A Perfect Sunday - An Early MMP

**Rigs **-- it’s Alzheimer’s.
You’re welcome :stuck_out_tongue:

Son learning to drive… daughter turning 18 (and in last year of High School)… oh my, I can see myself there in just a few more years time. How quickly those tiny little babies grow up!
(Dotty and Li-li – take note. Next thing you know, you’ll be there, too)

Yay! for **SCL **and VBob/VWife!!!

Haze, I said already you need to go into class with full regalia – boots, all-leather and a whip. Then they’ll pay attention.

Such a lovely face!
The cat is cute, too.

Aw, c’mon, you can get a little closer than that… I’ve been on antibiotics for 3 days now, I’m not contagious! Closer… just a little closer, now…

Aww, Olive is a cutie, Haze! Have you straightened things out with Cloud Maiden yet, though, about the cat food and litter? If not, you better make sure that you have enough of both for both.

Yay for VonderWife! Heh, if she’s bitching at BBBBobbio, she must be doing okay, right? ducks

Up early, going to try to get to work early (cha, right!) to earn some credit time. Every time I do that, though, I end up gobbling it up in the next week or two, drat! We -might- get some rain today–we desparately need it here, so probably won’t get it. Then tomorrow the temps are supposed to go back down towards normal for late October–it will feel cold, I suspect.

Have a good day, all!

Oh yeah, hope that the parental unit visit is going well, Dotty!

Sounds like VWife is doing fine, especially if she’s feeling up to bitching already!

Haze - that’s such a cute kittie! Did Cloud Maiden remember to buy food and litter and stuff? If not, train the cats to attack on command.

It looks like I have managed to break our student records system. Wasn’t all that difficult either! Yesterday I was trying to register 400 students on our foundation degree in golf. Yes. We do really honestly have degree programmes in golf. Anyway, since there are so many of them, we have an automated data transfer process that should take the information from the spreadsheet and put it directly into the student record system, allowing me to then run a report with the new ID numbers on it (and produce ID cards etc).

So I fiddled around with the spreadsheet because the columns have to be in a particular order, I checked that all the really important boxes were completed as I have to put some different things in so that the system will accept students with overseas addresses. Then I converted it to the right format and uploaded it via the ftp server. Sounds simple enough.

A few minutes later I got an error report, which I was expecting since nothing can ever be expected to go through without a little hitch. There’s nothing wrong with the dozen students who came back with “required field missing”, I just need to tweak their data records. There are two missing dates of birth - no problem, I can manually register those. There’s a student who doesn’t turn 18 until next week - no problem, I can register him after his birthday.

Then there are about 20 students who apparently already have an ID number - no problem, I can check that they’re on the right programmes etc, they probably registered online instead of realising we would do it for them.

That leaves me with 374 students who all have an error message that says their information can’t be entered into a particular form in the record system. It’s not a form I’ve ever used before so I have no idea what it relates to. The guy I spoke to in student records (who manages all of the automated transfer projects) has no access to that screen. His contact in the systems team has no idea what is going on.

So now I’m waiting to find out if all these students have to be manually registered…because we have to produce a HESA return by the end of the month and all our students need to be registered by then. Oh joys.

Time for the official MMP cure.

turns the firehose on her as she sits in the corner

So, to earn some extra money, I may try to get some babysitting jobs. I am extremely desparate for extra money and will accept any job given to me. I haven’t gotten a job yet. Well, that’s not true, I was offered a job, but I was out of town that Saturday. Also, it’s finally getting colder here! Today is the first day where it will get progressively colder over the day, rather than progressively warmer. Yay! It’s supposed to stay like this.

Morning Mumpers! Caffeinated and sooon to be off to work. I’m off tomorrow, I think I’ll take Nelly to the dog park for the first time. We’re in a bit of a drought, the governor wants everybody to cut water use 50%. I guess I’ll start making my coffee with vodka.

LOUNE, I thought the MMP cure involved a squid, a bucket of lard, and a 40 of malt liquor?

I believe the squid is part of stage 2 of the cure, doggio.

Good luck with the babysitting job-hunting, Captain!

That sounds like no fun, BooFae. Hope someone can figure it out so that you don’t have to enter the records manually.

Good luck today, SCL!

Off to work!

