A Perfect Sunday - An Early MMP

VWife told the doctor she doesn’t mind if the SN works on her later this week, just not today. The sawbones actually told her that if he was thinking right, he would have ordered the SN not do her thing with VWife. She also got brekkie, but late.

I understand and sympathize with the SN, because I got my butt chewed Saturday night for a no harm-no foul screwup on the ambulance that I ain’t gonna tell y’all about when I write that story. I’m still learning the job, but the other guy involved is an experienced EMT-I who should have known better.

Hah!

rigs, you wanna come over and scare the beejesus out of my students? Please? :: angel face ::

I’m think of waiting until after midterms before giving them a Talking-To, so I can brandish grades in front of their faces.

Heh. That’s so funny you say that - she goes beserk every time she sees anything flying around the room. The other day she slaughtered a moth.

There’s a gas leak in our building but we’re still having classes.

I just got caught up and read what everyone wrote, but I have no idea now who I wanted to respond to or what I wanted to say.

Except ooooooooooh, cute kitties! The big eyes are adorable.

Sleepy this morning despite adequate sleep last night. Need caffeine but don’t want the coffee at work. Really want to run to Starbuck’s, but feel weird leaving work when it’s not lunch time or the end of the day. So if I fall asleep and start drooling on my keyboard, that’s why.

For the sake of all that’s holy, do NOT light up, you smoking instructor, you!
I have a funny story about a pt and gas leak, but my arm hurts too much to type that much today.
VBob–I hate that. If there is one thing I could change–I’d lose 10 pounds. Oh, wait. If there is one thing I could change–I’d make all instructors/preceptors go back to remember what it was like to fumble around and not be sure, but be so afraid that you’ll mess up and do harm. I hate, hate, hate the abuse in the system. I much prefer learning. I’m glad VWife will let the SN back in–her whole cliinical grade may well rest upon VWife’s “case”. (we used to have write up incredibly long care plans, pt interactions, med lists, disease processes, equipment lists etc for each pt we were involved with. It did one thing–it made real life nursing seem a breeze).

Then again, SN should not be hurting anyone, and she should have checked with the floor nurse or her instructor first. Glad VW got brekkies. Has she gotten up yet? Time to move, woman! <heheheheh evil laugh>
I am back (obviously) from my bike ride from the car place. One of my front calipers is rubbing on my bike. Uh oh.

It is going to cost some major money to get #1 son BTW*. For 15 hours of “instruction” it costs $250. I think it’s alot. Plus, they have no openings until mid-November. But, they are right down the street and are recommended by the high school (for all I know, the DS instructor could be the driver’s ed teachers’ spouse). It’s only money. And then of course, comes the Real Money–car insurance for a 16 year old boy. <keels over>
*in this isolated case, BTW=behind the wheel, btw (by the way).

I’m caught up with the posts, but like Taxi, can’t remember what I want to say.

'Cept it’s cold here! It was like 48° this morning! What happened to fall? It’s supposed to warm up a little later this week, though.

I rode my bike this morning! Yay me!

Gotta run, have I mentioned I hate this project? LOL

Morning, all. I’ve been up for hours, but am having trouble getting moving. Although not as much trouble as yesterday – I got so sleepy after lunchtime I literally could hardly hold my eyes open the entire afternoon. After drinking a Diet Coke and two cups of coffee and still barely being able to stay awake, I gave up and crawled in bed right after dinner and watched TV in bed the rest of the evening. I’m still not up to par today; I don’t know why, I’m not sick, just dragging my behind.

Yay for VWife being up for raising some hell! I hope the remainder of her bionicization proceeds as well.

Cute kitty, Haze! And I agree, you shouldn’t coddle them any more. If they don’t have their homework assignments, oh well. They should know everything they’re supposed to do without you having to tell them anything. If there’s not a printed syllabus, just write it on the board each class and then let it be on their heads if they don’t copy it down. Be tough and mean! You can do it!

I guess I should go try to do something constructive. I’ve been trying, but every time I get going working Papa Tigs calls. He went to work for a while this morning and then headed back up to the Baltimore VA hospital for another appointment – why they scheduled two 15-minute appointments on two separate days is beyond me – and first called me in the car 'cause he was bored driving, and then called me from the hospital 'cause he’s bored sitting around. :dubious: I don’t call him when I’m bored, I inflict that on you lucky people! He should learn to do the same kind of thing!

VWife has been out of bed today. I asked her how it went…

“Horrible.”

I told her it’s only going to get better, but not very fast.

Don’t forget to insist that VWife do her exercises, Bobbio. One of the folks I visited this weekend reported that her sister is unhappy with her knee replacement. The reason? She only exercised the three times per week the therapist came by! The surgeon does the first 25% of the job; it’s up to the patient to do the remaining 75%. And that means exercise, no matter how horrible it is.

The pain goes away in just a few short weeks. The good (or bad) result is with you for many years to come. It’s only pain, and that’s what drugs are for! So she’s really got to be devoted to doing her exercises, no matter how hard it is at first. And yes, those first couple days in the hospital? Are pure misery. But we all have to go through it to be able to dance a few months down the road!

Best wishes to VWife!

I’ve been busy making boneheaded mistakes yesterday and today. It’s been fun. It will get better, just new job growing pains.

Morning all! I’m feeling a lot better from yesterday. Looks like the PMS cyclone has gone to plow some greener pastures. Ah, the joys of hormonal birth control and being nulliparous.

