A Perfect Sunday - An Early MMP

If you overcoddle them, they become tough and inedible <g,d,&r,vvvvvf>

Eh, I’ll soak 'em overnight.

Good luck with that. Our food service at my hospital is terrible. We would put the order in the computer, no tray would arrive, we would call, they would say it’s not in the computer, we’d say yes it is; they’d say put it in again, so we would, and an hour later, we’d get cold food.

Multiple complaints to our NM, the kitchen directly, the admin–nothing worked. I gave up. But what is terrible about it (beside going hungry) is that you can be Clara Barton and Flo Nightingale all wrapped up in one, but if a pt is unhappy with an ancillary service, the whole unit tends to be graded down in pt satisfaction surveys.

When I had pneumonia, I went to one of my sister hospitals (I work for a chain). The food service was fantastic! It was based on the room service model. As long as you called between certain hours, they sent the tray up then. Breakfast was served all day and up to 10 pm. Wonderful. Not too bad of food, either. I wish all hospitals would go to this. Only two of the 6 do this now, but perhaps someday my own hospital will. Hope so.

Also, just bring her in some food–especially some low cal snacks–it’ll help.

I’m back from errands and waiting for the primer to dry on my car scratch so I can paint it (long story). Stinky stuff.

I’ve not picked up the knack of this stuff, nicknames and personal notes to everyone, but I’m working on it.

Yesterday, still sore from walking around in the mountains with a pack and a rifle (it wasn’t “hunting”, since that implies there is some target within a 100 square miles), I grabbed a pill from the medicine cabinet. A little while later I was very sleepy and took me a little nap. Now, I never take naps. That’s just the way I am. I don’t do it right and always wake up feeling worse. So, after I awoke from the nap (about 3 hours had gone by) I notice that I was still hurting, perhaps worse than before (falling asleep upright instead of horizontal may have had something to do with this) so I took 2 pills. And fell asleep again.

Later that same evening, I noticed that the pills I was taking weren’t what I thought they were. I dosed myself to the gills on allergy medicine, and the entire day is a blur. I vaguely remember snapping at someone, and driving a couple of times. That kind of scares me. I know better than to drive after drinking, but those pills really snuck up on me.

Don’t worry about the knack–I still don’t get names right (and I mix people up in my head AND I mix up what they’re doing or their spouses etc–in fact, I am completely clueless and happy with it, Join me).

The allergy stuff–that is skeery. driving? That’s how I get with Flexeril–loopy and odd and out of it (more so than usual) and slllleeeeeeepppppyyyyyy.

Oooh. There’s an object lesson in reading labels right there. Ouch.

It’s nice to find out othe rpeople do this, too. I just had some of a huge batch of sesame peanut noodle salad for lunch. The rest will be our lunches for the next coupl of days.

Hm. Which sould I do first- wash dishes, nap, or eat chocolate pudding?

OptiBobo - it does sorta help to read the bottle before popping…
as for the personal notes - a “appropriate reactions all around” usually does the trick. We all know we all are here to support each other in whatever capacity even if we don’t post it.

I am going to have a food hangover in about an hour - they brough lunch in - an assortment of italian dishes - for a combined 20th and 25th year celebration (4 cow-orkers hit a milestone this month) and I am now staring at the cake plate (I’ve eaten the cake part and the undecorated frosting) trying to decide if I should save the icing rose or canolli filling for last…watch me bounce off the walls as I wrestle with this one

silly video SFW!

the pudding and then the nap, of course. Heavens, I thought you were intelligent!

nods, with mouth full of chocolate pudding

Are you in Pittsburgh? 'Cause there’s a Station Square there, and when I was a kid we used to drive up to Sea World in Akron from there a couple of times a summer. It was about four hours, if I remember correctly.

I’ve got a few things in mind that I may try; so far I’ve got leftover roast beef with a potato-and-bacon casserole thing set up for dishing out and some frozen chicken stew-soup (I learned that a little barley goes a long way with that one) that I’m going to thaw and portion out. I’m thinking about adding balsamic chicken with mushrooms, a nifty brownie recipe, and some slow-cooked pork to the offerings and setting aside some fresh veggies for me. I’d just like a week or two where I don’t have to cook every meal or worry that we’re spending a ton of cash on foods that aren’t very nutritious. Of course, adding some bacon to potatoes isn’t very nutritious either, but at least it’s better than a fast food cheeseburger.

