Ah, no, so I’m not him. My typical response to reactions about my sense of humor is “I don’t intend to be funny! it’s supposed to hurt your ears! :p:D”
I think he’s basically saying the same thing, only differently…

Tell them to get out of your way because you’re pregnant; you have an attitude and you’re not afraid to use it.
One of my former coworkers is pregnant, and her due date was yesterday. They were going to induce her today but yesterday her 7-yo dislocated his elbow and he has to have surgery to put pins in today. This is after her 4-yo ate something last week that was tainted with e. coli so she’s been sick since then. Sometimes when it rains, it pours!
Well, let’s hope the third time’s the charm. **FCD ** is going to need yet another spinal surgery, probably real soon… Dr. Bob told him these issues are pretty much the result of genetics, so it’s not like he did anything to cause the stoopit bone bits to build up where they don’t belong. Apparently a conversation similar to this took place:
FCD: Get your big drill and big hammer and when you fix this, I’ll take you out sailing.
DrBob: Well, now that I’ve got motivation, I’ll do it right!
Nothing like a comedian for a surgeon, huh? Anyway, **FCD ** has to go see the other surgeon next week. Then I guess we’ll know more. I really hate that he has to go thru this again, but he can’t live with the constant pain and/or numbness.
Had to pause for cat hork. woo.
I’m tired, but not sleepy enough to crash again. I foresee a loooooooong night tonight. Three to go. Got a ring of Polish sausage cooking for supper, and in a few minutes, I need to feed the critters. Oh yeah, I live one wild life… <yawn>
Wow, that sucks FCM. I hope it can be done right this time.
We’ll be leaving in about 25 minutes for the appointment. I have a load of towels going, and my son can throw them in the dryer when they’re done.
Raining again.
Carrot cake counts as a vegetable, right? I had a small slice for dessert at lunch. It was nummy, except for that weird carrot colored frosting. Why do they do that?
The woman who is taking over this position is on vacation this week, but her stuff keeps arriving. She has 10 boxes in the cube next to me so far. It’s probably mostly office supplies. I’m amazed at how many office supplies they are allowed to accumulate here. Everyone seems to have one of everything. The one that blows my mind, though, is the absolutely ginormous scanner on my desk. It’s for 11x17 size paper, it takes up a lot of valuable desk real estate, and it’s obviously expensive. Not a soul has been by to use it since I’ve been here. I can’t imagine what it was used for. Then again, the woman here before me was interesting. :dubious: Reading her old emails was very enlightening. As near as I can tell, when she left, they said, “Don’t let the door hit you on the a$$ on your way out.”
FCM–ouch! Hope all goes well. (I wish the husband had bought a sailboat–except I dunno how to sail).
It just looks like rain outside, no wet stuff yet, but it is damned hot and humid. Ima staying indoors 'cause I’m afraid of the oak leaf gall mites. Stilly itchy, but not as bad.
I came home from errands (less than an hour) with #1 son and proceeded to fall asleep for over 2 hours. It felt great.
I cannot imagine lunch without water–I’d rather be w/o power than w/o water. Must be my astrological sign (cancer).
Maybe I’ll read some of my murder mystery or maybe I’ll eat chocolate. Life is good today.
It’s not that it was done wrong before - it’s just that there are multiple issues. This surgery would be the same as the last, only on the next lower vertebra. What’s happening is calcium is building up in the opening where the nerve bundle goes from the spinal cord down his left arm. This build-up is pressing on the nerves, affecting his use of the arm. They cleared it in the C6, and now they’ve got to do the same in the C7. I think - all of the issues are in his cervical vertebrae. The one that was apparently unneeded or just done wrong was the first surgery. I’m really sorry we didn’t see Dr. Bob in the first place - that other guy was pretty worthless in my book.
I remember how hard it was for him to recover after the last surgery, and I hate that he has to go thru that again. But this won’t get better, so either he lives with periodic numbness and tingling and loss of use of his left hand, or he gets it fixed. I’m really worried about him. This poking around the spine stuff is reall scary…
Well, I need to eat, then get a shower. I feel really grubby. Have I mentioned how much I hate working nights??
Howdy Y’all! Sketti sauce is simmerin’ away in the slow cooker. Shortly I shall start the sketti noodles. Ok, it’s angel hair pasta but I like that, so that’s sketti noodles to me. So There!
Work, well, it was. I’m tahred! I spent the day decidin’ whether pallet after pallet after pallet of Schlitz (the 16 ounce size, nuttin’ but class all the way!) was salvagable (salvageable, I’m still debatin’) or not. ICK! My inclination is to think no Schlitz beer is salvagable (oh, y’all know!) but one cannot let one’s personal opinion get in the way of one’s professional judgement, though I sometimes don’t understand why not.
LiLi jake name for the kid!
Wiles glad I could help.
BBBobbio if’n I decide to start me a harem, would you put in an app?
That’s two :ps in one post.