Haze, I think you need to perfect your Scary Teacher Voice[sup]TM[/sup] to get your students to listen a bit better. I’m not a teacher, but I learned it from a friend while we were docents. The Scary Teacher Voice[sup]TM[/sup] is very useful to keep children and adults under control in a “boring situation.”

VBob, glad to hear your wife is doing better and that the surgery went well, despite mishaps with the nurses.

I’ve got the day off and should be studying. What am I doing instead? Dyeing bits of my hair with leftover henna and posting on the 'Dope. Nice.

Drive-by post.

Parents arrived safe and are enamoured of their granddaughter, who is significantly larger than the last time they saw her. Will try to post more tomorrow! Hugs, etc …

Any relation to the PG&E crew that was working on hooking up a high-pressure gas line for the new hotel that’s been built next to my office?

How do I know it’s high pressure? They were whacking away on something in the hole in the road yesterday, when there was a short, but shatteringly loud noise. I’ve heard the hiss of gas leaks, but this was like a one-second blast of noise from a jet engine at full power, even though I was 75 yards and a set of double-pane windows away. I look out the window to see the guys dizzily scrambling out of the hole, evidently on a quest for breathable air. They go back into the hole, whack again, and another blast of noise and another personnel ejection. Ths time, I saw debris on the road surface get scattered about. Good thing nobody in the area was smoking! They go back to their truck and get a different whatzis and this time, it seemed to work.

I managed to make it home without singeing my eyebrows.

This made me giggle like mad. Haven’t these students ever heard of the concept of proofreading?

This the result of kids growing up on Little Tommy Tucker
Sings for his supper
?

… or maybe he had a credit card and he signed for his food?

Perhaps the student only wants to point out that one should be conversant in the lyrics prior to singing. Really,** Haze**–it seems quite obvious to* moi*.
I am home from the car place and I have good news and I have bad news.

First, the good news. They did not charge me at all for the new pads etc. Yay!

Now, the bad news: I was cancelled for tomorrow for work. There goes a huge chunk of change. I had forgotten this bit of being per diem—the risk of cancellation is higher. I am not eligible for vaca or PTO, so if there is no work, there is no money.
Ugh. But at least I don’t have the car expense on top of the no work. Must look at bright side. Take that, Daphnee! (never mind, personal thought spelled out).

I’m glad you’re all supportive and stuff, Bob. Keep after her to do her exercises. She’ll feel a lot better. Eventually.
Jah, the first-day feeling clueless is annoying, isn’t it? It’s good you can only ever have one first day at any job.

At Costco, I broke down, and bought a box of petit fours.

Actually, my Mom bought them for me.

This is the first time I’ve ever done it! In three years of Costcoing! I think that counts for something! Anyway, I’m going to thaw some of 'em and snack. They’re healthy, and full of… butter. And cream and sugar. Nutrition.

That reminds me- Mr. Lissar is having an ongoing argument with some of the people at the dojo about the nutritional value of some raw food. I believe firmly, as per Jeffrey Steingarten’s essay in The Man Who Ate Everything, that there are a lot of foods that are not as nutritionally valuable until they’re cooked. Spinach, for exaple. The oxalic acid in it keeps the iron bound up, and it isn’t digested. Unless it’s cooked. Raw or undercooked chickpeas are deadly in large enough quantites. Actually, a bunch of beans are toxic if they’re not cooked enough.

There are a bunch of others that aren’t good for you in large quantities.

Mr. Lissar is fighting the Nature-is-a-benevolent-goddess-and-all-raw-food-is-put-here-by-her-to-make-us-all-healthy myth. Plants don’t want you to eat them. They can’t move, so they developed bitter or painful tastes, toxins, and poisons. Or they’re just nutritionally worthless in the absence of cooking.

End of rant.

Testing is over with - one of those weird personality tests. It will probably come back saying I don’t have one and am a mean hateful rotten bitch. Then there was some vocabulary work. Just weird. I think I did all right on that part.

The feed n seed is out of pine pellet stable bedding, which is what I use for cat litter. I had to get clay litter instead. I hate that stuff. The supply truck is supposed to arrive tomorrow or Thursday, so I’ll go get it then.

I’m sleepy.

Nah, these tests never work right… :stuck_out_tongue: (d&r)

**Rigs **-- Yay and Boo, respectively .

I’m home!!!

I’ll keep my appendages cross that the test went fine, SCL. (We can vouch for your personality, if you need us to…)

Yeah, I always wonder about people who forget that poisons occur in nature. “It’s natural!” is nice to a point, but common sense really helps out.

I think singing the rental agreement sounds quite lovely. Does one sing it once a day to keep it in force?

Glad the vitamins appear to be doing something, Mork. Hope it lasts.

So, has anyone told VWife that she needs to do her exercises? I hear it helps.

Too bad snowbunny is so far away. I’m sure she would have loved to stop by and terrorize VWife too.

I’m really glad that I learned to drive in high school, taught by a regular teacher. I took the class one summer. Didn’t have to pay anything at all.

Hope Roo is feeling better and makes it back in here soon.

Dinner tonight was green beans and new potatoes. I’m considering dessert…

My WTF moment for the day:

On our way home from grocery shopping, I was looking out the window and glimpsed an elderly lady in a skimpy black bathing suit perched in a provocative manner on the guard railings beside the road.

Li-Li, we learned that stuff in Home Ec. class in high school. One of the few practical things we learned in that stupid class.
