A post in this thread got me thinking about some sex/gender issues.

I don’t believe that most women want sex less frequently than do men, nor do I think that their reasons for wanting sex are much different from men’s, but then, perhaps I just run with a strange group of women. And so, a short survey, to satisfy my curiosity (I’ve bolded the questions so you can just hit reply to post and write your answers underneath, if you like):

What is your gender?

How many times a week/day would you prefer to have sex?

How many times a week/day DO you have sex? (No, masterbation doesn’t count.)

Do you think your motives or reasons for wanting sex are different from those of your spouse/partner? If so, how?

**And finally, are there ideal “circumstances” or certain conditions that you prefer when it comes to sex, i.e. only after I’ve had eight hours of sleep and he’s had a shower, when the kids are out of the house, when the day of the week ends in y, etc.? **
I don’t think age is relevant here, because we’re talking about a desire to have sex, not a capacity to have sex, but if you’d like to add it, go right ahead.

As much as possible. If I didn’t have housework and my husband didn’t have to work for a living…
A rough figure would be a dozen times per day or more.

At least four times a day, but more often on a good day. If the husband doesn’t tucker out after the first few times, we give it another whirl or two. Or three, if he’s fiesty.

Do you think your motives or reasons for wanting sex are different from those of your spouse/partner? If so, how?

I really, really enjoy sex, but it has to be with someone I love. He says he feels the same way… and I think he’s telling the truth. I’ve no reason to believe different. It feels good, we love each other, we do it.

I tend not to get up to the dickens if I’m suffering from the flu or something. Stuffy, runny noses aren’t much of a turn on. I do like to make sure I’ve brushed my teeth or at least had a breathmint before we get down to any business, but it doesn’t stop anything. I just mutter, “dragon breath,” and proceed without as much mouth kissing.

Ehhh… for posterity, I’m 27. I’ll be 28 this year. But I’ve always been this way… er. At least since puberty hit. (I was never promiscuous, though, not to be mixed up. I didn’t lose my virginity until I was 18, or 19, or thereabouts.)

Depends on the week/day. Sometimes I can’t get enough. Sometimes the suggestion of it makes me feel like I have yet one more thing I have to do for someone who isn’t me. Sometimes I want it desperately when I *can’t * have it, only to be indifferent when I can. But on average, I’d say that my ideal number is 5 - 7 times per week. And even if I don’t start out “in the mood”, I’m pretty easily persuaded!

We don’t live together, and we both have kids, so… sadly, 2 - 3 times per week.

Well, I need the kids to not be in the room. He pretty much agrees. Fortunately, they’re teenagers, so if we get anywhere near each other, they get grossed out and leave.

I’ve asked my doctor about this in the past. She asked if it was a problem for me, if I cheated on my partner, if I wanted/had plans to, if it interfered with my day to day life, and all the answers to that were negative. She asked if I was satisfied, and I said yes (what he doesn’t finish, I do), and she shrugged and said I had a high drive. Some people just do.

A shower within the last 24 hours, and hopefully brushed teeth, but either are negotiable. I like evenings, he likes mornings, and we both like to cuddle afterwards…although quickies can be fun, they’re not our usual thing.

In an ideal world, I wouldn’t have housework or have to trudge off to work day after day, so at least 2 times a day would be nice. That makes 14 times a week. I used to manage this easily, in college, as there was no 9-5 workday interfering.

We usually manage once a day (when not sick). And twice on the weekends. That’s about 7-9 per week.

Well, no kids in the picture so that’s moot. I prefer a shower within the last 24 hours, but like **irishgirl **it’s not an absolute deal-breaker. And also similar to irishgirl, I prefer evenings, him mornings. (This is *my *“him”, not irishgirl’s him! ;))

Hmm. Thinking about that relationship, I think one problem was that we both had the same motive; we each wanted to give the other pleasure, rather than have pleasure ourselves. So neither of us ever took the initiative, and the slightest reluctance on either part meant it didn’t happen.

One aspect I would consider important is to allow adequate time, both for the act itself and for preparation. I wouldn’t want the sort of sex that started the second I got home; I’d prefer time to take my coat off, go to the bathroom, maybe have a cup of tea, then get down on it. :slight_smile:

Lessee… once in the morning, before he goes to work… then he comes home every day at noon, he gets it then… he goes back to work and comes home to me cooking dinner naked, that’s three… after dinner has settled, we do it again, but if dinner didn’t settle well (gassy, indigestion - my husband loves his enchiladas, but they don’t always sit well!) we may wait until bedtime. If dinner didn’t give either of us any problems, we’ll do it about an hour after, and then again at bedtime.

So there’s you’re standard 4-5 times per day regularly. Sometimes it’s more, if we’re taking our after-sex shower together, and he feels like he’s got a little more left in him, or we take a nice drive somewhere, and find ourselves alone on a grassy hill watching the sunset, or we have to stop by his work after hours, and take a spin on his office desk while we’re there. That kind of thing. There’s always an opportunity, and we like to take it.

I’m a housewife, we have no kids. So when he gets home at the end of the day, the house is sparkling, dinner is made, and after that, we are free to do what we like. So, honestly, I think that’s where most of the free time comes from. :wink:

I don’t know what I’m going to do when we have kids. I’ve heard rumours that my libido may take a hit anyway.