[QUOTE=Noone SpecialHaze, I said already you need to go into class with full regalia – boots, all-leather and a whip. Then they’ll pay attention. :D[/QUOTE]
yeah, it worked for my friend
Alternately, Haze, figure out who the “leader” is, and challenge him to a figh. . . . oh, wait, that’s prison. I got nuthin’, but I could ask Cousin - she’s been teaching elementary school for 25 years

Hey hey hey! That’s MY job…

Mornin’, y’all. Brekkie in hand and 2nd dose of caffeine underway.

VWife was looking better this morning, and not hurting too much. Her drugs must be working quite well, because everyone’s reaction on hearing of a double replacement is [sup]2[/sup]. I stopped by on the way to work, and the look on the faces of the night shift girls when I said I was there to see my wife at 0600 was priceless.

Her day shift nurse yesterday was a kid named Rick. A rookie RN, kinda pudgy and ‘flamboyant’. I mention this because my impression of him was Sean’s Roundboy, 'cept he was intelligent, competent and likeable.

Mornin’/Whatever Y’all!

I’m waitin’ on the floor guy to come measure my floors and give me an estimate on redoin’ 'em. Woo and Hoo. I am also TAHRED! He’s supposed to be here at nine o’clock. With any luck I’ll get rid of him in bout half an hour so’s I can go to bed.

BBBobbio yay on VunderWife’s surgery. Continued prayers and good thoughts headed her way.

Feel better Nashii. There will be more excitement as the wedding date gets closer.

All you sickies, feel better! Keep those germs away from me, ok?

I want a beerverage but decided I better not cause I don’t want floor guy to smell beer on my breath at nine a.m. I don’t wanna freak him out cause I’m nice dammit! But it might be funny…

Later Y’all!

Oh, there’s nothing I can really do about students who constantly email me about homework assignments I very clearly outlined to them in class just two days ago. It’s not even asking for clarification, it’s “HI MISS HAZEL DO WE HAVE HOMEWORK FOR TOMORROW???”

Also it’s my philosophy that in college, it’s really up to the students to be responsible for their own crap. It’s not like elementary school, where I was constantly prodding and bribing my students to do their homework or study for their tests. You’re an adult now! I shouldn’t have to threaten to stand you in a corner nor offer you candy for you to do what you are supposed to be doing in the first place.

BooFae, in Korea you can get a degree for oyster fishing. I suppose that’s more practical than golf, though.

Oh, and Cloud Maiden did buy cat stuff the morning after it all ran out. I think next time I’ll just remind her a bit beforehand. She’s good about doing stuff if someone is there to prompt her.

VWife just called to say she dressed down a student nurse who was trying to do stuff for her clinicals that hurt a lot, then had the surgeon put her off-limits to the young PITA. :cringe: Even worse, young PITA’s attempts made ner miss breakfast altogether. No one messes with VWife’s breakfast.

Yup, she’s getting back to normal…

The answer to which is, “Yes”…and then see what they turn up with? Hopefully excuses about the burned-out bakery and their lack of hands etc won’t be acceptable?

“yes, you do.”

ETA: **BooFae **beat me to it. Guess that golfing degree is good for something after all…

Wohoo for VunderWife! I’m glad she’s already got to the bitching stage.
tashii, the weight of everyone’s expectations crashing down on you is one of the unfun parts of a wedding. It’s important to set up a good thick shield of “This is My wedding” and ignore stupid things people say. (“Your cousin Ermingilda had her wedding at the cathedral, and released doves! And had fifteen bridesmaids. You’re going to have at least fifteen bridesmaids, aren’t you, dear?”)
Cats are evil. It’s just that they pretend to be adorablle and cuddly, and we fall for it. Haze, Olive is so cute and fluffy and adorable. I bet she hardly ever plans to murder you in your sleep.

Sigh. The puking is just me winning the Genetic Lottery for Morning Sickness. At least it’s only occasional now. The first trimester and half the second were brutal.
When I got to work yesterday and said that I’d just thrown up and didn’t feel so hot, Neurotic Cat-Lady Co-Worker (remember her?) raised her eyebrows at me, said, “Well, you chose this, you know”, and then complained for half an hour about how worried she was about her cats waking her up, and having to sweep once a week because of the cat litter.

So my being stuck with horrible morning sickness is because I decided, in a hobbyist kind of way, to try having a kid, but your cats are an involuntarily assumed huge burden?

Today I am feeling better (I think) I have the day off. I’m grocery shopping, running errands, and Other Quasi-Daughter is coming over this afternoon. Oh! And I’ve borrowed the new Nigella Lawson cookbook- Nigella Express. It’s got some very good recipes in it. And I love the way she puts double cream in everything.

