Could someone please add me to the SDMB wave as well? User name janbednarczuk. Thx!
It’s *not *a social networking site. It’s a replacement/upgrade for email. I don’t know where the social networking site rap is coming from since it has no similarity to a social networking site at all.
Hot damn, I did. Thanks!
I think we’ve broken the snowballing point, which means that it’s going to be harder keeping track of who has an invite coming his way than to get one.

The bunch of people with “awaiting invite” at the bottom, either I’ve signed you up or I’ll PM in the next few minutes to verify that you’re still in the wishlist. LOUNE, I’m not sure what people did you send invites to, so can you please clean them?
Bad Onomatopersonwithlongname! Bad! Bad! PMs not active, so please answer here if you haven’t received an invite. Thank you!
Here is a post that I wrote for a different forum. It’s my take on what Google Wave is based on having watched the 1.5 hour presentation that was linked up thread. I am still waiting for my invitation to reach me so I haven’t played with it yet. YMMV.
Wave isn’t anything revolutionary. Pretty much everything in it is being used somewhere else but they put all of it together in one package. Gmail made email a little more efficient by combining threads of emails on one subject and between the same people into one file or conversation. A Wave is a gmail conversation with many more features.
A Wave conversation can be a group of emails or instant messages or both together. It has an interface that has features of social networking sites like Facebook and blogs like blogger, including the use of pictures and videos. You can add tags to waves like you have on VB message boards. Think about it as combining the best aspects of gmail, Yahoo! IM, Facebook, blogger and VB as a way of communicating. Any given Wave can be public, private or part public and part private. One cool feature is that long Waves can get pretty busy so someone new to a long one can replay how the Wave started and see how each part was added, in order, by the various participants.
They have games that can be played on it bit by bit or in real time and people can watch it or see it when it’s done and reply it. They used a chess game as an example.
A Wave can be a document, like in MS Word, that the participants can all generate and edit together at the same time. They can see what people are doing and comment as they are doing it or both be working on different sections at the same time. The document can, for example, be a paper for a journal or a shared group action item list.
Probably the coolest innovation is on the fly language translations. They showed a guy typing an IM in French and it was instantly translated to English as it was being typed.
Like with many things on the Internet, people are going to figure out things to do with Wave that the inventors would never have imagined. Most of it is open source so the really interesting thing will be to see what imaginative people will do once they get a hold of it.
I’d love one of these if anyone can spare an invite: lucas DOT karpiuk AT gmail DOT com
So would i, please?
Unless I can get it from Google Chrome, which I have downloaded as a browser?
Thanks
Q
Sending invites to Quasi and fubbleskag. Up to a week, etc. etc. Please poke here when you get them if you want to be added to The Big DopeWave.
Hey!! I didn’t get mine… and I asked.
frdezavalia at gmail.com
That’s my email.
I just sent you one. I have others for anyone who needs one.
I haven’t received it yet. You sent me an email?

The word “Wave” is what threw me, NAF1138.

I sent you an invitation by sending your e-mail address to Google. Apparently it takes a while.
Thanks Contrapuntal!
I missed it too, at first, Estilicon and thought it might have ended up in my trash folder, but then I went back and re-read.
Looking forward to seeing what all the excitement is about.
I was ready to tear my hair out with all the SPAM on Yahoo.
Thanks Contrapuntal!

:rolleyes::rolleyes::rolleyes:
This may make a difference, I don’t know, but if I missed the obvious (which I usually do), I have a g-mail address too. (Had to get one to publish the blog).
It’s wolkenlaufer@gmail.com.
Sorry!
Q
I have 20 invites available (is this the initial amount for everyone?)
Who is keeping a total of who has and who has not? Is post 184 up to date?
And for my interest, how do I join the dope wave?
I’d like to see what the hubbub is about, and it sounds like invites are a-plenty:
