughts and prayers. I don’t think I missed any other sicknesses/illnesses when I read through the MMP just now, if I did, I’m sorry.

scout 'grats on the marriage thing! A nice Spring wedding is the thing. I suggest a nice hotel on a Saturday, just cause weddings in nice hotels on Saturday are usually fun.

DDG of course choir members can miss rehearsals and show up on Sundays. At least according to the choir directors hymn.

The yards are done, the laundry is done and da cave is, well, somewhat sanitary… let’s just say y’all wouldn’t catch anything a nice antibiotic wouldn’t cure.

Work this week… well… see this is a biiiiiiiig time of year for folks to take vacations apparently cause I got drafted (it’s called forced OT) to provide second half of shift relief for third shift which meant I had to be at work at threefreekin’ A.M. every day! 3 A.M. - 3 P.M. shifts are not fun let me tell ya. Gettin’ up at 1:30 A.M. even less fun. Still, they paid me well for it so I ain’t complainin’ much. Next week I’ll have to do a couple 7 A.M. - 7 P.M. shifts which I don’t mind so much. It’s just that 3 A.M. is waaaaaaaaaaaaaay to early to go to work even for mornin’ like persons such as myself.

Oh, and I promise, from here on out, that when sump’n like this happens to me I will report in just to say what’s goin’ on. Ok, my little heart <snerk> cockles <snerk> are touched by all the concern y’all had for me. Youse all’s the greatest!

doggio Nurse ACBG is allowed to do all the pokin’ and proddin’ he wants.

Ok, time to figure out what to feed ol’ y’all know who and me for supper.

Later Y’all!

ETA: LiLi even if the kid is not doin’ all that, I say Mr. Lissar should mention it
based on his observations and suspicions. If sump’n is goin’ on, it would be good if it could be stopped before the kid does get into some way serious legal trouble. Mr. Lissar would be doin’ him the best favor he could to at least mention it. That’s my .02.

HOLEEEEE CRAP!! I just finally finished the sail cover. I thought for sure I’d have it done around noon or shortly thereafter. It’s 5-freekin’-30!!! I’m exhausted. No clay play today… :frowning:

I have returned from my hair appointment. It took three hours! However, my hair is nicely colored, and I have some lovely layers in my hair now. It’s a bit shorter, so it’ll shock some people when I return to work, but my hair grows quickly.

I like the hair color, I think, but I want a little more reddish gold in there.

At any rate, I got a good deal today. Hair color, wash, cut, style and it cost me $53.00. That was WITH the ten dollar tip. Hmmm, was that enough of a tip? I think so.

I’ll be back to see the gal. She does good work, takes her time, and is conscientious about it.

I should do some tidying up before our friends get here. I’ve got my son out there doing dishes. I just need to run the vaccuum cleaner.

I’ve got a couple of hours before they get here, so I have a little time.
