Home from Tennessee - went to the Aquarium in Chattanooga. It was awesome. Wanted to bring the otters home but they wouldn’t let me for some reason. Spoilsports.
A/c in the cat/room office died just before I left and Mr. SCL waited until I got back to replace it. Miserably hot here - and was over 90 every day I was in Tenn. I no longer enjoy summer as much as I used to. I simply cannot tolerate the heat.
The team that won the championship in my hockey league last season fired their coach yesterday. WTF? My bet is that he asked for a raise… The good news is that there is a home game on my birthday this season.
Read that singer Amy Winehouse was found dead in her apartment today - how could they tell? She’s looked like a zombie for years!!
Rescued kitten (Leroy Jethro Buzz) has made himself at home in Tenn. The ear damaged when he was (we guessed) thrown out of the car fell off, so he has a bit of fluff there now. He’s a real cutie. Some day I’ll learn how to send pics from my phone to the computer. Then I’ll have to learn how to post pictures here again…
I have decreed my bday dindin shall be poke tenderloin, company smashed N.O.T., spinach sallit, rolls and a chawklit sheet cake with chawklit pee-can icin’ plus ice cream. Plus I desire chicken wings for snackin’ around the pool and of course beer. It is an acceptable decree. Now all I have to do is not freak out that people beside me will be doin’ stuff in my kitchen and on my grill.
Today, I have to haul half a metric buttload of electronic devices to the city’s electronic device disposal unit. Thankfully, they don’t charge for CRTs. Most places do.
I had to hide the TV remote control from my dad, because he kept mashing buttons on it until he changed the input setting and then complained that the tv was broken when it wouldn’t show cable channels. The day I had to come downstairs four times in an afternoon to fix it (and show him how several times for each visit, which never works), I finally hid the TV remote and left him with the cable remote. Voila. Problem solved.
My half-sister’s daughter (that is, my niece, and I give up on halves at this point) is four years younger than me. She has a wonderful husband, a lovely home, a great career, and has just given birth to her third child, a beautiful daughter. I am permanently single, live with my parents, have been under- or unemployed for the last three years, and for health and financial reasons, will never have children of my own. I am doing my very, very best to be happy for her, because that whole side of the family are wonderful people. Inside, little bits of my heart are dying.
My younger brother just got home from his second European trip. No, I’m not eating my heart out at all.
I am taking college courses so I can get a better IT job. At this point, anything $15/hr with benefits would be like winning the lottery. sigh
I have been MIA because of a combination of standing in field full of cows for work and not having internet access outside of work for a couple of weeks.
I got back from OKC last night and it was refreshing to get off the plane in CA at 95 deg as it was a welcome break from the 111 plus heat I have been in.
Vacay started yesterday - yay! My sister gets here from the UK on Monday - yay! Then the fun really start - yay!
I have some work I need to quickly get done this afternoon that I didn’t get the chance to finishe yesterday - just meeting notes from this week for my boss. Then I am gonna dust and vacuum and clean the bathrooms and strip the beds and wash sheets. At that point supper will be pizza. I think I will deserve it.
LibbyCat missed me. She has been catsitted for a couple of weeks while we have been gone so I guess she got lonely. She kept waking me up for ear skritches during the night.
In other news. The house in on the market so we have started the short sale.
fcm - yay for almost retirement! LiLi - hope the morning yucks leave soon!
I kinda scanned the rest so rosie’s sig to all! Mwah!
phouka it shall indeed pass. Welcome to or welcome back to the mmp. I don’t remember these things too well. Nicknamage shall be worked upon.
Taters if I couldn’t be placed upon a pedestal and showered with jewels I couldn’t very well settle for second best now could I?
Dindin is et, company gone and dishwasher is washin’ away. Ima go lie upon the bed with OYKW and watch some teevee. I has a feelin’ sleep may soon overtake.
i made an executive decision, and left 30min early, and am taking tomorrow off. I’m drinking Yuengling, and watching Serenity on Netflix.
phouka, 7 years ago I was a social awkward misfit with few friends, no girl, and no real like outside of work. Now I have a life , a girl I’m “just friends” with and dozens of meatspace and Internet friends. It will get better.
Hey Snakes, welcome back! I saw that about the Surge. Weird. Some us might go see a FireAntz game this season.
