This is a first for me… I have brought a new member into our little Bay Area Dopers flock! Quake in fear… the BAD’s are growing!
His name is virtee, and (get this!) he is from San Jose. Have you ever met anyone that’s actually from the Bay Area? I haven’t. To make him even cooler, he lives like 2 streets from the effrevescent Sue Duhnym.
Since he’s very well-spoken, and hella cute to boot, I’ll let him do his own introductions and all that. I trust you’ll all be gentle…

After reading the Straight Dope in the Metro (San Jose’s local alternative newspaper) for many years, imagine my delight at discovering a community of warm, intelligent individuals who share a common hunger for knowledge and comraderie. Rasa was responsible for pointing out the existence of the SDMBs to me. Again, thanks, Rasa!
Yes, it’s true, I am a San Jose native. However, I haven’t lived here continuously all my life. I’ve been all over the U.S. and visited several countries in the Far East. I have settled in my native city mostly as a result of my interest in all things technical. I get all jittery around cool gadgets!
How cute am I, Simetra? I once had someone tell me that my dimples were “…so deep you could stir pudding in them!”

Dancing on the Avenue* is this Saturday, maybe we should have an impromptu BAD drink-a-thon?
Dancing on the Ave is Willow Glen’s annual festival. They shut down Lincoln between Minnesota and Willow and have beer, wine, food and music. Fun time.
Saturday… I don’t think I have any plans for Saturday. Anyone up? Come on, Willow Glen is a happenin’ place. Maybe we can even drag virtee’s roommate–he’d love to show off his new motorcycle…

I doubt you’re an “average joe”…but I’m afraid my opinion on that is suspect since appearances are such subjective things. For what it’s worth, you sound “hella cute”!
Yeah, condolences are accepted. San Jose is pretty vanilla or, at worst, a spoiled cup of vanilla Snack Pack™ pudding cup.
I would like to meet you and the other BADs sometime…wanna see if my mental image matches the personalties.
The sports teams used to have names like “The Prune Pickers” (aka The P.P.s) so just having one called the “Sharks” is a huge step up in credibility.