On the home front, Loki and Freya are adjusting to life on vacation with the dogsitter; Freya adjusting faster. Audrey The Pile of Hair is way confused by me doing the cat-tending, Booger is indifferent so far, and Ralph was on speed this morning.

Ick.

It’s chilly (13°/55F) and raining and really windy. This afternoon, by the time I leave, it’s supposed to be 7° (44F) and still raining and possibly still really windy. How ya likin’ this fall weather, LiLi? :stuck_out_tongue:

Mean time caffeination has occurred – I could do with a second dose, though. I’m almost certain the vitamins have been doing some significant magical things. It’s been a little over a week now and amazingly, I’m not nearly as tired during the day, I get up easier in the morning (in general, not that I leap forth bright-eyed from bed singing Good Morning or anything, because then I’d be psycho) and on the whole, I don’t feel too badly. Yeah, I know, the whole vitamins = good thing is one of those obvious things. I’m dense that way sometimes and it never occurred to me that I should start such a regimen, nor that such a regimen could have effects like this. If this lasts, that’ll be awesome.

McUne - You just get to feeling better. Meanwhile I’m going to treat my network cables to a liquid latex bath and seal them with cyanoacrylate. Just a precaution, you understand, nothing personal. I’ll leave some chicken soup in the clean room.

Hank - Cuuuuuuute! Oh hey, there’s a kitty in that picture. She looks like she adores you. Either that or Whoa, what’s that thing on the wall? That’s a fly! It’s a fly. Definitely a fly. I can has fly? As for your students, I think Special1 has a point. We will need pictures to see if it’s (in)appropriately attention-commanding.

rosie - Gaudere strikes agian![sup]*[/sup] Sergeant is one of those odd words that isn’t spelled like you think it should be spelled. Like subpoena.

Major Footwear - What is it with you people and your appreciation of cold weather? You people are sick! Sick! Well, except when it comes to Christmas. It’s supposed to be cold (but not too cold) with a blanket of snow, and possibly active snowfall. This should occur roughly around the 23rd of December and run through January 1st. (It can have a break between the 27th and 30th if it wants) The rest of the time winter can go bugger itself with a garden gnome.

[sub]* That actually wasn’t a deliberate typo, but I left it in to highlight Gaudere’s insidiousness. :)[/sub]

I love the weather today!

Still a little warm, though. It should be cooler than 11C.

Sounds like vwife is rapidly on the mend, bobbio. Just be glad she can stick up for herself in the horspital. Lots of folks think they just have to endure.

boofae, hope you get your snafu straightened out. Entry by hand bites!

haze what big eyes olive has!!

mork, I’m with you on the cold weather thing. I like my snow on my HD TV!

What kinda flo-ahs you gitten, swampy?

Still hot here. At least we aren’t parched like the bear.

Tupug

Ah, there’s a nip in the air today. Yay! And the maple trees around here are turning a lovely scarlet/orange.

I am off to get my car brakes looked at. I’m putting my bike in the back, so I can ride home and not be stuck in stinky car place all day (it smells of new tires and gasoline).
Haze–have the students received a syllabus with their assignments on it? If so, release your inner bitch. If you haven’t got an inner bitch–you can borrow mine.

Here goes:

Face the class. Wait for silence. Once you have their attention, tell them that they all received a copy of the semester’s syllabus. Ignore the two hands that will go up–they’re troublemakers. Ask them this (in a pissy, dead tone): Why is that a group of 20 somethings cannot recall that they have homework when they have a piece of paper that shows them when assignments are due? Make sure you are not snide when you say this–otherwise you will have the entire class with their hands up. You must be firm, civil, cool and professional. Not cute, petite and fun. (think of it as acting and you want to give an Oscar worthy performance).

Ignore the other hands that go up. Repeat to them that they are responsible for their work and that in college there is no hand holding by the instructor (do NOT say teacher). And then segue immediately into the lesson for the day. The hands will go down. If they don’t go down-tell them to bring up issues with you after class.

Lather, rinse, repeat.
I hope that works. And now my day starts.
VBob–she should not have missed breakfast at all. They can order a late tray or warm up the tray that came. That poor student–she is going to be creamed by her instructor (who, you’ll notice was not there at the bedside). Please don’t be too hard on the SN. She will get from her instructor and from the doctor. I wouldn’t be surprised if she ends up in tears. Nursing school involves a lot of hazing, emotional abuse and unneccessarily harsh discipline. Reason #47 I don’t any of my kids to become a nurse. I’m glad that VWife is doing well.
