A post for the broken hearted

Sometimes change is what’s needed. Change what? Lots of things to choose from. Anything from hairstyles to location. I’ve noticed women change hairstyles when things aren’t going to their satisfaction. Men change vehicles. The worse the problem the bigger the change. I’m looking to make a radical change asap. (total lifestyle and location)

Its a story that has been told at least a million times before. That being the case I won’t bore you with a long tale filled with details that no one except myself would care one wit about. So here’s the short version:

Met a girl
Fell in love
Glad as I could be…
Then she broke up with me.

Essentially she decided that while she cares for me she doesn’t think she can love me. Worst part is that her pragmatism regarding relationships is one of the reasons I fell for her in the first place, so being pragmatic in breaking up with me just makes me love her that much more. God that’s screwed up.

Anyway, that was about three weeks ago. I am over the initial shock but I am still finding it difficult to deal with the heart break. My method so far consists of buying and reading a lot of books. Trying to avoid the real world strikes me as a bad idea, but so many things, sights, sounds, smells, songs, even simple everyday actions, serve to remind me of her that burying myself in warm and inviting escapism of literature is the only way to eschew constant thoughts of her.

I have never really fallen in love before so this is completely new territory for me. How are you supposed to deal with a broken heart? Obviously there isn’t really a definitive answer to this question, but what kinds of things have worked for you?

Friends.

And lots of alcohol.

How old are you? I ask because I’ve been in that boat, too. Back in my 20’s, I had a good friend that had a gorgeous girlfriend. I went out of town for aboyut a month and when I returned she called me and said that they had broken up and she needed to talk. One thing almost led to another but I told her I couldn’t really be her boyfriend because i felt like I was betraying my friend. She told me I wasn’t and she’d talk to him about ME because she wanted to be with ME. I told her not to but she did anyway. my friend was really upset, but told me he wasn’t standing in my way.

So I dated her…and fell in love, and we even started talking about getting married. Then she dumped me. Not even a clean break either, she just said “Heres your stuff, sorry, I found someone else.”

Man, I was crushed. I think I went insane for awhile. But I had a good friend of mine living with at the time, and she kept my head together. Plus I got really freakin’ drunk a lot. It took time, but eventually i got over it. You will too.