Taters here’s hopin’ daughter’s ailment is minor.
Everybody else, yay, boo, woohoo, awww, congrats, etc.
Time to boil pasta and get garlic bread ready.
Later Y’all!
swampy, how *do * you tell if the Schlitz is [del]salva[/del] [del]salve[/del] able to be salvaged?
FCM, I’m glad **FCD ** has a decent doc this time around. :thinks positive thoughts:
Yawn. Only 1 hour and 17 minutes until hometime.
Calgon! Take me away!
Eww, what am I saying? Dish soap tastes nasty! Guinness! Take me away!
It’s been about every bit as nutty around here as you’d expect for a place that had a mainframe go bonkers and hold 57 terabytes of data hostage.
It’s fixed, so now we’re just mopping up. That part’s fairly easy, save for everything coming in as a panic gotta-have-it-now problem. Some stuff actually was a panic, like getting wires handled before the Federal cut-off time.
I’d love to be a fly on the wall at the meeting with the mainframe manufacturer. Something about whatever happened to the built-in redundancy that should have only made a warning light blink on the console and automatically trigger a service call after some RAM in the drive controller failed…
Hopefully, he only needed to make visual inspections.
Taters, hope your kidlet is okay! and FCM, I’ll be keeping FCD in my thoughts, I hope that his spinal surgery will go well.
Yay Dotty and HRH! Glad to hear the good news about Noor!
And congrats LiLi on a boy!!
Ha, makes me miss mine, who will be 20 on 9/3 - he’s away at college in AR, though. Boo hoo!
I was up early and caffeinating but really didn’t feel very good, so took the day off. I slept most of the day, so must have needed it. It has been gloomy and cool here most of the day - very unusual for August, and we’ve had quite a bit of rain. Well, enough to make a -small- dent in the drought I hope. Back to work tomorrow.
**Jahdra **a friend and I once worked out that a slice of Black Forest Gateux provides five portions of fruit and veg. I’m sure carrot cake is much, much healthier!
Congrats Lili. And other dopers could you please not to be popularising that name too much cos its been on my list since I first read ‘Little Men’ aged about 8. Its MY kid’s name I tells ya!
I shopped at Waitrose today. The online variety. Boy is it easy to rack up the money on that site. I console myself with the fact that its mostly good food that I’m going to cook wunnerful things with. Best not shop there every week (as tempting as it is).
Ok, so I hate scented candles. I really do–they all stink to me, instead of smell nice.
I bought (on impulse) the “fresh laundry” candle from Target. It smells really nice! It’s not too perfumey–and it does smell like fresh laundry. I love the smell of fresh laundry (but hate doing laundry). I may never do laundry again, just light the candle.
In less than 12 hours, I’ll be at work. That’s depressing.
One more day and then school starts for the kids. Hallelujah!
All this talk of pasta has helped me decide: spaghetti for dinner. Yay! (Sauce is defrosting as I type.)
Congrats LiLi! We all look forward to meeting Nathaniel Elijah. But we can still call him tinyninjachef for a while, right? Of course you have to converse with him even before he’s born. I’m sure Mr. Lissar will fill him in on his side of the story soon enough.
It’s salvageable. I found it on the internet.
Hope everyone who’s under the weather gets better quickly.
Off to finish putting dinner together.
GT
Gee, in 12 hours I’ll be just about getting off work. That’s even more depressing.
Have I mentioned that I hate working nights???
ugh
Huh. My aunt does trust me, I get to go in early tomorrow again and open up since she’s going to be running late. I went in this morning on my awful knee and got sent home to rest it. So I have. It’s been enjoyable, aside from the awful knee issue and knowing I’m not getting paid for today. I need to get a knee doc lined up so I can get another cortizone shot, I guess. I should have earlier but I went back to bed instead!
I’ve been hearing a lot of planes and helicopters and whatnot today, and there are tons of fire people in town, from as far (maybe farther, though I haven’t seen any) away as Big Sky, Montana. Those who need to are taking this fire more than seriously enough, I think, and I find it highly reassuring. The smoke is still unpleasant, but as long as I keep my doors and windows shut, I’m fine inside.
{{{{{picu}}}}}
That’s a good strong name, Li-Li, and it’s open to lots of nick-ing “Nat, Nate”, etc. (and believe it or not, a college acquaintance of that name insisted we call him Thannie) or he could go by his middle name for a while when he’s in his rebellious phase.
It’s rainy awful today, and cold. I don’t think it hit 60. Yet, by Saturday, it’s supposed to be back into the 90s. WTF!!!
Yummm. I make good sketti sauce. And yes, I vacuumed it that quickly.
Glad you’re getting pulled into the business, snowbunny. And glad you’re still safe.
Gotta agree on the scented candle thing, rigs. Guess I should go smell the clean laundry ones, huh?
Good to hear the computer catastrophe is getting cleaned up, gotti.
Well…need to take some videos back to the library. Hugs to everyone I’ve missed.