Swampy, other people…in your kitchen…what if they unalphabetize the spice rack.:eek::eek:
phouka - first {{{{{hugs}}}}}
Now - things will change. It takes time - you’re on the right path taking classes. It may take a while, but as the economy turns around, your life will, too. (I may be overly optimistic about the economy, but not about your life)
Todays list of accomplishments in no particular order:

I feel better now. Tomorrow involves grocery shopping, Tar-jay and a pedicure. All things I like to do
woke up
got an oil change for the car
finished building a hanger plaque for a dagger
filled in a stupid hole over the fireplace with an oak panel with a hand-rubbed finish
hung a picture on the new panel and mounted a picture light above it
drove to another state to pick up pizzas for dinner
washed dishes
got some info on that x-ray of my neck
For those following along, the image of my neck that’s linked somewhere on page 3 shows a stage 2 fusion starting to take place at my C6-C7 joint as well as a significant loss of disc height at the same location. The good news is the bones are not actually fused yet - it’s more like two adjacent bone spurs. It is all but guaranteed that there will be an MRI of the same spot in the near future to see how badly the nerves are being squished and then to see what can be done about it.
Of all the rotten things I could have inherited from my father. When he was about my current age, his back went out. I just hope that I can avail myself of the current state of the treatment art.
Up, again thanks to the critterage in the household. I just can’t seem to get a break.
We’re meeting daughter and nephew at the boat at 8 - we’re going to attempt some time out on the water. I’m hoping it’s a short time - I just don’t feel like it today, altho the heat is supposed to stay in the low 90s rather than near 100, so there’s that.
And tomorrow is the first day in the last week of my career. It sure snuck up on me fast. Tuesday is the going-away for the man who hired me 7 years ago. Weds is my going-away, plus dinner with a FL friend. Weds is also the day they take away my computers, which means I have no idea what Thursday will be. And Friday is just a half day - my final appointment is at 1030.
Wow.
And I sit here looking at the mess on my desk knowing one of my first post-retirement chores will be to sort these papers and get our files in order. I also need to make up a list or spreadsheet for **FCD **with all of our account numbers/names/passwords in case something happens to me. He’ll never figure it out otherwise.
But first, I’ve got to get thru a sailboat ride. Which means I need to get dressed and pack a lot of ice and water. And clean the cat box before we go. And possibly other stuff…
Good Mornin’ Y’all! Up and caffienatin’ YAWN 'Tis 74 Amurrkin out with a predicted high of 95. Amazingly enough, yet again, according to The Weather Channel website, we have had no snow in the past 24 hours. Wonder why…
donkeybear a date with an ex’s roomie? I think I saw that on a soap opera once…
gotti may the wonders of modern medical advancement work in your favor. I just have to ask though, why was there a hole over the fireplace? This just sounds like a good story.
doggio the worse that could happen spicewise is somebody might alphabetize my spices. I’m all footloose and devil may care with the arrangement of spices. They’re just up there all willy-nilly in a cabinet. I’m a spice rebel! I can, however, open said cabinet, reach in and pull out any spice I desire. As long as they adhere to the rule of not puttin’ any pots, pans, utensils and dishes away, I’ll be fine. I think.
Ok, I need more caffiene and rumbly tummy is demandin’ brekkie. Then purtification for deheathenization must commence. I’m a Layreader today. Rah.
Today is a day of deheathanization, laundry, and pool based sloth, if the weather holds out.
swampy, the spices have to be alphabetized, or at least grouped by bottle style. Don’t make me come to Georgia, and go all “Extreme Makeover-OCD Edition on you”
FCM, I guess Thursday you get paid to stare at the wall for 8 hours. Or that’s when they Shop Vac the classified stuff out of your head.
Y’all know I grouse about my lack of ability fishing in salt water? That I go out and feed squid to the crabs? Today, I actually reeled something in: a blue crab, about 4 inches across.
No, I don’t have a picture. S/he let go from about 6 feet in the air as I was reeling it in on the fishing pier, whilst I was reaching for my cell phone.
We had Dad’s friend over for dinner last night. It was a lot of fun! I made some good old Southern style home-cookin’. Chicken Fried steak, squash, mashed NOT, cream gravy, and peas. Dessert was brownie sundaes. We looked at old pictures and talked and laughed a bunch.
We busted our butts getting the house “company clean” yesterday . Yay! I need to invite people over more often! Today will entail more laundry, grocery acquisition, and some stuff I need to do for AST (my charity.)
I’ve been up for a while, but - other than having breakfast - haven’t really done a whole lot. Really need to get as inspired as FCM.
Now it’s time to purtify and go out to deheathenate. Am debating what else to do afterward. I’m thinking I’ll stop by a thrift store to look for some items for garden art.
Talked to my son via phone and then we texted each other a couple of times. I’m very interested to hear what he learns at the orientation today and tomorrow.
I had a good time with my friends last night and the band we listened to was very good.
I want to work in my yard today and I’m hoping I can do that without having to run around and do a bunch of errands too. I just want to enjoy the sun and the day.