Rosie, that was too cute. I loved watching The Muppet Show when I was a kid.

This is so funny I almost peed myself the first time I saw it.

Got a call from the work place today; I did very well on the “personality” test and I go in tomorrow to do background check paperwork. I’m closer to being employed!

I’m up. Don’t wanna be but I’m wide awake dangit! Oh well, perhaps I can nap a while later. GRRRRRRRR…

Snakes that’s a good sign. Background check’s are no prob unless you have had a history of being a serial killer or sump’n like that. We know that wouldn’t be true about you though. You’re smart enough to hide the bodies real good.

It’s actually kinda cool here. Only 72 degrees Amurrkin outside right now. It’s also real cloudy and kinda off and on rainy. I’m thinkin’ a supper of ham and cheese omelettes (I have some really good country ham), grits and biscuits would hit the spot. MMMMMMM… breakfast for supper!

Might as well catch up a bit since I’m awake and here.

We do this too. I’ve got a couple recipes for different types of (quasi) Asian noodles, a couple veggie-heavy soups, and a healthy “taco” lunch that I tend to rotate through. I try to make sure any of the lunches I make has at least 1 veggie serving in it so all of the above are pretty healthy. And they’re quick to reheat and eat at lunch. And they actually taste pretty good too!

Right now we’re working through some mac’n’cheese with peas, curried potato cauliflower soup, and pasta with meat sauce. And I just made the sesame peanut noodles. I try to make sure most of the things are veggie-heavy, too. And have a reasonable amount of protein.

Mr. Lissar is going to try to give up Coke again, as a budgeting move, plus drinking four cans a day probably isn’t terrific for him, no matter how much exercise he gets. I’m a little worried that he might miss the calories, since he doesn’t usually eat between noon and nine p.m. and gets three solid hours of heavy exercise. I’ve got to come up with interim late-afternoon snacks.

For someone who usually doesn’t eat bread. If I could convince him that pb&j was acceptable, I’d go with that.

Yay, SCL! They’re usually serious once they get to the background checks, since those aren’t cheap.

After talking with my therapist this morning, I’m starting an OCD group in two weeks so I can stop hoarding. Hoarding is so mortifying to admit to, but I haven’t made any progress on my own, so group it is. After shoveling my house out last year, and having an entire truckload of junk hauled away, my house is full again. :frowning: I find the thought of having to face it rather terrifying, but I’ve gotten through everything else, I can get through this.

Does he like PB? I’ve got a recipe for PB bars that involve oats and honey and I don’t remember what else. But they’re decent for you and are full of energy.

Good luck with the OCD, Jah. It’s tough to take the first step. You’ll be in my thoughts.

Glad to hear you’re attacking the hoarding head-on, Jahdra. You’ve licked so much already, you can conquer this one too.

What’s the taco lunch like, taxi? I should really pack better lunches. Mine are nutritious, but kind of boring. Peanut butter or almond butter, sometimes plain and sometimes with apple butter, prune butter, or other jam. I almost always have a rye-flaxseed bread that I really like. Carrots or red bell peppers. Fruit (currently apples). Yogurt. Sometimes I mix up the veggies (peapods instead of carrots or red peppers). Occasionally I’ll pack something zappable.

Don’t suppose Mr. Lissar would like whole-wheat pretzels? Or some nuts or trail mix?

I love that video, SCL. (The Muppet one, too…)

Hi swampy!

Hank, you are terrible!

::soak 'em::
::snerk::

On the house thing, taxi, if the difference is only $10K and you’re planning to stay there a while, I’d go with location.

Yeah, I always wonder what the point of TLDR is other than to show that you’re rude…

::Drags in tarp for rosie to use on LOUNE::

**SCL **-- congrats! I think you’re probably in, barring last minute SNAFUs ::knocks on wood, just in case::

**Haze **-- you want to soak your students overnight?

**VBob **-- looks like you’re both doing fine, other than the Hospital Food problem :frowning: Which is, in the end, annoying but not truly serious – more important that your wife is recovering nicely.

{{Jahdra}} – you’ll be in my thoughts, too.

I’m probably going to be scarce over the next 5 or 6 days – between being on Reserve Duty again (no Internet at HQ :() and the weekend. I’ll probably check in now and then, but the wimminfolk here should be safe(r) for a while. I hope you’re all missing me already!
